Endorsing Violent Death?

Snowflake writes anti gun-rant. Rick Olson writes scathing take-down of snowflake. Snowflake has to take down his blog and make it by invitation only. We talk about the rant and Rick’s response, and Rick has a shout-out to the City of Concord that is not to be missed.

Senator Andrew ‘Half-Baked’ Hosmer

When a State Senator called a female activist’s statements about the right to self defense “half-baked” we took him to task in print at GraniteGrok.  When Saturday rolled around it was only natural that we would continue to have fun at his expense on the podcast.

Gun Appreciation Day - Concord
The UN does want to come and take them

It has been a bit since I put one of these stories where a gun helped to save a good guy against some bad guys (who also had guns), but given that 60 nations have just signed the UN Small Arms Treaty (sending US Secretary of State John “Lurch” Kerry into a paroxysm of joy that Obama said he was going to sign it), it is good to point out that most often, guns are used to protect the good folk (as opposed to just be used by those that would commit malfeasance):

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Fort Wayne police say a man fatally shot a man who tried to rob him outside his home.

Police say the intended victim was standing on or near his porch Saturday night when he was approached by two men who tried to rob him. However, the man was armed with a handgun and fired several rounds, striking one of the would-be robbers several times while the second fled on foot.

The intended victim called police immediately to report the exchange of gunfire. He was shot in the foot and was in good condition Sunday at a hospital.

Police said the robber who was shot was pronounced dead at the scene and that a weapon was recovered near his body.

Police didn’t release the names of the men who were shot.

They should.  And as rapidly as possible.  And as for the dead robber, a lesson: Thou Shalt Not Covet.   Else you get Covered (up, as in body bag).

So, how would you suggest that she Run Away, Deputy Dawg “HB135” Shurtleff?

No, she was not in public but thought she was securely in her home, was she Mr. “Let the Professionals take care of your security” Shurtleff.  Until, that is, there’s no one around.  Seconds and minutes (emphasis mine, reformatted):

JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. (CBS Seattle) — An Oregon woman was told by a 911 dispatcher that authorities wouldn’t be able be able to help her as her ex-boyfriend broke into her place because of budget cuts… Her call was forwarded to Oregon State Police because of lay-offs at the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office only allows the department to be open Monday through Friday.  “Uh, I don’t have anybody to send out there,” the 911 dispatcher told the woman. “You know, obviously, if he comes inside the residence and assaults you, can you ask him to go away? Do you know if he’s intoxicated or anything?”

The woman told the dispatcher that Bellah previously attacked her and left her hospitalized a few weeks prior to the latest incident. The dispatcher stayed on the phone with the woman for more than 10 minutes before the sexual assault took place. “Once again it’s unfortunate you guys don’t have any law enforcement out there,” the dispatcher said, according to Oregon Public Radio.  The woman responded: “Yeah, it doesn’t matter, if he gets in the house I’m done.”

Joe ‘Bear’den. “If it only saves One (Bears) Life…”

Progressives of all party stripes love to tell us from one side of their mouths that government needs to do these things for the good of the people while from the other side insisting that their detractors are insane fear-mongers for thinking it (whatever the thing we need to do is) will ever escalate to the absurdities opponents claim.

I'm here from Massachusetts Dept of Environmental Services to inspect your yard for bear bait. Please curl up into a ball on the ground.
I’m here from Massachusetts Dept of Environmental Services to inspect your yard for bear bait. Please curl up into a ball on the ground.

As proof that the progressives are full of whatever it is they are shoveling, I give you Massachusetts.

Seventy-six year old Richard Ahlstrand heard a disturbance in his yard at his home in Auburn Massachusetts.  His first mistake? He went to investigate…

Reason:  (c/o Hot Air)

Richard Ahlstrand, of Auburn, Massachusetts, faces criminal charges after encountering a bear in his back yard and shooting the damned thing to avoid being mauled or eaten. Specifically, as noted at Reason 24/7, he’s charged with “illegally killing a bear, illegally baiting a bear, illegal possession of a firearm and failure to secure a firearm.”  All of these charges, once translated from Massachusetts to American, seem to stack up to outrage that Ahlstrand didn’t make his yard completely inhospitable to animals that are rarely seen in the area, and then investigated a suspicious noise with a weapon in hand rather than cower under the bed. Worst of all, he actually defended himself when he encountered danger.

