Turkey Feathers and AR-15s

I’m so very tired of the intellectually empty argument from self-loathing (yet surprisingly haughty) Americans that “the Constitution was written by a bunch of dead, white, slave-owners” and that “the second amendment was written about muskets“.

Regarding the first of these two arguments: The Founders were the intellectual superstars of their time.  Most of them were rigorously trained, from very early ages, in philosophy, mathematics, logic, rhetoric, writing, politics, religion, the Greek and Latin languages, and economics.  Many of them went to Harvard, Yale, Princeton (College of New Jersey), or Columbia (King’s College) as teenagers.  Many of them could quote, from memory, Cicero, Plato, Virgil, Horace, Caesar, and others.  They mastered these subjects, and were some of the most well-rounded individuals this country has seen, or ever will.

Thirty of the fifty-five delegates to the Constitutional Convention were college graduates, all trained in similar fashion.

The point here is…

Joe Biden: “If it only saves one life!” A concealed carrier saved two that night.

SigSauer P220 .45 ACPOf all of the stupidest arguments that Progressives use over and over again is that of “if it only saves one life, it’s worth it!”.  The hypocrisy is that when confronted with that absurdity with other concrete example of danger (but do not fit the Narrative Du Jour), they grimace and “that’s stupid” without realizing that they have just made your argument for you.  Like Joe Biden here to the members of his Gun Grabber Task Force: “If our actions result in only saving one life, they’re worth taking.” (watch here).  In fact, one person listed a whole bunch of things that should be banned forever if saving one life was really all that important – yet Progressives never would…

…Versus just being a talking point primarily used in a reducto absurdem way that makes them feel morally superior – but shows how intellectually weak they truly are (too much time in the echo chamber).  Especially when confronted with reality; from 10TV.com (reformmatted and emphasis mine):

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A Columbus man said that he fought back when a man tried to rob him at gunpoint in west Columbus Monday night.  Kelby Smith, 34, told police he was in the driveway of the home on Crescent Drive just before 9 p.m. when he was approached by a robber. Smith said that he had his 2-month-old in a car carrier and had to shield him from the robber who held a gun at Smith’s head. The suspect took Smith’s money and started to flee the scene as he pointed the gun back at Smith and his child.

That’s when Smith pulled out his own gun and fired at the robber.

The robber continued to run, but police said that a man fitting his description arrived at Mount Carmel West a short time later with a gunshot wound.

Peggy Noonan on recent gun sales explosion: “…and they also fear their Government.”

On “This week with George Stephanopolus”, Peggy Noonan said what I have been posting about here for a while.  If that angst has now trickled up to a nationally rated columnist and talking head on one of the top rated national political shows, that assures that there is a problem.  The gun sales are through the roof to the point of being almost unobtainable – and is finally getting noticed.  George asked Peggy Noonan the question:

Peggy Noonan, Newtown happened one month ago tomorrow.  We are going to see here from VP Joe Biden on Tuesday.  But we’ve been talking about this for the last few weeks on the program.  Every time I talk to a group of Senators, it does seem that there is a not a lot of sharing of the President’s sense of urgency on this issue.

Her response:

On Capitol Hill, you mean?  Look, guns are a very tough topic in America.  I do think that if the VP comes forward with some with his report on Tuesday that looks at the whole violence problem in a way that includes guns and extended magazines and such but how we also deal with the mentally ill in America and what to do if you have a 17 year old kid that appears to be unstable and violent?  There is a cultural angle to this, we all know what it is, we all go through the motions on this, we have for 25 years but a Democratic President addressing the cultural part of it this would be a little like Nixon to China.

If Biden has something to say that touches on all those things…

“Gun Control” – that’s just so HARSH. WMUR approves of Obama Administration’s Politically Correct term: “safety”

During lunch I wanted to find out what the weather was going to be so I switched on WMUR and listened to Melinda Davenport read the update on the Presidential Gun Task Force:

Well, the gun debate continues to heat up.  VP Joe Biden kicked off his gun violence task force yesterday by meeting with gun violence survivors and safety groups.  Today he sat down with the other side of this controversial topic as he he meets with the NRA.  The task force will make recommendations for gun policy changes at the end of the month.

