Mythology 101: The Imaginary War On Women”

All we hear nowadays from the Left is that Republicans are waging a war on women; the logical fallacy of the premise escapes most of them (and those driving this meme merely smile behind closed doors): really, would even the Stupid Party really decide to wage a war on 51% of the US population?  Well, … Read more

GraniteGrok Endorsement – NH State Senate District 4: Phyllis Woods

Phyllis WoodsSometimes you like the stances that  politician has.  Sometimes, you may not like the stances but like the person.  In this case, I am happy to say that I get to do both!  I’ve known Phyllis Woods (running for NH State Senate in District 4) for a number of years now (since becoming politically active) and have found her to be a nice, thoughtful, caring lady with a spine of steel when it comes to standing tall.  Over the last few years, she has worked on to recruit other Conservative ladies to run for office, encouraging with help on issues, campaigns, and other details necessary to be successful.  She has been a constant face at Conservative events for years, lending her reputation, her presence, and (again) her encouragement to “the grassroots” in the Liberty & Freedom area as well. She is one of the hardest working folks I know – and she has been a mentor to me, at times, as well – always having a willing ear at the ready. She also has been a tireless worker within the Republican Party, having recently served as the RNC Committeewoman from NH (and helping to maintain NH’s stance as the First in the Nation Primary).

I can’t think of much in the way of issues in which the ‘Grok and she part ways (yes, there are always the little things, but in the grand scheme?).  Thus, it is easy for us to say:

We fully endorse Phyllis for NH State Senate and ask for your vote for her.

GraniteGrok Endorsement – NH State Senate District 5: Cynthia Coolidge Howard

It is now time to start listing the candidates for NH State Senate that will get the nod from GraniteGrok in this election season.   As with all of the previous candidates, we expect them to  be Conservative and supportive of policies that stress and enhance the sense of and pursuit of Individual liberty & Freedom (something that absolutely drives both Establishment Republicans and Democrat Socialists nuts – but for different reasons (mostly)).  We want them to stand tall and standfast – don’t speak words now and then fade like the Red Sox when the action (and criticism) gets hot and heavy.  Face it – a lot of flack was thrown at the just past session and not just from the Progressives Regressives and the media in their pocket; they sorely disappointed a lot of the grassroots, like us, that expected FAR more from them than the Bragdon-Bradley led SUPERMAJORITY Republicans in the Senate.

Cynthia Coolidge Howard for NH State Senate District 5In no particular order, we begin then, with District 5 with Cynthia Coolidge Howard.  Most of our recommendations start with me – this time, it came from some of the other Groksters (and they were adamant about it, too!).    She has a history as a tax fighter and understands why local taxes are so high.  A bona fide member of the TEA Party movement, she understands and supports the three main philosophical points of it:

  • Free Markets
  • Taxed Enough Already – a more frugal, careful Government at all levels
  • Adherence to Constitutional principles

All this adds up to Democrats decrying “EXTREMIST!”.  Well, in that case, we’re with her.  She understands that we are adults, can make adults decisions, and that (unlike Democrats who wish to treat us all as wards of the State that), self-responsibility and self-reliance are the pillars of a successful Society (and that Government has encroached to much into general Society).  From her website:

“I am the founder of Claremont Citizens for Lower Taxes, a Tea Party group. I have fought for several years against high property taxes and wasteful spending locally, statewide, and nationally. I served one term on the Claremont School board where I fought against the Stevens Renovation Project addition (a cost of $22.9 million dollars). I have proposed spending cap initiatives to alleviate the local tax burden.

I have organized tea party events locally and statewide, and have spoken at many events as well as at the annual Coalition of NH Taxpayer’s picnic.”

Works for us!

We fully endorse Cynthia for NH State Senate and ask for your vote for her.

GraniteGrok Endorsement – NH State Senate District 9: Andy Sanborn

Andy and Laurie Sanborn for NH Senate and NH HouseHappy Warrior time!  We endorsed Andy Sanborn for NH State Senate District 8 last cycle and continuing to support one of our favoritist State Senators, we are doing it again.  As always, we don’t ALWAYS see eye to eye on all of his votes (and yes, he does gets that hang dog look when he sees me walking toward him loaded for bear) but I do have to say, he genially takes what we Groksters dish out.  That said, Andy has been one of the folks that we most agree with most often in the Senate.  His old district, 8, having basically written out from underneath him, he is once again doing the hard work in District 9 (and made me smile in doing it).

