Do we look too young to be...smoking? NH Tobacco revenu up again Nothing makes me smile like watching another left wing New Hampshire Democrat narrative go up in smoke. Which narrative, you ask, there are so many to choose from? Why, the one about how irresponsible it was to cut the tobacco tax and how it would never stimulate enough other forms of cross border commerce to make up the difference. A notion that is not just backwards, it runs counter to the entire concept of the New Hampshire advantage.

So right out of the gate, the Democrats had no where to run on this issue–not that they didn’t try–and now things are looking bad for their tobacco tax narrative.

Governor Martin O’Malley Rallies NH Democrats…

Remember when New Hampshire Governor John Lynch slithered off in secret to Tim Gill’s secret Gay-millionaire-democrat-donor confab known as Political OutGiving? He wasn’t fundraising, so he said, but ended up with around $100,000.00 in contributions from the attendees (He got the rest of his 2010 campaign cash from Unions and his own bank account). Well the only other Governor at that same event was Maryland’s Martin O’Malley.

Governor O’Malley probably wasn’t there to “fund-raise” either but given that he was reportedly on the fence about Gay Marriage, and the Gay lobby was pushing hard for a Gay Marriage bill in Maryland, and Governor John Lynch–who was against Gay Marriage before he was bought off by outside money and intimidated by the state party to be for it–the presence of this Democrat couple at the secret Chicago Millionaire Gay donor-confab seemed hardly serendipitous.

Nor does this seem coincidental–the choice of Governor Martin O’Malley to speak to the New Hampshire State Democrat Party convention last Saturday.

I’ve received a few comments on my previous post about the Barret rally at which a US Marine protester was removed and arrested. The commenters are making a case that David Willoughby was cursing and presented a threat to the Mayor and former President Clinton, which the Milwaukee Police News documents as follows.

David B. Willoughby, 39, of West Allis, was issued a municipal citation for disorderly conduct when he refused to comply with Milwaukee Police orders to step back from his location where he was waving a large wooden pole with a sign mounted on it. Given his proximity to Mayor Tom Barrett and other dignitaries, officers believed he posed a threat with the large sign and was asked to move back.

I think this is basically a load of crap.

Remembering Democrat Rule Part 2

If New Hampshire Democrats were ever again allowed to run the State legislature we already know the first thing they would do. They would overestimate revenue to justify spending for the purpose of driving us into a broad based tax. They did it during a recession, with unemployment skyrocketing, embarking on one of the most massive modern day expansions of New Hampshire state government. What’s to stop them doing it again under any other condition? Republicans. Barring that, nothing. It’s who they are.

Spending was and always is the Democrats first priority and Governor Lynch’s most recent budget was just another example. Even without a Democrat legislature he wanted to spend 4.731 billion on General and Education funds, almost 300 million more than the current Republican Budget; a budget 6% less than that of Governor Lynch; a Republican budget that is almost exactly in line with actual revenue. (That means it spent what they estimated they would take in.)

But left unchecked by Republicans Democrat Governor Lynch would have got his budget and then some, and added another 300 million dollar hole that the taxpayers of New Hampshire would have had to fill because there wasn’t another $300 million plus to spend without raising some more taxes in this lousy economy.

The New Hampshire Democrat party and their fellow travelers have nothing to run on so the travails of one man in the New Hampshire House, DJ Bettencourt, are all they’ve got. Of course, he will no longer be in the NH House, a feature of his circumstances which we would never see from a New Hampshire Democrat, and therein lies the rub.

The New Hampshire Hypocrats have as much moral authority to point fingers at Bettencourt as NAMBLA would have it were ever to complain about Catholic Priests sexually abusing boys. Actually, the NH Democrats may have less.

So what did Union Leader’s Ted Seifer wish to accomplish with this line?

Filling a vacancy on any Supreme Court–be it the US Supremes or the NH Supremes–is a big deal, so it is no surprise that people are talking and reporting on it (as we have here, here, and here). So did the Union Leader; Ted Seifer interviewed Tim, asking him about the NHLRF‘s position on Gov. John Lynch’s nominee for the NH Supreme Court, Jim Basssett. Having gotten the link from a friend I decided to read the piece and this caught my eye:

Factually true, but what does the Free State Project connection have to do with the NH Constitutional basis that forms the basis for the NHLRF activities?

This morning’s Union Leader reported the passage of a bill in the New Hampshire House that would ban any tax on internet access. They also reported that it included $1.7 million in funding for the reduction of the developmentally disabled services wait list. The vote margin was 245-80, with the majority of dissenters on the Democrat side.

If this reporting is accurate the scope of the lefts hypocrisy here might be epic. Internet and broadband access have been used as a left wing class, warfare, dirge. Voting to tax it is not exactly “pro less-fortunate” nor pro-more “in need of internet access.” But to vote against funding the disabled services list again?

What and who are the neocons, really?