Note that?  Nice to see the constant slide of the Left in changing their chameleon skins – and the Media’s complicity in helping out.  Back in the late 1800s and early 1900s, they called themselves “Progressives*.  They so wore out their welcome with that word, they decided to alter ego themselves and merely change their names “Hey, we’re Liberals – we’re NEW and DIFFERENT”.  Yeah, so different, they had to start back using their old name “Progressive”.  Same people, different names, same regressive philosophy.  Truthfulness in advertising? No – language perversion in the cause of collectivism winning out over Liberty & Freedom.

Hardly.  They have one LARGE fundamental problem – if they called themselves, and their policies, exactly what their heartfelt policies would result in, nobody would go for them.  Their real monniker should be “Hiders” – especially amongst the Political Class Progressives who couldn’t be elected dog catcher, in many cases, if their true ends were known with ALL of the ramifications.

Cowering Woman

Remember, Progressives hate women defending themselves.  Why?  Well, Susan just posted another case of “what as bad when Republicans did it, but fine when Democrats do it” – their faux cries of “settled law” (here and here).  Here we see the regressive nature of Democrats in trying to reverse the Natural Right to defend yourself.  No longer will it be lawful to defend your home (“castle”) or yourself where ever you happen to be – even if you do not “consent” to give your Right to the State in this regard.

This case illustrates wonderfully, beautifully is the difference:

Conservatives:

You have the Natural Right (and responsibility) to defend yourself.  The State should not force you to outsource that to itself.  Remember, the lives of you and your family, loved ones, and friends might depend on it.  Gun Control: firm grip, get the correct sight picture, and keep the muzzle pointed at the evil ones.  Carry on.

Guns And Freedom

“Today, the limitations on the power and precision of the guns we can lawfully own not only violate our natural right to self-defense and our personal sovereignties; they assure that a tyrant can more easily disarm and overcome us.”—Judge Andrew Napolitano

Andrew P. Napolitano, a former judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey, is the senior judicial analyst at Fox News Channel. Judge Napolitano has written seven books on the U.S. Constitution.

The right of the people to keep and bear arms is an extension of the natural right to self-defense and a hallmark of personal sovereignty. It is specifically insulated from governmental interference by the Constitution and has historically been the linchpin of resistance to tyranny. And yet, the progressives in both political parties stand ready to use the coercive power of the government to interfere with the exercise of that right by law-abiding persons because of the gross abuse of that right by some crazies in our midst.

When Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence that we are endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights, he was marrying the nation at its birth to the ancient principles of the natural law that have animated the Judeo-Christian tradition in the West. Those principles have

“Freedom isn’t for wimps.” —Neal Boortz

On Sunday, January 6, The Nashua Telegraph featured a, Letter to the Editor from Andrew Mazer of Hollis. Ordinarily, letters like Mazer’s are piss-poor subject matter for any edifying blog. But painfully, the nation is rife with Middle-aged sensitive new-aged progressive guys like Andy Mazer. We use to call them, “Whiners,” or, “Wimps.” Now they are called something else. Pick whatever “PC” label that doesn’t piss anyone off.  Just don’t call them wimps because you will have to go to PC rehab.

Mazer takes issues with a statistic

Gun Control In Australia: Watch What Happens When Guns Are Banned

“If you talk to any of my Democratic colleagues who lost that year, they would tell that gun control was one of the major contributory factors in the loss of their seats…”   —U.S. House Rep. John Dingell, (D) Michigan 12th District http://youtu.be/OyS3CEIbpJo

Notable Quote – Mark Jones

I’ve been hearing cries for “compromise” from the usual gun control proponents. Funny, but in a real compromise, both sides give something up. What CURRENT gun control laws are they prepared to repeal in return any new laws they’d like to enact? None, of course. Which is why the call for compromise is a cynical … Read more

Has a REVOLVER. Shoots Intruder 5 times. Hits six times. He’s still moving. Know what the problem was?

Revolvers are what the gun grabbers wish to reduce us to – if even that.”

While the weak-kneed gun grabbers are all thinking that eliminating guns is the answer comes this story that should make themselves grovel in front of this lady; from Loganville, GA:

A woman hiding in her attic with children shot an intruder multiple times before fleeing to safety Friday.

The incident happened at a home on Henderson Ridge Lane in Loganville around 1 p.m. The woman was working in an upstairs office when she spotted a strange man outside a window, according to Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman. He said she took her 9-year-old twins to a crawlspace before the man broke in using a crowbar.

But the man eventually found the family.

