Deficit – What Deficit?

The party that is bringing civility ( see here, here, here, here, here, here (sigh) here, here, a big one right here,…) ran on the idea that the New Hampshire Republican House and Senate was leaving New Hampshire with a deficit, a presumption only “slightly” less dishonest than the notion that Democrats are civil, or half as dishonest as the idea that democrat Carol-Shea-Porter even knows the gun laws in her own state. Turns out, as usual, they were wrong.

“At this point, if spending levels come in as predicted, the state could end the budget cycle (the result of the budget passed two years ago) with a $43 million balance…”

Now to be fair, 63% of this projected Republican Surplus is from a lawsuit windfall, the rest is just taxes being caught up etc, but either way the Republicans leave the new budget writers without the need to pay for 800 million in fixed spending for which there was no revenue, with something extra for the rainy day fund.

Great, Just What We Need, More Anti-Republican Crap

When I first announced the return of GrokTALK! a few weeks ago, in pursuit of likely guests, the very first response I got on my status update from a Republican Facebook page was, “Great, just what we need, more anti-Republican crap.”

In some respects yes, but not because the objects of our remarks happen to “claim” to be Republicans.  It would be a result of their behaving as something other than a Republican.  (And yes, I probably am a better arbiter of who is or is not behaving like a Republican, as we shall see shortly.)

And while we (I will include all of us on the Grok) are more than willing to accept the 80-20 rule in a general sense, there are specific issues and some votes that are just too important to let slide.

And when Party leadership itself does stupid things, yes–we will be all over that, as any regular reader already knows.

SB-11 Everyone Votes Yea So Far…But Should We Say Nay?

A reader brought this to my attention.  SB-11.  It would allow for enhanced water districts via neighboring towns or municipalities to form intermunicipal water or sewer districts above and beyond (in addition to) existing ones, for the purpose of shared interests with regard to these utility services.

A few problems that come to my attention immediately.   First, there is a new “regional” board or commission for every association of towns or cities who cooperate under this bill to address projects of regional interest; another board spending money should be viewed with suspicion.  Second, they will be able to bond debt; another board with the power to create debt should be viewed with suspicion.  Third, it is not clear whether people who do not use water or sewer might still be on the hook for assessments or fees collected to fund this new level of municipal government.

Are NH Democrats just Making Stuff Up about Background Checks?

There are more lies about background checks coming from the New Hampshire Democrat Party than truths and no polling can possibly explain the disparity unless the polls are flawed, skewed, or just made up.

Ninety percent of New Hampshire citizens cannot possibly be in favor of  Manchin Toomey background checks when less than 90% of all Democrats are willing to push the meme themselves.  And given that 100% of Democrats don’t agree with the narrative this makes the math required to justify the number impossible.

There is No Ball

Do New Hampshire Democrats have their priorities straight?  Think about it.  The economy is creeping along.  No one is projecting even moderate growth.  Employment is likely to remain flat which means unemployment is as well.   All in all, the best we can hope for, according to all the ‘experts’ is to drift along for a while.  So what are New Hampshire Democrats doing?

In one of the safest states in the nation, with some of the most–dare I say liberal–gun laws in the country, they are investing their energy on harassing a Republican Senator (Kelly Ayotte) who doesn’t even have to run for office until 2016, over a vote that wouldn’t even do much if any good to solve the problem they claim it is meant to resolve; while at the exact same time,  asking New Hampshire taxpayers to let them grow the size and cost of government as much as 10%.

Economy sucks, maybe 2% growth if we’re lucky over the next few years–New Hampshire Democrats want to give the government a permanent 9-10% raise.

Talk about not keeping your eye on the ball.

Wait.  This is supposed to be like the Matrix, right.  There is no ball.  Look- Ayotte!

So Every New Hampshire Democrat Will Be Running on Background Checks in 2014?

The New Hampshire Democrat party is all-in on their background-check thing.  They’ve got out of state money, out of state influence, out of state victims as props… So I guess this is pretty important to New Hampshire Democrats then?  And to hear them talk, it is mighty important to New Hampshire citizens as well.  Or is that just talk?

Can we expect every Democrat in the state at every level run for reelection on this issue?  Will every New Hampshire Democrat running for office  in 2014 put background checks at the top of every palm cards, flyer, mailer, and campaign web-site?

If New Hampshire citizens are behind this idea to the degree that New Hampshire Democrats claim, (just ask them, ‘everyone is talking about it’), then you’ll be running strongly on this issue, in all 400 house races, and all 24 state Senate races, the Governors race, plus the US Senate and Congressional races?

Did NH Democrats Encourage Erica Lafferty to Crash Kelly Ayotte’s NH Town Hall?

Who in the New Hampshire Democrat party reached out to Erica Lafferty–the daughter of slain Sandy Hook Elementary School principal Dawn Hochsprung–to encourage her to leave her own state, which has all kinds of background checks for gun purchases that did no good at all, to come to New Hampshire and lean on our State Senator?

Talk about out of state influence.

With all due respect and deepest condolences to Ms. Lafferty for her loss, you are being played.  All you did was reduce your very real tragedy to a tragic comedy by coming to my state to intimidate my Senator for not voting to pass a bill that would not have done one damn thing to prevent what happened to your mother.  Or didn’t the Democrats, or the magazine editors, or the folks on the Today show, or whomever they’ve had you with or in front of tell you that yet?
