Opportunism Knocks

“Criminals obey “gun control” laws in the same manner politicians follow their oaths of office.” – Anonymous

As we ramp up for the onset of the Political season, there are no shortage of the endless examples of those seeking public office working feverishly to define themselves to curry votes with core constituencies. This aspect is never more stark than with gun groups, a favorite target of Republicans and conservatives.

As I roll through my Facebook account, politicians trolling for favor are never more obvious anywhere than to Gun people. Those of us in the Second Amendment Advocacy column truly appreciate the positions taken. We can remain confident that those running for office are on our side. And we do appreciate it.

Crime victims: To shoot or not to shoot?

This from today’s Union Leader: “MANCHESTER — A 76-year-old Korean War veteran was mugged Monday morning in a city alley, losing his wallet to an assailant who ripped it, literally, from his pants.” With the article is a picture of the victim, Chuck Wiggin, with a bandage on the side of his head. But the old … Read more

Why America needs “a gun in every pocket”…

…and why the anti-Second Amendment and anti-self defense movements in places like New York, Chicago, and California (with their draconian anti-gun laws) need to get used to it.

How to react to a terrorist or other criminal when you have no gun.

A few days ago The Wall Street Journal published a column by Con Coughlin, entitled “Mohamed Merah and the New Breed of ‘Nike Terrorists’.” Mohamed Merah is the radical Islamist who murdered three French soldiers and four Jewish civilians in France last month. The article explained that Merah is part of a developing “new breed” of Islamic terrorists who will act alone or in small groups with “homemade bombs, knives and guns.”

Think it won’t happen?

An Airsoft Gun-Free Zone?

“Don’t carry a gun. It’s nice to have them close by, but don’t carry them. You might get arrested.” —John Gotti

An Airsoft gun can be dangerous. Dangerous because if one gets hit in the eye with one of those plastic BB’s, an eye could be lost. Like the old saying goes, “It’s all fun and games until somebody puts an eye out.” So here is this kid…He brings an Airsoft Pistol to school. Clearly, a very poor choice. But, let’s face it. If the kid brought a large chunk of soap to school, fashioned in the shape of a gun the school response would be the same.  Perhaps the word, “GUN” milled from steel in a CNC machine and then hot-blued… If you can admire “publik edjukayshen” for anything, they are to be lauded for their sheer ability to be consistent in this one single area.

The Anti-Self Defense Cadre Strikes Again in Strafford County

“Some laws of state aimed at curbing crime are even more criminal.”  —Friedrich Engels

Joseph Hebert is a criminal. He has a considerable arrest record for everything from assault and drug possession to burglary. Clearly, he is a miscreant.  This Saturday Hebert’s personal illegal fortune-seeking ran aground. He was caught taking other people’s stuff without their permission. We, common folks call this, “Stealing.”

NRA – a very timid step, but are they finally getting the big picture??

NRA grassroots email alertsAs an former NRA member, I still get their NRA-ILA alerts and I am always figuring that this is the indication of what they are thinking concerning the “big” picture.  After all, a couple of years now when the Dems were pushing the DISCLOSE act that would have restricted Free Speech, the NRA was silent.  Absolutely silent – and that in and of itself created a fire storm from both conservative grassroots and from their own membership akin to “Are you guys flippin’ morons??  You CANNOT just concentrate on protecting just the Second Amendment (the right to bear arms) if they take away your First!”

The NRA kept saying that they were a one issue group (as if that was a sufficient), so that’s why they wouldn’t be speaking out on that issue.  Period – and in my mind, given what they could have brought to bear, a cop-out of the first degree.  That is also why I am an ex-NRA member, because unless you are willing to protect it all, you will lose your one issue.  A particular section of a wall cannot stand on its own and be effective if the rest of the wall has been knocked down by incoming enemy fire – and make no mistake, the entire founding philosophy of the Constitution is under heavy attack from Progressives. Yes, concentrate on your single issue, but there are times we all have to be voluntarily interlocked to protect the freedoms that are trying to be wrenched from us under the guise of the Marxist “greater good” collective group-think.  This is, again, one of those times.

