Today is Easter Sunday. Whether you are into the religious significance or not, it is a long celebrated holiday by a large number of people on the planet. The Eggs and bunny thing is certainly a feature of the modern holiday and a noted aspect throughout Europe for centuries, with or without Jesus. So why did Google, the most invasive Internet presence on the entire planet, decide to use their Google ‘Doodle’ to celebrate…the birth of Cesar Chavez?

Today is Easter, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Google is well known for celebrating certain days with their “doodle art” when you go to their home page – and some of it is quite clever. Today, for the billions of Christians celebrate their holiest of remembrances, do you think that Google just might acknowledge that? Well, you tell me?
No, I’m not sure that it it “outright” evil (Google’s motto is “Don’t be evil” but has come under great criticism lately for seemingly skirting that when it comes to profit making) but amidst rumors that Google might be playing games politically with the results of its searches when it comes to conservative vs progressive issues, this doesn’t optic well.
Eric Schmidt, the former head of Google is buddy-buddy with Obama (which shows his political leanings) and is an avowed Greenie (hates fossil energy companies). His former company, Google,

You NEVAH know when you might have to charge out of bed to defend one’s own and property and find oneself living one of those weird dreams that percolate up from time to time (“Where’s my clothes!”). Betcha this guy wishes a robe had been as close as his sidearm (reformatted, emphasis mine):

“I said, ‘Do you know what I have pointed at you?’ He said, ‘No,’ and I said, ‘Do you want to know?’ and he of course doesn’t respond to that one, so I tell him, ‘Let me explain, I’ve got a .9mm pointed at you with high-velocity hollow points in the chamber,’ and I explained to him what that will do to him if he moves,” Martin said. “He tried to get up once, and I explained again that this was the last time I was going to have this conversation with him, and he stayed on the ground at that point,” Martin said.

My time as a Budget Committee member taught me a lot of lessons – one of which is how each level of government depends on money dropped down from above (or taken from below). Trust me, it is not a small amount of money (and here in NH, it is a Big Boatload at the State level). For years I told our town “watch out – what cannot be sustained will stop” as I watched the Feds borrow themselves into oblivion (and at the time, the Democrats in Concord doing the same thing). In the end, The Piper demands to be paid and local governments started to howl when the money rain they had built into their budget dried up and politicians had to start explaining the effects of having depended on “free money” – and now that “free money” is going to cost dearly. Like now in NY! From Yahoo (reformatted, emphasis mine):

Yesterday, four individuals stopped their vehicle along Interstate 93 North, near the 293/93 fork, parked, unloaded some guns and proceeded to engage in target practice along side the highway, along the area of 1793 Bodwell Road. As Police responded, they discovered the targets had been erected in such a manner that the direction of bullets fired was toward the interstate…where cars…with people were traveling North.

On the matter of Governor Hassan considering Gambling Lobbyist Lucy Hodder as her next Attorney General, the indispensable Ed Mosca provides more fuel for that fire.
How would it not be a violation of at least the spirit of Professional Rule of Misconduct 1.11 for Hodder to be involved with Millennium Gambling as AG; as I read it the spirit of the rule suggests she shouldn’t even be involved as Hassan’s counsel:

Last Monday, Steve Shurtleff wrote an op-ed in advocacy for his bill to repeal stand your ground. He tells several lies, makes completely inaccurate statements and could not cite one case where the law was used by a criminal to avoid prosecution. Shurtleff writes,

I like Laura Ingraham, a Conservative talk show hostess, and I do listen into The Factor when she guest hosts. I had DVR’d the program for a different segment, but this morning upon playing it back, her opening monologue caught my attention even more:

This SHOULD be true: “culture our children are going to inherit is more important that the results of any one election.” The problem for Conservatives, especially Social Conservatives, is that the Progressives ARE making elections all about the culture, that they are playing “Culture Survivor” and we are in the process of getting thrown off the island. I hear calls that “times are changing”, for folks like me to “get over it” or that I am “a Christian bigot”, and that my political Party just wants me to die off (shades of US Rep Grayson of Republicans wanting people to die quickly (although that was in terms of Republicans not wanting Obamacare)) just to take a flock of issues like gay marriage and abortion off the table (or any other issue on which they seemingly can’t articulate a clear message that could persuade even an ant).
The social issues are not merely a political football to be used by grasping politicians seeking to win power.
Yes, but that is how politicians and the rest of the Political Class see it. Power first and then we’ll….do something, sorta. BUT WE HAVE TO WIN! Yeah, winning is nice and winning feels good and winning lets you do things. But THAT is the question! After we pour in all of our money, and all of our effort, and all of our intellectual and spiritual effort, and our votes – what do we get?
Politicians who are already looking for the next election and Republican campaign promises end up having the same expiration dates that Obama’s do. I’ve oft posted about Frank Guinta and his failed votes on the Continuing Resolutions that only spent MORE than before (regardless of promises to cut spending). For a couple of YEARS, I’ve heard the the DC House Republicans say they will cut Obamacare funding – and Constitutionally they CAN as they are the branch of government that starts the appropriation process. Did they cut a DIME out of Obamacare on this last CR? Course not – the Party that proclaims “You can trust us – we’re not Democrats” makes a lie even out of that thin phrase. The very THOUGHT of being blamed for “shutting down government” turns them into statues of stone for a microsecond – my GOSH, I might get booted from office!
They really do establish the framework for the many aspects of American life, from our schools to our churches to our families.
