Words of Wisdom – And Now He Can Apply it to Himself

This Letter to the Editor appeared a while ago and yes, I am late on reporting on it – a snippet from it with emphasis by me: …a once seemingly rational and even-handed politician has become visibly shaken and filled with apparent rage. It begs the question of those of us witnessing this sudden sea-change: … Read more

A new arrow has been added to the Citizen’s quiver: make’em pay!

NH Right To KnowWe here at the ‘Grok have used RTK requests( NH’s RSA 91-A, the Right To Know law which is better known elsewhere as FOIA – Freedom Of Information Act) a few times in the past (Richard De Seve, the DES employee blogging on NH taxpayer dime, getting emails from the NH Water Commission that is looking to revoke private water rights) and we have a new project coming up soon.  I have also used this in my own town, and have given advice to others trying to get information from recalcitrant public officials and department at town, county, and State level.

One thing we have ALL found out is that when these recalcitrants decide to truly be recalcitrant (as in “Who do these subject believe themselves to be?  You’ll get it IF I feel like it and when I get around to it”), there was little recourse that the normal citizen had except to take their valuable time and spend their hard earned cash to sue in court to get data that they have already paid for via their taxes.  Elected officials and bureaucrats could just wait them out or stymie the requestors by withholding data – without worrying about any consequences .

BUT! not any MORE!  Thanks to Bob Guida, who had a hand in HB 1223, Citizens now have a way to make Big Government come to heel come January:

Primary Night (scratch that) “Morning After” Update

The initial indications showing Frank Guinta with the lead have continued as the evening has developed but the race tightened with Rich Ashooh closing to withing a small percentage.  In the end Guinta prevailed with Sean Mahoney–who conceded early coming in third place. The Ovide/Kelly race is so close it still has not been called. … Read more

Just Tell Them To Kiss Your ….Donkey

Kiss My...A few weeks ago the NHDP mounted what they would call (if a Republican did it)a smear campaign.  It was against Bob Guida, and it was for being honest.  I know, that’s probably what threw them but that’s not why they dropped the arugula or spilled their latte in a mad dash for the keyboard.  Bob, bless his heart, had the gall to suggest that “Marriage Equality" was the root of all evil, and also said that single mothers were the result of a breakdown of marriage.

That’s Bob’s opinion.  How refreshing.

Meanwhile, the digital ditch diggers and ditch fillers over at the NHDP–proper Keynesian’s that they are–felt the need to dust off an old standard (not terribly forwarding looking or progressive of them by the way) and wave it in the direction of Mr. Guida.  It’s the "we demand an apology" and "the GOP should denounce this or they are all agreeing with it" meme.   In response, the GOP and Mr. Guida did almost exactly the right thing.  They paid almost no attention whatsoever.

So why bring it back up?  Because they didn’t do ‘exactly the right thing.’

Choir Practice

CNHTListening to twenty or so people give political speeches in succession may well be worse than being water-boarded. Listening to twenty or so political speeches in an air-conditioned room with close to 300 people who (more or less) are on board with just about everything that is likely to be said at that kind of event is choir practice. But having that kind of access to that many candidates for three hours is priceless.

That is the CNHT annual picnic, in a nutshell–plus an all you can eat buffet of picnic fare, with P.J. Rourke as a guest speaker right in the middle of it all. From noon to three today, at the VFW hall in Hillsborough New Hampshire, the 12th annual Coalition of New Hampshire Taxpayers picnic attracted dozens of candidates for every level of office and hundreds of people who were looking for an opportunity to meet and talk to the candidates who want to represent them. It’s like a House party for every candidate all at once, and if you missed it you missed a chance to get personal attention in a very important election year.
