Why Was the Issue of Taxpayer-Funded Abortions Included in the Coronavirus Relief Bill?

What do taxpayer-funded abortions have to do with the coronavirus relief bill?

The Daily Caller is reporting that senior White House officials say Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sought to include a surprise in the coronavirus relief bill. It would guarantee federal funding for abortion services.

Nancy doesn’t care about coronavirus victims

Didn’t Pelosi characterize coronavirus as a pandemic? Aren’t pandemics serious threats? Why then, is she indulging in partisan political maneuvering for abortions in a bill for funding for coronavirus response?
The attempt was made during negotiations with the administration regarding a coronavirus economic relief package.

Don’t we all understand Democrat leadership at this point? Yet we continue to see them address all manner of partisan party politics. It happens even above the priorities of the safety and security of the nation. The officials claim the Speaker attempted to lobby for “several” provisions. The attempt made it more difficult to reach a bipartisan working group.

Her talks were with U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin. Among Pelosi’s demands was $1 billion to reimburse laboratory claims. White House officials say approval of this would create a precedent of health spending circumventing a federal ban on taxpayer-sponsored abortions. The ban, known as the Hyde Amendment, does not allow clinics or medical centers that perform abortion services to receive federal dollars.

Nancy wants to run an abortion slush fund

A White House staffer told the Daily Caller, “A new mandatory funding stream that does not have Hyde protections would be unprecedented… Under the guise of protecting people… Speaker Pelosi is working to make sure taxpayer dollars are spent covering abortion … which is not only backward but goes against historical norms.”

Pelosi’s provision was described as a “slush fund” by another White House official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to the Daily Caller. Another questioned the logic of the House Speaker’s condition: “What the Hyde Amendment and abortion have to do with protecting Americans from coronavirus?”

In a tweet, Planned Parenthood attacked Republicans. Their complaint: they want the Hyde Amendment included in the coronavirus relief bill: “Using this very real public health emergency to attack abortion coverage shows a despicable lack of concern about the severity of this crisis.”

Who knows if or when a coronavirus bill will be passed

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy pushed back against the Democrats’ bill. He indicates he wants the legislation re-written. That should happen within the next 24 to 48 hours. It remains unclear when the coronavirus economic relief package will be brought to the floor. It is therefore uncertain when the Senate will receive it or if the Senate will support it.

It’s kind of hard to understand why when this is a measure about which the Democrats have made so much noise. They talk as though they actually care about its passage. If they care about the people why then, would they subject such a high priority to petty partisanship? I do not understand. Chris Pappas, can you explain? How about you Annie Kuster? You talk the talk but you do not walk the walk.

According to Politico, Republican and Democratic leaders did eventually resolve the issue concerning the Hyde Amendment provision. The matter will receive a vote as part of a different bill. President Donald Trump indicates he would sign any coronavirus relief package brought to his desk. But what do taxpayer-funded abortions have to do with the coronavirus relief bill? Ask Chris Pappas and Annie Kuster.
