Support ‘Stand Your Ground’ In New Hampshire [Updated]

by
Steve MacDonald

[Updated] For those who are not interested in using the original petition site reported below (SignOn.org), I have created a separate petition on a different site.  I used the exact same language as the original.

New Hampshire Democrats have been doing their best to roll back, repeal, or undo anything and everything the last (Republican) legislature did.  The most recent effort is to repeal stand your ground (HB 135).  Stand your ground gives law abiding citizens the right to defend themselves, their friends, family, even total strangers, from a violent assault anywhere they have a right to be.

Democrats would rather you retreat “if you can,” presuming you have that option, are not responsible for the safety of your husband, wife, kids, friends, or a group of children, not all of whom may be able to retreat with you.

As Grokster Rick pointed out the other night.  Repealing stand your ground creates an impossible scenario guaranteed to end with you needing a small fortune to defend your actions in court because “the option to retreat” will always be subjective. Having been denied the basic human right to protect your person from attack will inevitably end in your having to defend yourself in court at great time and expense.

This (HB 135) is nothing more than a “Further enrichment of the Lawyers.”

We encourage everyone to contact your NH State House and State Senate reps, as well as Governor Hassan–who will sign any variation of this bill should it reach her desk–but you can also show your support by signing a petition that has been started at SignOn.org.  lf you could please take a moment to sign the petitition, we’d appreciate it.

Thank you.

Note: Neither I nor GraniteGrok started the SignOn petition.  The anti gun left already has a repeal petition on the same petition site with more signatures.   The goal is to demonstrate that there is more support for keeping the law as is than changing it. [update- as noted above, I started a second petition on a different site for those who object to using SignOn.org]
