Portsmouth Democrat Matthew Hancock announced this week that he has added his name to the list of primary pimping Progressives wishing to mount a challenge to the GOP held first congressional district seat in New Hampshire. But after reading Matt’s press release I’m not quite sure what he brings to the table that is any different than the left wing clone-troopers already running?
Owning rental property is a daunting endeavor. With ownership comes financial challenges, legal exposure, and responsibilities not traditionally endured with single family home ownership. Add to that facet renting to college students and the task becomes a head-snapping endeavor.
Years ago, I found myself dealing with twelve units of off-campus student housing in Durham New Hampshire. In my experience, I found the cards were stacked against me. The town of Durham has never taken the steps necessary to effectively deal with their rental housing market specifically how it interfaces between the college and the town. Much of what is in place is the knee-jerk reaction of the vocal few.
College students going off to college means this is their first time away from home. They are on their own and not under the wing or the rules of Mommy and Daddy. Living off campus means having, “ones’ own place” and celebrating that first breath of new-found independence. The problem is that independence can manifest it in ways that are not positive.
Stem cells. You heard of them? Democrats love stem cells. But just the Embryonic variety. Progressives love them so much they put embryonic stem cell research on the pedestal right next to renewable energy as evidence of their commitment to “science.” We heard all about it back in 2008.
President Obama rode the Stem cell nag all the way to March of 2009 when Dear Leader signed an order sending big bags of taxpayer funding, in the name of science, to support the next generation of cures for things like diabetes, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, and Spinal cord injuries.
Jeanne Shaheen, Democrat Senator from New Hampshire, stood beside Mr. Obama, diabetic granddaughter/prop at her side, crooning in a press release after the executive order announcing that “Today, President Obama took a major step in restoring America’s role as a leader in science and medicine by lifting the ban on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.”
It was the damn Renaissance, brought to you by Jeanne “I need a Blue Ribbon Panel to tell me how to tie my own shoes” Shaheen and a guy who had visited all 57 States. What could go wrong?
There is one very upset and confused guy on one of the email lists I’m on; a Libertarian TEA Party kind of guy, he JUST cannot for the life of him, understand why Newt Gingrich is surging so with Movement Conservatives. And why TEA Partiers are flocking to Newt just is beyond his comprehension. So, the above question uttered from his fingertips. Never wishing to leave a challenge undone, I answered: “A tool“. Now, in many groups, that would be fightin’ words – in this case, merely “a tool with which to achieve an end”. And I wish, at the time, that I had thought of that two word answer. I will agree with you that beating Obama is not a done deal. We all, as uber-political junkies know that because we know that a lot of effort is going to be done by the vast Left Wing / Union conspiracy in their GOTV (Get Out The Vote) efforts. We all, from our lofty positions (heh!) known that many people are not really all that knowledgeable about ALL the issues and all of the nuances thereof, and will therefore , may well vote for Obama. Again.
Being here in NH, I can tell you the overriding issue to Movement Conservatives and TEA Partiers is not to beat Obama right now but to beat Romney. That is the near term issue that is forefront on every TEA Party / 9-12 / Conservative’s mind. Five weeks to go.

Still waiting on the New Hampshire State Democrat Party Apparatus to unleash its year long media campaign against President Obama and the matter of Heating aid. Obama, who has time to sell guns to drug lords and loan billions of your dollars to failing solar energy companies run by his campaign bundlers–two things we are also waiting on Suckley and the NHDP to denounce–cut LIHEAP funding in half back in February. LIHEAP is federal heating aid assistance. His reasoning was simple.

Last month, while speaking at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, presidential candidate New Gingrich drew the hue and cry of liberals everywhere when he suggested that children can learn the value of a paycheck by maintaining their own buildings.
On the face of it, I was perplexed why people were so up-in-arms about Gingrich’s suggestion. But then as I read on, I understood what the real issue was. Newt also said,
“Most of these schools ought to get rid of the unionized janitors, have one master janitor, and pay local students to take care of the school,”
Southern New Hampshire 9.12 announced today that the forum for a Lincoln-Douglass style debate between Governor Jon Huntsman and former Speaker Newt Gingrich has had its venue changed without their knowledge or permission. The debate was scheduled for December 12th, at 7 pm, at Windham High School.
From what I can tell it appears as if the Huntsman campaign arranged the event at St. Anselms College without including the Windham organizers in the process. Speaker Gingrich has said he will attend that debate but is still planning to appear in Winhdam where hundreds of people have already reserved seats for the event, far more than the facility in Manchester.