Please note that Grokster Steve had personally endorsed Andy a while ago.  All in all, we believe that Andy is a FAR better candidate, and better suited to represent his constituents, than his opponent.

We fully endorse Andy for NH State Senate and ask for your vote for him.

We had done an interview series with Andy back in July – we revisit this after the jump.

GraniteGrok Endorsement – NH Executive Council: Jerry Thibodeau

We now switch our attention, and our endorsements, back from the US Congress to NH based races.  Specifically, the New Hampshire Executive Council is now our focus and our first endorsement is for Jerry Thibodeau in District 1 where the aged Ray Burton has been the incumbent since, well, dirt was made – with similar political practices.  The operative question is asked by Jim Pindell:

Might Ray Burton lose his primary?

The answer is that he should!

NH born and bred, Jerry is well respected and long time Republican and former Manchester Republican Chair.  I have talked with him at length and was impressed with his background of going from little to a very successful entrepreneur of a multi-million dollar business.  He knows what it takes from a negotiating side, knows how to read contracts, and knows how to ferret out the details that would otherwise “lopside” a deal against the State.  Having been one that has spent his own money on building his business and signing the front of paychecks, he’ll be watching out for our money as closely as he has his own (instead of doing “favors” and voting to increase the size of government) as he scrutinized the cost of every contract.  Based on his philosophical stances, I certainly would be assured that when it came to appointments for either bureacrats, Commissioners, or judges.

Please note that Grokster Rick gave Jerry his personal endorsement a little bit ago.  The Republican Liberty Caucus of NH also has endorsed him.  Karen Testerman has also endorsed Jerry.

Best of all, he will bring a fresh perspective that has been sorely lacking for a long, long time.  Change for the sake of change is never good – change IS good, however, when it is for a purpose, and that is what Jerry brings to the table.  And never, ever, would Jerry be endorsing Democrats for races like Ray Burton has in which there are Republicans running.

We fully endorse Jerry for Executive Council and ask for your vote for him.

Well, TWO of the NH RNC Delegation are enjoying themselves

NH Delegation At RNC listening to Artur Davis…problem is, there were four of them in the shot!  Steve showed one shot of the speaker: Artur Davis (for former Democrat Alabama  Congressman) was addressing the assembled crowd.  I watched it, and was rather suprised:

  • NH State Rep Paul Mirski (with the bow-tie) is enjoying himself
  • RNC Committeewoman Phyllis (who is running for the NH State Senate!) is as well
  • Doug Scammon (behind Paul, former NH House Speaker) – not so much it seems
  • Wayne McDonald (behind Phyllis, seems a wee bit hunched over to be in a “enjoying himself” moment) to me

In listening to Artur Davis, I had this as the best part of his speech:

“And what do you say about a House that doesn’t honor the pictures on its walls?  John Kennedy asked us what we could do for America.  This Democratic Party asks ‘What can Government give you?’  Don’t worry about paying the bills on your kids and grandkids.”

Good point – all that debt:

GraniteGrok Endorsement: Dennis Lamare for US Congress

Like Rick Parent, Dennis Lamare ran in the last cycle for US Congress.  Like Rick, he decided to run for US Congress again, this time in New Hampshire’s Second Congressional District against Progressive Republican, Charlie Bass.  Like Rick, he is MUCH improved with regards to the issues, where his foundational principles come from, where he … Read more

GraniteGrok Endorsement: Rick Parent for US Congress

We had endorsed Ovide Lamontagne in the Republican Primary for NH Governor early in this election cycle; it is now time to roll out additional endorsements. We reviewed a number of races, talked with a number of candidates, reviewed objective ratings done by groups that mirror the ‘Grok philosophically (e.g., Republican Liberty Caucus of New Hampshire, NH House Republican Alliance, and HRA, New Hampshire Liberty Alliance), and then talked / voted amongst ourselves.  Now, we are asking for your votes for them.