Gun Bills? Lynch Fights With Risky Behavior

”Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars.” —Unknown
The Union Leader’s Gary Raymo reports  how two New Hampshire State Police troopers demonstrated how quickly a semiautomatic rifle can go from unloaded to loaded during a press conference at the Statehouse. That is all that is said.  On the face of it, the reader is left to deduce what the troopers did to demonstrate the point.

Here is this press conference on Tuesday. A whole bunch of people…citizens, lawmakers, other cops, press and who knows who else are concentrated in this room for a press conference to hear Flynch and his lackies decry gun bills. Now, we add a couple of State Troopers with fully loaded firearms to the mix. Then each Trooper, caught in the governor’s gamesmanship and bidding, chambers a round on a semi-automatic rifle, placing it fully in battery (technical term meaning ready to fire) whilst standing amongst a crowd. Interesting concept.

Even people with the minimum of education and brains understand basic safety concepts. NONE of my firearms are EVER loaded with live rounds ANYWHERE with only a few exceptions. First, In my home I have loaded shotguns and handguns for personal defense…welcome to Manchester…break in elsewhere. Second, is the sidearm that I carry on my person. That gun never gets unholstered except for specific need… i.e. self-defense. Third, at the range with muzzle pointed in a safe direction.  It is perfectly lawful to have a loaded handgun in my vehicle because I have obtained a N.H. Pistol Revolver license.

How Fast Can A Rifle Go From Unloded…

…to loaded?  Pretty damn fast, apparently.Gun free zones - where citizens try to run faster than law breakers can load a weapon

Two New Hampshire State Police troopers demonstrated how quickly a semiautomatic rifle can go from unloaded to loaded under a new definition in a bill up for a House vote this week. – (Union leader, Wed 1-4-12)

So with no one else lawfully armed–a policy the police, Governor Lynch, and the university folks both advertise proudly and insist they will defend–the only thing left to stop the rapid loading, unloading, and reloading of a “semiautomatic rifle” in a gun free zone would be what we call…victims. (Or running out of ammo.)

But don’t Democrats love “victims?”

Without victims they have no platform.

Hoplophobes To Oppose Three Gun Bills

”Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples’ liberty’s teeth.”—George Washington

Governor Lynch and his hoplophobite cronies at the New Hampshire Police Chiefs Association are ramping up once again to put the kibosh on three Gun Bills slated to taken up this week by the legislature.

House Bill 334, relative to the state’s authority to prohibit or regulate firearms, firearms components, ammunition, or firearms supplies. Many find this legislation confusing because there is a belief that Public institutions fund with tax payer dollars already fall within the purview of RSA 159:26. In fact, Attorney Penny Dean told the Union Leader, current state law prohibits the University System from banning guns. Yet, somehow those educrats have carved out a little niche of unaccountability and have made an end-run around the legislature, ruling over their fiefdoms as they see fit.
“I think this would be a huge mistake considering the age of the students here, and to have some possess firearms would be extremely dangerous,” UNH Police Chief Nicholas Halias tells the Union Leader. “Some students use alcohol and others use drugs, and having any weapon available would be catastrophic.”

Inebriated William Jasmin Who Fell Out Of A Tree Stand Drops His Lawsuit

“A lawsuit is a fruit tree planted in a lawyer’s garden.” —Italian Proverb

pickpocket.jpg

William Jasmin of Manchester, the drunk, non-licensed hunter who sued a landowner following his own demise in falling from a tree stand, has dropped his lawsuit.

Jasmin suffered partial paralysis when the tree stand he attempted to enter failed, causing him to fall. Jasmin initially proffered in his original pleadings that he was “hunting” but in August amended his pleadings to assert that he was, “scouting.” while present on the land owned by Charlie Corliss, of Epsom,

Jasmin friend Randy Howe had said Corliss had given them permission to use the tree stand, however,  Jasmin’s lawyer now asserts the friend had spoke to someone else who mistakenly believed it was on his property.

This very case stirred concerns and tensions within the hunting community that farmers, foresters and other large landowners might potentially close their property to hunting and other recreational uses, for fear they could be potentially held liable for recreational injuries.