So I got into a little contretemps online the other day about “neocons” when someone suggested that I was one, or at least a supporter of one in saying Rep. Allen West of Florida would make an interesting choice for GOP vice president. In response I went off on a bit of a historical rant, explaining who the neocons (more accurately “Neo-Conservatives,” as they were originally known) are, and where they came from (the moniker today is usually just used as an epithet, with no historical background; kind of a substitute for “war monger”). My rant apparently served some purpose, as some people have emailed me and said “thanks, I never was clear before on exactly who or what the neocons were.” Then Skip saw it and said “run it, run it!” So, okay, here’s a heavily edited version of what I said:

OK, Part 1 is here – which simply pulled out a couple of nuggets from the proposed HB 1704 as found at NH.GOV. While there was enough uproar to have the NH Senate table it last week, it is supposedly coming back from the dead. I have already made the pitch that the bill needs to be amended so that donors / contributors / supporters no longer be listed. The reason for that as the Progressives have pushed politics into ever more parts of Society at large (instead of keeping it simply in the Governmental / Political sphere), they are coming up against The Law of Diminishing Returns which states that the next incremental “gain” for them (which I consider a loss when compared to traditional Western Liberalism / Constitutionalism) costs more and requires more. Thus, the new tactic now in wide deploy of finding and deliberately creating damage to their political opposition; no, not just in the political realm but in and to their personal lives and families. Their scorched earth mentality is to so punish ordinary citizens (often, whose only “political crime” is to defend traditional American values) that these folks will either remain silent or destitute on the street (after all, they are just following Obama’s lead in intending to bankrupt the coal industry and from EPA Regional Administrator whose “leadership style concerning energy companies was to “crucify the first five to pacify the rest” and by that, silence dissent.

I have to admit, the person that titled this amendment to HB 1704 is out to:

Protect the Political Class (and yes, Establishment Republicans are certainly often part of this Class)
Silence the opposition to their rule

I hate to have to keep repeating it, but when our Political Class is either seemingly incapable of remembering this or willfully wish to disregard it, I feel like I have to be an elementary school teacher and repeat, repeat, and repeat some more:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

So, here be the beginning of the fisking of the “Protect the Politicans’ Ass Amendment” (full text later in this post).

ABC Cancels GCB – Too Much Competition from DCB?

ABC Canceled GCB. (That’s the family Friendly Disney/ABS’c short-lived controversial program about so-called Christian women who do not behave according the The Word.) Who among us is without sin? ABC certainly cannot claim otherwise.

While I’m sure GCB could have played well enough in the coast cities and liberal ghettos, it must–after all–be a show based on how Democrats actually approach the faith (you write what you know, yes?) no one else seems to have cared for it. And why would they? We already have the ugly version of this progran running 24/7 in DC called Democrat “Christian” Bitches (DCB). (I’m not being sexist here–most of the ‘bitches’ in the Democrat party are actually men, and most if not all the of the “Christian” Democrats are simply hypocrites.)

Another Summer of Our Health Care Discontent

In all likelihood the US Supreme court will deal a mortal blow to Obama-care, the Patient Affordable Health Care and Socialism for All or Something Act before they go on recess for the summer. Progressives being who they are, and seeing as this is an election year, will only view this as another opportunity to flog opponents and to pontificate in favor of whatever elements of the ‘plan’ they were told to tell you about the first time around.

But these are details that, as it turns out, were based on an ancient study (2000) by the World Health Organizers in the WHO whose mission it was to make socialized medicine look good. So it behooves us to gird our loins with the armor of truth; that this major source of all those Health Care talking points is a fraud.

Smokes and Mirrors – What’s Up With Tobacco Taxes?

All across the the Granite State Democrats have gathered in their secret underground lairs. The unthinkable has happened. Tobacco revenues were up last month. (Audible Gasp!). That’s right. Revenues beat estimates.

This is, of course, a double edged sword for the liberal left. When their grotesque estimates (overall) were forever coming in under target, how many times did they say, “it’s just one month, wait and see. Give it time, they’ll come around. We’re not that far off.” No such quarter for Republicans. ( Typical hypocrats.) At the ugly end of the 2007 to 2010 Democrat “experiment” they were off by about a billion dollars which might suggest they have no clue what they are doing.

But when the Republican’s estimated revenues for their budget the Democrats cried and whined anyway as if they were suddenly experts; the religious left even gathered to pray for more spending. I’m not kidding. They prayed for more spending. The left claimed repeatedly that Republican estimates were purposefully low to punish people. That is what the left said.

But the overall estimates are close. Very close. This means the Democrats were wrong about Republicans underestimating revenue on purpose, which means they were themselves wrong about estimates again (no surprise there). With revenue nearly in line with spending, bitching about it makes them look petty and just reminds everyone what wretched stewards they were of our tax dollars.

So left hanging without an economic axe to grind they have bet their rhetorical money on the cigarette tax cut. But they may have lost that bet as well.

The War on Women continues apace, and right here in the Granite State. According to ‘The New Hampshire,’ a UNH campus publication, on April 28th, 30 people “gathered outside of Thompson Hall to participate in a national rally for women’s reproductive rights in support of access to birth control, Plan B One-Step, Planned Parenthood, and abortions.”