More has come out since then – she was in a closet with her kids in the attic and was on the phone with her husband when Mr. Scumbag broke in (her husband was the one that called 911).  Just like those teachers in Sandy Hook (and yes, since the Progressives decided to “not let a tragedy go waste” and make it political, I am perfectly fine in “returning fire”).  Just like Adam Lanza, this scumbag man forcibly broke.  No, he wasn’t there merely to burgle the place – if so, he would have been in and out without looking for a conflict.  No, his purpose was to hunt her and her kids down.  Evil personified.  A man against a woman and two little girls – as the Libs say, as the FEMINISTS say, a power inequality existed.  The three females were about to be toast, just like those first graders.  Yet, Progressives believe in their heart of hearts (and tops of their craniums) that they can “perfect” even an evil scumbag of a man.

Oh wait!

Do our betters truly wish us to be this helpless?

I bookmark 100 times the number of other writers’ posts than what I can ever comment on.  Sometimes, I “find them” again – like this one.   If I was on “the other side”, I might put up as a Notable Quote – but sadly, I consider it to be an ignoble one.  American Federation of Teachers, Randi Weingarten, on gun control and school safety:

Firearms have absolutely no place in our schools—the Dec. 14, 2012, tragic massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., is a chilling and heartbreaking reminder of this. Permitting firearms in schools—visible or concealed—enables a dangerous set of circumstances that can result in similar tragic outcomes. We should be doing everything we can to reduce the possibility of any gunfire in schools, and concentrate on ways to keep all guns off school property and ensure the safety of children and school employees.

The school had upgraded its facilities in the name of safety – glass, door, buzzer, cameras.  They had practiced the drills for lockdown.  The police had done their part with drills on active shooters.  They arrived 20 minutes after Adam Lanza killed his mother (breaking the law), stole her AR (breaking the law), stole her Sig handgun (breaking the law), stole another handgun  (breaking the law), stole a shotgun (breaking the law), stole her car (breaking the law), illegally entered the building (breaking the law), and began his murderous rampage of revenge ( (breaking the law multiple times).

I read Weingarten’s words then and just read them again.  And I think of Victoria Soto, the first grade teacher that put locked her door, put her students into a closet….and then waited.  Hearing the screams.  Hearing the gunfire. And scared to think that she and her charges would be next.  Helpless.

The true meaning of the Second Amendment – and it isn’t for sport or hunting.

Self-defense?  Yes, but not just for personal defense.  As I said here, I often run out of time in commenting on others’ posts.  Here, Kevin Williamson (whom we have interviewed in the past) talks about the real reason that the Second Amendment exists – the very uncomfortable reason, for Progressives and Big Government types that believe Government can only be for good, is that the Second Amendment is to be able to fight Tryanny – from without OR from within:

Brett, like practically every other person seeking to diminish our constitutional rights, either does not understand the purpose of the Second Amendment or refuses to address it, writing, “Gun advocates will be hard-pressed to explain why the average American citizen needs an assault weapon with a high-capacity magazine other than for recreational purposes.” The answer to this question is straightforward: The purpose of having citizens armed with paramilitary weapons is to allow them to engage in paramilitary actions. The Second Amendment is not about Bambi and burglars — whatever a well-regulated militia is, it is not a hunting party or a sport-clays club. It is remarkable to me that any educated person — let alone a Harvard Law graduate — believes that the second item on the Bill of Rights is a constitutional guarantee of enjoying a recreational activity.

There is no legitimate exception to the Second Amendment for military-style weapons, because military-style weapons are precisely what the Second Amendment guarantees our right to keep and bear. The purpose of the Second Amendment is to secure our ability to oppose enemies foreign and domestic, a guarantee against disorder and tyranny. Consider the words of Supreme Court justice Joseph Story — who was, it bears noting, appointed to the Court by the guy who wrote the Constitution:

Disarming America, Moving Toward Tyranny?

“People love conspiracy theories.” Neil Armstrong

Not so much. Yes…The internet is awash with all sorts of conspiracy theories that spin tales of how the government is going to disarm the populace and tyranny shall rule the day. A considerable amount of what is out there amount to no more than “Tin-foiled hat-wearing” doomsayers who probably didn’t get enough attention, Ritalin or positive feedback as kids. It’s there.

But on the other hand, Some of the stuff is well-written and compelling enough to literally scare the “bejesus” out of impressionable young souls. Am I dismissing much of it? Yes.  But not for the

Gun Control – are Republicans in DC about to go weak-knees again?