Jasmin’s lawyer B.J. Branch, told The Associated Press, “this suit was never about access to land; The suit was about holding the owner of a defective product accountable.” Baloney! This suit was about William Jasmin finding the deepest possible pockets to compensate him for his own failures to act responsibly, ethically and within the laws of this state. And, while doing this, he was willing and ready to throw the entire hunting community under the bus. Eighty percent of all available hunting land is private property in New Hampshire. Clearly, this lawsuit became about access.

Left Does Not Want You To Connect These Dots

Police Chiefs and Leftists and Lynches oh my!  They conspired to limit your right to self defense in New ON TARGET towards freedomHampshire.  Intimidated you with warnings of bloodshed.  Introduced fear as a catalyst against you.  And for what reason?

Tyranny?  It is more difficult to use government power to manipulate an armed populace, armed with knowledge, armed for self defense. The first thing  tyrant must do is to go after their guns.

Or is it victim-hood?  Let’s face it, muggers and criminals are more than prepared to show you that they are willing to use force to commit a crime.  Why would Democrats refuse you a similar opportunity to prevent a crime? Are they afraid you will discover that a lawfully armed populace can prevent crime without them?  Do they need you to be a victim to advance some agenda?

Londonderry Seeks to Ban Shooting on Public Land

“A critic is someone who never actually goes to the battle, yet who afterwards comes out shooting the wounded.” —Tyne Daly

sHOOTING_tARGETS.gif

Londonderry Town Councilors drafted an amendment to an ordinance that already prohibits activities such as smoking on town-owned property to include a ban on target or skeet shooting, reports the Derry News.

Councilors invited public input at a meeting last night. Londonderry Police Chief Bill Hart said his department received nine complaints about shooting over the last three years.”It’s not clear whether the complaints were prompted by shooting in the Musquash or from the nearby Londonderry Fish and Game Club, which has a shooting range. Also unclear was whether the shots that generated calls were fired during target practice or hunting season. Hunting in season is permitted on town property.”

Councilor Tom Freda said, “I think the (ordinance) is well intentioned, but I don’t see this as being practical with only nine complaints of shooting over three years and there being a shooting range in the area.”

As a past President and current board member for the Londonderry Fish & Game Club, I was invited to show up and comment on the measure, so I did.  There are several aspects I shared with the council. First, the conservation commission has two members who are hostile, if not opposed, to guns and shooting in general and this is just one example of those two injecting their personal objections on the body of the town. There exists no facts that would lend itself to being a safety issue.

Second, The Londonderry Fish & Game Clubs’ 83-acre property is located in the northwest corner of the town and abuts the Musquash conservation land on three sides. Frequently, public use of the Musquash has caused encroachment on the LFGC property. We have tolerated this and not made it a town issue. We have not posted our land and have not banned outside recreational uses.  But, recently, a ATV rider approached me complaining that a, “bullet whistled by his head while riding,” yet he would not acknowledge the fact that he was riding “down range” from our rifle range and passing “No Trespassing signs” and other clear signage that states, “caution…keep out…active firing range…”

WHY I CARRY A GUN: One Woman’s Perspective

“Gun bans disarm victims, putting them at the mercy of murderers or terrorists who think nothing of breaking the gun laws …”  —Michael Badnarik

 Rachel Chumita

Originally published in September 2006 by the Buckeye Firearms Association

woman_handgun_Grok.jpg

When people find out that I carry a gun most of the time, they’re often curious.  What would prompt a woman to do something like that? Because it sounds a little odd, many people conclude that an armed woman must live in constant fear.

Rather the opposite, actually. The account below was written several years ago, but the sentiments in it are no less true today.  Despite the title, it really isn’t about why I started carrying a gun full-time, but about why I keep doing so.

Carrying a gun can be uncomfortable. The gun literally and figuratively gets in the way of some activities. There is a constant and slightly uncomfortable awareness that the folks around me would be unhappy with me if they knew I had a gun under my outer clothing. Nevertheless, I continue to carry almost all day, almost every day.