Rick Parent for US Congress (NH CD1)This cycle, we are endorsing Rick Parent to be the next US Congressman representing New Hampshire in the First Congressional District.

We first met Rick last cycle as he ran then as well – a nice guy but not sure of the process, what he had to do to be successful, how to articulate his positions, and the best ways to get his message out.  We liked him as a person but really didn’t feel that it was his time – while his heart and his intent was there, he was not ready.

This time, he is better situated – and we believe that he is much improved!  He has always been a Patriot – as Chief Engineer on a cargo ship that supplies our troops in the Middle East, he is a down to earth guy that knows the value of hard work and showing up.  A plus for me – I wish MORE Engineers would run instead of just politicians looking for the next rung up the political ladder – he has spent years learning his craft in the private sector.  I “get” his campaign tagline: “Engineering the future, one step at a time” – Go back to fundamental principles, consider the problem in the light of those principles, break the problem down to more manageable pieces, make sure those pieces will work individually and as a whole knowing that a SYSTEM is better than a point solution, and then roll it out incrementally instead wholesale changes.  While politics is much less deterministic than engineering software, electronics, or hardware, the point of considering the whole and how even the smallest legislative  changes can impact Society is a skill that many (if not most) politicians never learn.  It is never good to start a runaway train…

Rick knows from personal experience what it is to get his hands dirty and keep things running – his is the responsibility to ensure that both the lives of his shipmates are safe and that our Armed Services get the supplies to keep them safe.  He has spent his time in the Gulf better learning the issues and how to explain his stances based on the Constitution as “his system”.  Oh yes, big time on the Constitution – and we believe that will not change just because the election is over.  He understands that the Constitution is not just legal foundation but now IS our lifeboat.

We did an interview series with Rick Parent – links after the jump.  Oh, and for those that remember that we endorsed someone else last time…

So, will the NH Democrat Party condemn their supporters vandalism and their calling others “FAGS”?

This just in from the Secretary of the Pemi-Baker Republicans – more H8 from Democrat (the Party of Total Totalitariansm Tolerance) supporters:

On 8/26/2012 12:48 PM, Secretary PBVRC wrote:

This morning I sent  this statement to the Record Enterprise

SUBJECT:    Republican Office Vandalized

STATEMENT from Ralph Larson, Chairman, Pemi-Baker Valley Republican Committee:

Some time during the black of night, on August 24th, our office sign at 47 Main St. Plymouth, was for the 4th time in recent years vandalized. Our signs have been handcrafted and donated by our members. The first 2 times the sign was stolen and recovered once. The replacement sign suffered minor damage after a major blow and now the immature element that exists in Plymouth has spray painted it with the word “FAGS’. Well guess what, we are not going to replace or repair the sign, as of now, but will leave it as is a visible reminder to those entering down town Plymouth from the South, of this probably minimal, but immature element of Plymouth’s population. The incident has been reported to Plymouth PD and if you have any information regarding it please report it to them at 536-1804.

Probably not an issue for NH Democrat Chair Ray “Hitler should have bombed it” Buckley at all.

GrokTV Special Interview: Sue DeLemus

I have known Sue for a few years now as a TEA Party / Rochester 9-12 Project member – and an utterly devoted person to her Bible, the US and NH Constitutions, and her guns (and her hubby, Jerry).  I guess that the Obama Administration and the NH Democrat Party would call her a bitter, clinger, extremist.  Me?  A Patriot!

A first time NH House Legislator this session (R-Rochester, Strafford 1), the ‘Grok caught up with her at last night’s Rochester City Council meeting (concerning Public Input on The Granite State Future Plan that is supporting the Obama Administration’s Sustainable Communities Initiative (spearheaded by the money carrots to change local zoning ordinance to suit the EPA, DOT, and EPA; listen to Grokster Tom as he speaks here).

I asked some questions of her – listen up!