Life Imitates Democrat legislation

I was just reading Scott’s post about the chickens of modern day feminism coming home to roost and it occurred to me;  the video of the young man that dodged the ball that then modified the face of  his date is a perfect example of how the left wants us all to behave.

I’ll call this “Life imitates Democrat legislation.”  Do tell?

A Majority of New Hampshire House Democrats and (three Republicans), just voted to ensconce into state statute the very thing that this young man just did by voting to repeal stand your ground.  If you can retreat…do so. He did. She took it right in the face.

The progressives don’t want you to take responsibility.  They do not want you to exercise your judgment.  You are not allowed to think.  Run away!  Someone from the government will get there just as soon as they can.

NH House Vote To Repeal Stand Your Ground (HB 135) is Today

Oh_No_Guns_White

Update [-Skip]:  The NH House just voted to pass HB135 which means that you must flee from danger instead of asserting your Right to Self-Defense.  From the House Republican Alliance:

“We are saddened but not surprised by the passage of HB135, which removes a person’s right to defend oneself. The passage of this politically motivated bill strips away the rights of citizens to stand their ground and protect themselves, others and their property if threatened where ever they have a right to be,” stated Representative Al Baldasaro, HRA co-chair. “Every citizen has a constitutional right to defend themselves and this blatant attempt at political correctness is a disservice to our constituents.”

*****

We’ve pretty much chopped down a digital forest discussing HB 135, the effort to solve a non-problem in pursuit of an ideological fear-campaign with no evidence to support it.  So much so that I can’t begin to find all of the articles and posts.  But here is a “short” list of content we’ve put out in the last two months on the bill, the idea, and the moonbat behind it all.  If you feel the need to find more just search HB135 (without a space between HB and 135), or search ‘Shurtleff’ or ‘Stephen Shurtleff,’ or even ‘Deputy Dawg.’

Get your fill of HB135 Shurtleff link juice on the jump.

So, Obama’s Dept of Homeland Security wants our Police Departments to be without ammo?

“We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

– President Obama, Colorado, July 2, 2008

When he first uttered those words, it seemed that only a few of us on the Right read those words and went “WHAT?”.  After all, we were starting to learn about his connections to the New Left and other people holding Progressive to Marxist philosophies (what, like there’s much of a difference?).  At the time, many on the Left, trying to be Obama apologists, went on and on about the intent was to increase programs like Vista and Americorps….and then it went dead.  Then Gabby Gifford, Aurora, and Sandy Hook hit.

For quite some time, civilian shooters were finding ammo and guns hard to get – first, thinking that an incipient gun ban was going to be pushed through during Obama’s first term and then again near and right after November’s election, with people truly believing that NOW he would start his ban.  After all, Progressives have this visceral hatred of both guns – and people who believe they have the right to defend themselves.  After all, their reasoning goes, we all give up certain Rights to Government to have a government and they believe that one of them is our fundamental Right to defend ourselves, families, and property.   As debra Saunders at Real Clear Politics puts it:

Support ‘Stand Your Ground’ In New Hampshire [Updated]

[Updated] For those who are not interested in using the original petition site reported below (SignOn.org), I have created a separate petition on a different site.  I used the exact same language as the original.

New Hampshire Democrats have been doing their best to roll back, repeal, or undo anything and everything the last (Republican) legislature did.  The most recent effort is to repeal stand your ground (HB 135).  Stand your ground gives law abiding citizens the right to defend themselves, their friends, family, even total strangers, from a violent assault anywhere they have a right to be.

Democrats would rather you retreat “if you can,” presuming you have that option, are not responsible for the safety of your husband, wife, kids, friends, or a group of children, not all of whom may be able to retreat with you.