Last week, I went to pick up two of my children from summer

HOUSE JOINS SENATE, OVERRIDES SENATE BILL 88 VETO

“A moment’s reflection shows that Liberalism is entirely negative. It is not a formative force, but always and only a disintegrating force.” Francis Parker Yockey

Armed%20Senior.JPG

The House voted today to override the Governors’ veto of Senate Bill 88 on the heels of the Senate voting to override last week. The vote was 251 to 111. It should be important to note that the Governor and his faithful went into overdrive to build support for sustaining the veto, to include a walking tour of Lincoln street area of Manchester in the vicinity of Hayward and Somerville Streets. It was there where Attorney General stated, “And we will be providing drug dealers and street gangsters with a new right to respond using more violence in public places…”

At the Governor’s press conference the morning before the house leaders’ press conference, Chief Robert Wharem, President of the New Hampshire Association of Chiefs of Police, told WMUR, “Senate Bill 88 is one of the most dangerous bills we’ve had come before us in our time…” while he had roughly a dozen other police chiefs gathered around him, seeming to imply he speaks for all New Hampshire Chiefs. The difference here is many likely opted to stay home and not politicize this bill, remaining within the confines of their sworn oaths.

At the end of the day, none of their Charlatanry, pandering or demagoguing held any political water, resulting in the veto override which now means the bill is law. Now SB 88 is law. The streets will not run red with blood and responsible, law-abiding citizens will not be prosecuted for lawfully defending themselves against violent attacks.

But to be expected, whenever there is a gun crime it will be certain that the critics of the bill will point to this law as a manifestation of that crime, ignoring the fact that criminals with guns will still commit crimes. They did so before this law and will continue to do so even after this law.

This law protects law-abiding citizens, not Criminals. On the coattails of Senate Bill 88’s passage we will likely hear be hearing next from the Brady Bunch about the enormous social costs of gun violence.  Guy Smith, Author of Gun Facts, has undertaken a most complete compilation of data. Here are just a few examples:

Myth: The social cost of gun violence is enormous

Fact: Because guns are used an estimated 2.5 million times per year to prevent crimes, the cost savings in personal losses, police work, and court and prison expenses vastly outweighs the cost of criminal gun violence and gun accidents. The net savings, under a worst-case scenario, is about $3.5 billion a year.257

Carrying a Gun Is an Act of Civilization (in all meanings)

"The Gun Is Civilization" By Maj. L. Caudill, USMC (Ret)

Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another:  reason and force.  If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force.  Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception.  Reason or force, that’s it.

In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion.  Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

When It Comes to the Second Amendment, Guiliani’s The Man!

“I love New York City; I’ve got a gun.”~Charles Barkley

Guiliani_graphic_GROK.jpg

As I often do in the morning, I settled in with a hot cup of Joe to read today’s edition of the New Hampshire Union Leader. Turning to page A3, Dan Tuohy’s headline read, Giuliani takes stand on firearms rights“. Now, given Mayor Guiliani’s high public profile and his history on the second Amendment, I just had to read this story before anything else. I mean, why pass up a chance to be amused first thing in the morning? This might even be funnier than one of Raymond Buckley’s quotes.

Manchester Harley-Davidson dealership owner Steve Talarico introduced Mayor Guiliani, wanting to  “help clear the air” of any misconceptions about the former New York Mayor’s record on gun issues. “The mayor seems to be probably one of the most misinterpreted politicians on the Second Amendment,” Talarico tells his audience. Really Steve? Damn! sorry about that…Guess the Mayor really is a gun guy when he told the St. Louis Post in December of 1993, “…a uniform licensing system with real teeth in it, and a period where you’d have to demonstrate your capability of using a gun, and then every two years you’d have to go back and once again show that you’re stable, your healthy, you’re able to handle a gun and you know what to do with it…”Now, that doesn’t much resemble a gun control measure, does it? how ignorant of me.

Or how about this little gem as recently as February 2007 while making an appearance on Larry King Live? King asks, “Favor Gun Control? Favor Brady?” Guiliani responds, “For Handguns, And I did…” Silly me, I took that to mean Rudy told Larry King that he supported the Brady Bill. I must have been in doofus-mode that day.
