During the week of Veterans Day (and Memorial Day) ALL New Hampshire PUBLIC SCHOOLS are required to teach the children the “words, meaning, and history” of the Pledge of Allegiance and The National Anthem. Many school teachers and administrators don’t know this is state law.

Memorial Day Remembrance
Memorial Day
Memorial Day is that time of year where we remember those who gave their lives to purchase the freedoms that so many have squandered today. For many Memorial day is merely a long weekend where we enjoy the onset of summer weather (not so much). However, for others of us, Memorial Day is a reminder of the holes and voids in our families. Entire family trajectories and futures changed by the ravages of war.
In Particular, The story of Private Edward “Ned” Wells Allord, Husband to Priscilla and 28-year-old father of three girls from Jaffrey New Hampshire. Drafted into the U.S. Army, Ned Allord faithfully and dutifully reported for duty when his country called. Leaving behind his three young daughters, Priscilla, Katherine, and the youngest Dorothy, Ned Allord went to war.
Sunday Overnight Thread – Remember Memorial Day Edition
My Grandfather fought in WWI, my dad in WWII. They both came home, lived to talk about it. And while I have no specific recollection of stories of friends or comrades lost, it would be impossible for that not to have occurred, and we need to remember.
The Friday Overnight Thread – “Dead” Palestinian Gets Up and Runs Away Edition
It’s raining here. A lot. For a while. Not “time to build an ark” “awhile” but all night and most of Saturday. And we’ll take it. But that means you have some time on your hands and (oh, look!) we have idle amusements with which to occupy you.
Less than half of Americans know the true meaning behind Memorial Day
Sad, really sad. Saw this at Instapundit: I DON’T KNOW WHAT THEY TEACH IN PUBLIC SCHOOL. I KNOW IT’S NOT ANYTHING WORTH KNOWING: Most Americans have no clue why we celebrate Memorial Day. Going to the link (reformatted, emphasis mine): Less than half of Americans know the true meaning behind Memorial Day, according to a new … Read more
Memorial Day 2020
As we approach Memorial Day, I am once again compelled to remind myself (and others) of the purpose and meaning of this sacred holiday. After the Civil War ended, friends and family would visit the graves of those killed in the war and would decorate them, as a means of remembering and honoring their sacrifice. … Read more
A most sobering thought

NH Forest Rangers Want to Check Your Wood
People who pay attention to such things are predicting a record Memorial Day Weekend for tourism in New Hampshire. Not that this is anything new. The Granite State has experienced year after year of tourism growth in contradiction to more than a decade of fearmongering by Climate Cultists that global warming would ruin the industry.
So, a note to the undeterred tourists. If you plan to bring your campfire “supplies,” New Hampshire forest rangers want to check out your wood.
The sacrifice of a Warrior
“No one desires Peace more than the Warriors and their families for they know the true cost of war”
Memorial Day – a different perspective from me
In years past for me, it has been about those who gave all, as Grokster Steve points out here. That simple drawing shows the gratitude for all the sacrifices that millions have given to our country, to us, and to me personally. I have, as I have explained here many times, never served, so I … Read more
Memorial Day, Liberty-&-Freedom, and the military draft
The quote below is from an article in today’s Union Leader by Vietnam Navy veteran Jim Adams (he was in the Navy and in Vietnam around the same time I was in the Marines in Vietnam):
“In 1940, as World War II loomed, Republican presidential candidate Wendell Willkie gave his support to his opponent — Franklin Roosevelt — in his push for a peacetime draft. Later in life, Willkie remarked that on his epitaph, he would rather have that he “contributed to freedom” than that he was a President.” But wait….
Memorial Day – a time of remembrance and reflection.
There are two images that always come to mind on Memorial Day: (Photo credits: Todd Heisler/The Rocky Mountain News, via Associated Press, unknown) (H/T: NY Times, BlackFive) They are concrete examples of two sacrifices: the man that put himself into harm’s way for his country and for his buddies and sacrificed himself for them, and … Read more
