Why are so many Democrats shocked when a Republican is elected president? Because, as they themselves say, they “don’t know anyone” who voted for the Republican. The primary reason for this is the people in their life who voted for Donald Trump — professional colleagues, and even friends and relatives — are afraid to tell them.

Sadly, this treatment works in a much broader sense to advance liberal narratives and often promote progressive policies, especially at the local level “where get out the vote” means find ways to keep your opposition at home, so they win by default.

I think that the entirety of the modern American Left’s agenda can be summarized in the words of Theodore Dalrymple, who notes,

The totalitarian impulse did not die with the Soviet Union, but rather fractured into many different monomanias. The freedom that many people desire is the freedom to limit other people’s freedom, which they find much more gratifying than the mere expression of their own opinion, which has at most the effect of throwing a pebble into a pond, causing a ripple that soon disappears and is forgotten. Are Modern Liberals Arrogant, Intolerant, Moral Authoritarians Trapped in Their Own Freak Show?

The short answer to the question in the headline is yes. Yes, they are. How Liberals got there from their 60’s roots is the subject of an article in the Wall StreetJournal by Shelby Steele titled The Exhaustion of American Liberalism. He is a bit kinder in his pronouncement, but we see connecting lines in his thesis to the foundation and expansions of the disconnected political class explored in other works like Angelo Codevilla’s Ruling Class v. Country Class and The Flight 93 Election by Publius Decius Mus.

We are speaking of people with little or no connection to any reality outside the political worldview they have constructed for themselves and the future it pretends. A class whose vitriolic intolerance for anyone who objects to being ruled in this way has taken on a cartoon-like madness.

Liberal Policies have caused enough Deaths

How many more innocent lives are Progressives/Liberals/Democrats willing to sacrifice to further their political goals of controlling people and making them dependent on government?

While Democrat gun control proposals in Washington and Concord wouldn’t have stopped the Newtown massacre, they would make it more difficult for law abiding citizens to defend themselves from assault, rape, robbery, murder and other crimes.

Similar delusional Democrat policies, e.g., their counter-productive “Gun Free Zones” and highly restrictive gun controls that leave people defenseless, have already sacrificed far too many children and adults.

Carolyn McCarthy’s legislation introduced in July of last year, a bill to make the sale of ammunition “safer for law-abiding Americans”  who are sick and tired of the ease with which criminals can now anonymously stockpile ammunition for [sic] mass murder.

Ready or not, the refugees are coming

The state’s refugee resettlement program is expected to spread from Manchester to Nashua in the coming weeks, with 50 refugees headed toward the Gate City. Officials in both cities are expressing concern over the plans.

“I was talking about my concerns with the head of the International Institute, and the next communication I have from them is to say that they (the refugees) are coming, and we’ve found housing for them,” said Nashua Mayor Donnalee Lozeau. “I asked, ‘Where? When? Who’s coming? Are there any children?’ No one has any answers. The concerns I raised were real ones, and I feel like they weren’t addressed at all.”

The International Institute of New Hampshire (IINH) has been working for months to resettle another 200 refugees in Manchester, despite a sometimes frosty relationship with city officials. Mayor Ted Gatsas wrote a letter in 2011 to the U.S. State Department, which oversees the refugee program, faulting its “complete and utter lack of consideration for the local resettlement community.”
