NH Senate Votes 19-5 to Table HB 135

The NH Senate has tabled HB 135, the Deputy Dawg Shurtleff House passed bill that would have repealed stand your ground in New Hampshire and replaced it with Run Away or else go to court and have them tell you a year later…yeah, you should have run away. Bad bill. Tabling is not death, however. … Read more

Say Hello to the Happy Train

Rick reported the news yesterday of the likely demise of HB 135 (2013)– Deputy Dawg Stephen Shurtleff’s  repeal of stand your ground for me but not for he. Most of us had an inkling of this last week, and I’m not about to go on about that or the bill’s demise because Rick has more to add (or just … Read more

House Bill 135 Is All But Dead

Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws. —Plato

SYGLawGraphicSenator Sharon Carson (R) Dist. 14, Chair, Senate Judiciary (Londonderry), sent me a message yesterday afternoon that the Senate Judiciary Committee voted 4-1 on HB 135 to recommend, “Inexpedient to Legislate…”  legislative speak meaning the committee recommends the subject bill be killed and not pass on in the process.

HB 135: State v. Craig Moses

“In a state where corruption abounds, laws must be very numerous.” Tacitus

Fingers_In_EarsLiberals love to ignore inconvenient facts. Stick fingers in ears, close eyes and yell, “La-la-la-la-la!” Franklin resident Craig Moses was acquitted under the Granite State’s “Stand Your Ground” law.  Moses was arrested nearly a year ago in Nashua outside a nighclub and charged with criminal threatening with a deadly weapon after he and his cousin were severely beaten.

“Citizens With Guns:” Better Trained Than Police? Really?

“Don’t tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results.”   George S. Patton

Pistol_ClassI was at the State Senate hearing yesterday on HB 135. I heard a great deal of testimony. Senator Carson asked people not to read their testimony, Zandra Rice-Hawkins, boringly read hers. Other such liberals gave us the same old boring crap.

Alton’s Police Chief Ryan Heath, speaking in favor of passage of HB 135, told the committee that the average person simply isn’t trained to make these on-the-spot decisions regarding use of deadly force. He asserted that Police have training in the handling of firearms, use of force and it is part of their jobs.  And Chief Heath is correct. there is nothing incorrect about his statement. In fact, I had become so used to hearing it.

Something happened at that very moment. I received a text message question from an individual organizing a “training”

HB 135 Deputy Dawg Shurtleff ‘Stand Your Ground Repeal’ – NH State Senate Hearing is Tomorrow

New Hampshire: Shurtleff Criminal Protection Bill Scheduled for Senate Committee Hearing in Concord on Tuesday

On Tuesday, April 23, the Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to hear House Bill 135. Introduced by state Representative Stephen Shurtleff (D- Merrimack 11), HB 135 will render law-abiding citizens defenseless victims by removing consequences for criminal activity. The New Hampshire House of Representatives already undermined your inherent right to self-defense by passing the Shurtleff Criminal Protection Bill by a 189-184 vote on March 27.

HB 135 would repeal important self-defense provisions enacted in 2011, making the following changes to New Hampshire’s current self-defense laws:

Life Imitates Democrat legislation

I was just reading Scott’s post about the chickens of modern day feminism coming home to roost and it occurred to me;  the video of the young man that dodged the ball that then modified the face of  his date is a perfect example of how the left wants us all to behave.

I’ll call this “Life imitates Democrat legislation.”  Do tell?

A Majority of New Hampshire House Democrats and (three Republicans), just voted to ensconce into state statute the very thing that this young man just did by voting to repeal stand your ground.  If you can retreat…do so. He did. She took it right in the face.

The progressives don’t want you to take responsibility.  They do not want you to exercise your judgment.  You are not allowed to think.  Run away!  Someone from the government will get there just as soon as they can.

Shurtleff Defends Stand Your Ground Repeal In The Union Leader

Last Monday, Steve Shurtleff wrote an op-ed in advocacy for his bill to repeal stand your ground. He tells several lies, makes completely inaccurate statements and could not cite one case where the law was used by a criminal to avoid prosecution.  Shurtleff writes,

“For more than three decades, New Hampshire law permitted the use of deadly force in

NH House Vote To Repeal Stand Your Ground (HB 135) is Today

Oh_No_Guns_White

Update [-Skip]:  The NH House just voted to pass HB135 which means that you must flee from danger instead of asserting your Right to Self-Defense.  From the House Republican Alliance:

“We are saddened but not surprised by the passage of HB135, which removes a person’s right to defend oneself. The passage of this politically motivated bill strips away the rights of citizens to stand their ground and protect themselves, others and their property if threatened where ever they have a right to be,” stated Representative Al Baldasaro, HRA co-chair. “Every citizen has a constitutional right to defend themselves and this blatant attempt at political correctness is a disservice to our constituents.”

We’ve pretty much chopped down a digital forest discussing HB 135, the effort to solve a non-problem in pursuit of an ideological fear-campaign with no evidence to support it.  So much so that I can’t begin to find all of the articles and posts.  But here is a “short” list of content we’ve put out in the last two months on the bill, the idea, and the moonbat behind it all.  If you feel the need to find more just search HB135 (without a space between HB and 135), or search ‘Shurtleff’ or ‘Stephen Shurtleff,’ or even ‘Deputy Dawg.’

Petition to Oppose HB 135

A petition was set up at the website, “SignOn.org” a website variant of MoveOn.org. The lefties originally began a petition to support HB 135, and at the same time another petition was started to oppose HB 135. HB 135 is the bill seeking to eliminate “stand your ground.”  Now that the petition started to outpace … Read more

Support ‘Stand Your Ground’ In New Hampshire [Updated]

[Updated] For those who are not interested in using the original petition site reported below (SignOn.org), I have created a separate petition on a different site.  I used the exact same language as the original.

New Hampshire Democrats have been doing their best to roll back, repeal, or undo anything and everything the last (Republican) legislature did.  The most recent effort is to repeal stand your ground (HB 135).  Stand your ground gives law abiding citizens the right to defend themselves, their friends, family, even total strangers, from a violent assault anywhere they have a right to be.

Democrats would rather you retreat “if you can,” presuming you have that option, are not responsible for the safety of your husband, wife, kids, friends, or a group of children, not all of whom may be able to retreat with you.

House Bill 135: Hypocrisy Abounds

Bringing Civility to Concord….uh…..Not?

Democrats claimed they would bring civility to Concord but as Rick Olsen observed here, at the hearing for HB 135, the Democrat committee chair yelled at the people who had come to the hearing–because they applauded when they liked what they heard. “…We are forced to sit here and suffer through this…I am not going … Read more

House Bill 135 today in Concord. Ann M. Rice is the Deputy Attorney General for the State of New Hampshire. So here we are…citizens jam-pack

Scared Shurtleff Tees Us Up Tomorrow