She also testified in front of the Rochester City Council on both the Granite State Future Plan as well as the decision by the Rochester City Council to spend $9,400 to help underwrite the 2012 Presidential Campaign of Obama (after the jump):

GrokTV Event: Belknap County Republican Committee “Contested Primaries” – NH House, District 9, Write In, Open Mic

At the end of the evening, there was one more person speaking in their own defense for their candidacy in a NH House race, and that was Harry Accornero in District 9.  He spoke alone as his opponent, Glen Dewhirst, was a no show for the evening.   Then, Dr. Chuck Fink was introduced as a write in candidated. Finally, a number of folks were allowed to speak to introduce themselves to the room’s activists even though they are not worrying about the primary – they go right to the general election.  At the end, Alan just opened up the rest of the evening as an Open Mic session.

GrokTV Event: Belknap County Republican Committee “Contested Primaries” – NH House, District 8

The last of the contested primaries here in NH’s Belknap County is that in NH House District 8: Jane Cormier and Peter Bolster.

Jane is a Conservative firebrand and is working hard to learn what is needed and working hard on her campaign.  Our interview series with Jane ended here (see the Previous videos on the post for the earlier questions).  She would be a breath of fresh air compared to her opponent.

Speaking of which, Peter Bolster, IMHO, is a Democrat registered as a Republican (and has publicly said as much in the past).  We have written extensively on his dismal record as a republican in the NH House votes

(here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here);

it is sad (and maddening) that there are Democrats that are more in line with the Republican Platform than he is.  In fact, I had a question to ask at the meeting and I followed the protocol of the meeting and wrote down my question and submitted it (after the jump).

Independent” voter in the House?  really? I will admit, he’s got chutzpah – he can’t possibly run using “Independent” in persuading most Republicans in the know concerning his actual record (which he did not go into).  Read that again, look at some of the links, and it is easily seen that he has earned his title: RINO.  What else do you call a Republican that consistently votes against the Republican Platform…..oh wait -> Democrat!

GrokTV: Conservative Republican Candidate Home Event: Kevin Leando

“Last but not least, MY favorite House candidate, Kevin Leandro from Gilford” – Barbara Aichinger.  Mine too!

I served with him this last year on the Gilford Budget Committe – he was ALWAYS thinking of the taxpayers!  No, not in “where’s their wallets” but in protecting taxpayer’s private property (their money) from those that had no problem in spending it all in the name of “It’s for the common good” or “It’s for the Quality of Life”.  He showed me an absolute bulldog sense of taking on anyone that he perceived as being in the wrong or spending for the wrong reasons.  No, he didn’t always win all of the battles, but like the Prior Marine he is, it was always find the target and move forward!

I can guarantee that he will make his presence known on the floor of the Hall of Representatives – as opposed to the other Gilford candidate (registered Independent and almost always seemingly put his finger to the wind to see which way the political winds were blowing).  Principles set, locked and loaded, you will never doubt where he will stand and never doubt his Conservative values.  My personal friend, Kevin Leandro:

GrokTV: Conservative Republican Candidate Home Event – Herb Vadney

Last of the three Candidates from Meredith speaking at Barbara Aichinger’s home (and the only non-incumbent of the three) was Herb Vadney.  Although he has never been in the NH House, he has been a long time Selectman in Meredith and like the others, believes that while this past session has been a good start to undo the Democrats growing State government  into Concord, growing the size of the budget, and growing the resulting Command and Control Leviathan; a return to Live Free or Die vs a Live under Govt and Wither:

GrokTV: Conservative Republican Candidate Home Event – Bob Greemore

GrokTV Event: Belknap County Republican Committee “Contested Primaries” – NH State Senate District 7

In Belknap County, there is a second NH State Senate race – that in District 7.  Here, Josh Youseff and Bill Grimm are vying to be the Republican nominee to take on the Democrat contender.  In my estimation, there is a certain divide between the two – Josh is more the Liberty & Freedom guy (and the last of our interview series with him is here; follow it backwards) while Grimm is more the Establishment guy.  Also, as you listen to the video, it is plain that Grimm is not exactly “heads on and out front” on his answers; too much equivocation for me.  And his unwillingness to commit to The Pledge is similar to one of the Democrats, Jackie Cilley (while less than that of Bill Kennedy who is opening arguing for a broadbased income tax here in NH).

No, that is not Josh in the video; instead, a surrogate stood in for him.