The Union Leaders‘ opposite editorial page give Erica Bickford, a licensed massage therapist from Wolfeboro, ink today not only arguing against House Bill 446, but actually advocating for its’ defeat.
To advocate for licensure on the basis of public health interest is a separate matter from seeking governmental force in protecting an exclusive business interest. Bickford queries, “Would you allow your children to cut your hair?” Actually, there are many people out there cutting hair in kitchens with scissors and clippers purchased at Walmart or Target none of whom have ever enrolled in a 1,500-hour cosmetology or barbering program. And that has always been the case. Erica then asks, Would you allow an untrained person help you recover from an athletic injury? There are people out there telling others to rest, apply ice, compression and elevation who have never taken a sports medicine class or sat for a licensing exam. When I saw that over at Instapundit, my immediate reaction was an application of Newton’s Laws: America: Obama shouldn’t be let out of the White House until his Federal spending is cut!
Certainly in the blogosphere, many bits and pixels have given up their virtual lives in the discussion of the Occupy “We are the 99%” vs the eveeeel “1%” capitalists who force Government to participate in crony capitalism. Yet, the real 99% should be viewed as Society at large while the 1% are the Government workers (actually, the percentage is much higher, but go with me here). The Leftists / Statists are all up in arms about the eveeeel capitalistic 1% with a vengence but go ahead, ask them about the “Governmental 1%”.
The Statists are still all about redistribution, but with a twist. With the #OWS crowd, they want the redistribution flowing from the 1% to the 99%. On the other hand with the “Governmental 1%”, they demand that the redistribution flow from the 99% to the 1%. Cognitive dissonance or intellectual dishonesty? Yet, study after study has shown that when all issues are factored in, the Public Sector is oft compensated far higher than the equivalent job in the Private Sector.
One of the reasons that they do the puffery on is “Government workers are more educated and have more experience than Private sector workers”. Hmmm, well, let’s see what you think when you review Exhibit A”:

People DON’T want to think about politics all the time. For most people, it is a waste of time as they deal with their jobs, their spouses. They have reality based lives to lead, actual families to take care of, jobs to perform in. Hobbies, past times, and causes other than politics to care about and in which to get involved.
Problem is, Progressives are convinced that it IS their job to hijack (word specifically chosen) Government so as to then be able to “shape” our lives so that “we will be better”.
We opened the doors on GraniteGrok five years ago now – right near the “end of the beginning” part of time when the blogosphere really started to take off in popularity. At the time, when Doug and I agreed to start the site, I looked around for the most scalable and flexible platform I could and settled on Moveable Type 3.35. We customized it, learned some of its ins and outs, and it stood us in good stead for its time and its design capabilities.
Well, during the last year, it became clear that its shortcomings were becoming too long in the tooth to ignore. With almost 10,000 posts the Search had started to crawl, the back-end area in which we write our posts and do normal SysAdmin stuff was really behind the times; it was almost impossible to to keep up with “the latest and greatest” in social media….you get the picture. I will tell you, though, letting go of the old site was hard to do (given all the work I did over the years on it), but the other Groksters convinced me (er, near to a mutiny???) it was time. So we started in.
Wednesday, Public Service of New Hampshire President Gary Long went before The Governor and Executive Council and members of the Public Utilities Commission and shamelessly defended PSNH’s dismal response to the Halloween Snow storm that left thousands without power.
As conveyed in the Union Leader story yesterday, Long blamed the weather and trees, not PSNH and told the council he was, “quite proud of PSNH’s tremendous efforts,” calling the storm response “a success story.” Long took no responsibility. He even went so far as to blame customers, saying that all of the outages were caused by trees, most of which are were, outside the trim zone, fingering state laws for he says makes it hard to trim the trees. He blamed the rate payer for, “not being adequately prepared.”
Former John Edwards supporter and leader of what used to be NH Freedom to Marry, director Mo Baxley, is having a rough November. Maybe not as rough as denying to herself and her credibility for what must have felt like years, that Edwards was not in fact the total scum bag he turned out to be; but then having your out-of-state sugar daddy cut your funding (after whining about other groups out of state funding), and having them give it to some other group to do what you thought you were doing, well that’s just got to hurt.
Or maybe not. The facade fell as fast as the paycheck so maybe we’re looking at the total package. A hypocrite who liked to insist that people denounce her definition of hate, racism, or bigotry or be marked as complicit in it, but who never once held her Democrat accomplices to the same standard.
A recent case in point? Taylor Garrett, Republican, Christian, Homosexual, assaulted in what is being described as a hate crime against a gay man. (…)
