Guest Post by Phyllis Woods – Preserving Traditional Marriage

wedding rings

This past Tuesday, several hundred supporters of traditional marriage assembled at the State Capital in support of HB 437.    NH Speaker of the House Bill O’Brien spoke in favor of the bill  and candidate for NH Governor Ovide Lamontagne were also present.  In support of the rally, Phyllis spoke at the rally; her remarks are below.

The Republican platform highlights the importance of preserving traditional marriage.  We’ve been at the forefront of protecting traditional marriage laws, both in the states and in Congress and a Republican congress enacted the Defense of Marriage Act. Our platform calls for a constitutional amendment that fully protects marriage as a union of a man and a woman.

To deconstruct the very nature of the most foundational institution of our culture is not in the best interests of our society.  This sentiment is embodied in our Republican National platform – a platform of enduring principle…..not passing convenience, one that rests on proven truths and tested wisdom.

No society at any time, ancient or modern – has ever raised a generation of children in same-sex homes. We are embarked on a social experiment without any idea how the next generation will be affected. We recognize the importance of having in the home a father and a mother who are married as the ideal, best environment for children. Our New Hampshire platform mirrors these sentiments. We realize that the family’s most important function is to raise the next generation of Americans. . We believe it’s vital to protect marriages and families as the central core in society for enhancing morality, integrity and responsibility.

GrokTV Event: Ovide Lamontagne Reception – Mike Rogers (host)

Mike Rogers (Grokster!) decided that he also wanted to speak on Ovide’s behalf (and why not, it was his event!) and made it clear that Ovide is his choice for NH Governor:

There was also one other speaker at the event: Nancy Elliot (after the jump):

GrokTV Event: Reception for Ovide Lamontagne (candidate for Republican nomination for NH Gov) – Honoree, Ovide Lamontagne

Well, if the reception was for Ovide Lamontagne (thrown by Grokster Mike and Mar-Mar Rogers), it would be great and fitting  for Ovide to speak, and indeed, he did.  Topics centered on his background, his guiding philosophies, and how he would carry out the duties and responsibilities of NH Governor:

GrokTV Event: Reception for Ovide Lamontagne (candidate for Republican nomination for NH Gov) – Keynote Speaker, Jack Kimball

Following on the heels of the Intro Ceremonies and speech by Sandra Zimm, ‘Grok (and personal) friend, Jack Kimball, was the Keynote speaker of the night. Previously having endorsed Ovide, he gave one of his classic stemwinder of a speech:

GrokTV Event: Reception for Ovide Lamontagne (candidate for Republican nomination for NH Gov) – the video

Last night, GraniteGrok went to the reception for Ovide Lamontagne.  It is our understanding that about 80 odd folks had RSVP’d but by my count, over 160 were in the room as the evening’s proceedings played out.  The downside to trying to live stream the event was that Windows 7 just would not attach to the WiFi at the hotel (as usual with all things Microsoft, reboots fixes most all ills).  The upside is DaTechGuy showed up with his lovely bride so we were able to have some chit-chat in between everything (and we did a bit of a GrokTALK! commentary which I will post later once I process the audio from the evening.  He also posted up some pictures and interviews here (even got my good side!).

Jeff Chidester served as the Master of Ceremonies for the evening – and given he is a political activist himself, he can always add “commentary quips” that most cannot.  In this clip, NH State Senator Jim Luther gave the invocation, Di Lothrup lead us all in the Pledge, and the Peters children played their violins “My Country ‘Tis of Thee”:

One of the speakers in favor of Ovide’s candidacy was Sandra Ziehm – video after the jump:

GrokTALK! Special Interview: Ovide Lamontagne (candidate for Republican nomination for NH Gov)

As is my practice when I go to most political events, I ask a number of folks that I know to “stop on by” when I have set up all the equipment and can do either a live stream, a recorded video, or an audio interview.  Heck, I will talk to anyone!  And at last … Read more

Newt at Ovide’s May 25, 2011

At Ovide Lamontagne’s home last night Newt Gingrich gave a classic Newt talk to about 75 guests and about 10 representatives of the media.
He made fairly brief introductory remarks, took about 15 – 20 questions from guests and about five from the media.  Then he walked around meeting people and answering questions individually.  As far as I could tell everyone had a chance to meet and ask Newt their questions.

Newt demonstrated his unparalleled knowledge of the issues, reminded us of his record of spending cuts and welfare reform as Speaker of the House, and demonstrated self confidence based on his time fighting the fight and his years of observation, investigation, and consideration of our nation’s problems.

What The…?

Did anyone happen to notice the names bandied about in this Weeks Granite Status for the job of New Hampshire GOP state chairman? John DiStaso mentions Jim Bender again, who I was told is not as interested as people think (always subject to change depeneding on whom you are speaking to); Jennifer Horn–who is getting nudged by the more conservative/libretarian elements along with Ovide Lamontagne who was an early favorite with the new Republicans; and then there’s Juliana Bergeron and Jim Foley–both of whom are (as far as I can tell) from the Fergus Cullen wing of the party.

Ovide at American Thinker

At this critical time, we must subordinate our personal self-interest to that of the greater good, which is to restore the power of people over government, to break the stranglehold of the special interests and the entitlement class over Congress, and to devolve power from Washington back to the states and the people. The unprincipled, self-serving actions of Murkowski and Crist threaten these important goals, and they must be rejected by Republican leaders and activists everywhere.

Primary Night (scratch that) “Morning After” Update

The initial indications showing Frank Guinta with the lead have continued as the evening has developed but the race tightened with Rich Ashooh closing to withing a small percentage.  In the end Guinta prevailed with Sean Mahoney–who conceded early coming in third place. The Ovide/Kelly race is so close it still has not been called. … Read more

Choir Practice

CNHTListening to twenty or so people give political speeches in succession may well be worse than being water-boarded. Listening to twenty or so political speeches in an air-conditioned room with close to 300 people who (more or less) are on board with just about everything that is likely to be said at that kind of event is choir practice. But having that kind of access to that many candidates for three hours is priceless.

That is the CNHT annual picnic, in a nutshell–plus an all you can eat buffet of picnic fare, with P.J. Rourke as a guest speaker right in the middle of it all. From noon to three today, at the VFW hall in Hillsborough New Hampshire, the 12th annual Coalition of New Hampshire Taxpayers picnic attracted dozens of candidates for every level of office and hundreds of people who were looking for an opportunity to meet and talk to the candidates who want to represent them. It’s like a House party for every candidate all at once, and if you missed it you missed a chance to get personal attention in a very important election year.