Are we to the point of asking “what will the Republicans stand for – do they even know what they stand for”?  Or do we relegate them mostly sit in the corner, mumbling to themselves, drooling?  Anyone that knows me knows that I am always good for a debate (er, not that I am always “good” – just always ready to debate) but I also like to listen to a good debate as well.  Best part for me is listening to the Round Table segments of Fox News “Special Report with Bret Baier”.

But as I was listening Thursday night, my head snapped around from the laptop when I heard Tucker Carlson.  They had been talking about the Fiscal Cliff and what was next:

But look, this is not the end.  Even in this month, so Democrats have said that they want to get an immigration bill and a gun control bill through by the end of January.  Whether they do that or not is an open question.

I spoke to a senior Republican, VERY senior republican last night and asked a simple question “Do you think that a lot of members in your caucus will break and vote for gun control.  He said “YES”. That has got to be the last core Republican issue there is.  If you see a sizable number of Republicans peel off to vote for a new version of the assault weapons ban, say, then, you know, it’s over at that point. They are just not a credible opposition if that happens.

Sure, I railed about the Congressional vote (“For a meager mess of porridge; so what DOES the Republican Party stand for now?“).  Yes, it could have been cast as a win, as the long decided Bush tax cuts are now permanent – but not for all.  The Republicans were willing to sacrifice some – letting Obama crow that he had broken their will on raising taxes, as their compromise did exactly that.  $620 Billion more to fund an even bigger Government (any thoughts of it going to reduce the defict are about as illusory as the “clean” air in the Choom Gang’s Volkswagen bus).

Do the Republicans wish to defend the innocence of the vast majority of Americans, many of them Republicans, who the Left are declaring to be guilty simply because we own “scary” looking rifles?

So, what’s the reaction been to the gun grabbers? Lots!

So, what’s the reaction been to the gun grabbers? Lots! – Part II

Rassmussen is reporting that MORE guns in schools are the right way to go:

Fifty-four percent (54%) of American adults would feel safer if their child’s school had an armed security guard. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 26% would feel safer if their child attended a school where no adults were allowed to have guns. Another 20% are undecided.

Among parents of school-aged children, support for armed guards is even higher. Sixty-two percent (62%) of such parents would feel safer with an armed security guard at the school, while 22% would feel safer if their child attended a gun-free school.

And of course, we hear from many of the “Education Professionals” that the last thing they want to do is to disturb “the status quo” of the gun free zone (aka – “gun free victims here!!”).  But the actual Employers (aka, the parents, whose tax monies pay their salaries) are telling them otherwise).  Yet, reports are coming back that private offers of gun training for teachers and school staffs are being accepted far beyond expectations – so when you listen to “the professionals”, not all are of the mind to “lock the door and cower in the corner, defenseless.”

After all, it took the Sandy Hill police 20 minutes to arrive at that school – and they had drilled on this.  Yet, the Diane Feinsteins of the world want us defenseless even as the vast majority of us are being judged to be guilty for the acts of a few.

Send a Wanker home for Christmas – Part III

Grokster Tom put up Send a Wanker home for Christmas in reaction to CNN’s Brit celebrity talking head, Piers Morgan, constant hoplaphobic yakking about how some US Citizens “over value” the words of the Second Amendment and seems to be in total agreement with Obama’s phrase concerning bitter clingers and their guns and Bibles.  Then some folks decided to take advantage of the White House new petition feature and ask that Piers Morgan be deported for being a threat to the US Constitution!

Well, I guess the Wanker has his nose out of joint – we may get our wish all by his lonesome

The concerted effort to get me thrown out of the country – which has so far gathered more than 90,000 signatures – struck me as rather ironic, given that by expressing my opinion I was merely exercising my rights, as a legal US resident, under the 1st Amendment, which protects free speech.

He shows an astonishing lack of knowledge about the First, even if he is a legal US resident; you may say what you want – that doesn’t mean that we have to treat you like a Queen – just sit there, nod our heads, and quietly titter “oh, how British of him”.  He comes from the land of a noisy, loud, and raucous Parliament.  He expects us to act otherwise?

But no matter.

This gun debate is an ongoing war of verbal attrition in America – and I’m just the latest target, the advantage to the gun lobbyists being that I’m British, a breed of human being who burned down the White House in 1814 and had to be forcefully deported en masse, as no American will ever be allowed to forget – Special Relationship notwithstanding.

Don’t worry about that “Special Relationship”- Obama has made it clear that the official (albeit not necessarily non-public, but just watching his actions) stance on that is about the same as the truthfulness and veracity as that quaint notion of American Exceptionalism.
