Today, on the Morning Update, Canada has been ripping us off for years, so the latest trade spat with the Great White North includes renaming the lake formerly known (on our side) as Ontario. How could I not do a Morning Update about that?

Welcome to your Monday, August 31st, 2026. Morning update. Mr. Trump is having an alleged trade war with Canada, and part of the fun is Trump being Trump. He has renamed our half of Lake Ontario, Lake America.

Canadians, well, they took it the way you’d expect. At least the elites did.
Quote: Canadian officials reacted in polite fury as though Trump had renamed hockey warm football. Prime Minister Mark Carney declared that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario, then, now, and always. Ontario Premier Doug Ford said it would remain Lake Ontario now and forever. Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston called the whole thing real foolishness and added with a sniff of supercilious dignity it’s Lake Ontario, buddy.
Well, actually, it’s like whatever we want to call it. And on the subject of trade, tonight on GrokTALK! I’m gonna be digging through some third-party introspection into the whole trade situation with Canada because it’s justified that Mr. Trump has stepped up and hiked tariffs on certain things beginning at the first of next year. Canada has literally been ripping us off. And that’s important news for you to have and details for you to share whenever somebody engages you in the conversation. Canada has been ripping us off, especially here in New Hampshire. And since New Hampshire Democrats like to talk about how bad tariffs are for New Hampshire citizens, how about we talk about why this is actually necessary and will probably make things better in the long run.

Quote: Canada’s own federal naming authority says geographical names change with evolving societal perspectives of coexistence and boasts that unpronounceable indigenous names are being restored wherever possible. Manitoba approved 117 tongue-twisting indigenous place names in a single year. Nunavut approved 625 in one region the next year. Queen Charlotte Islands became Haida Gwaii; Cape Dorset became Kinngait; Hall Beach became Sanirajak. Mount Higgins became Jùuk’an. I’m sure I’m pronouncing these all wrong, by the way, but what can I tell you? And Squaw’s Tit became Anû Kathâ Îpa. Anû Kathâ Îpa Anu Anû Kathâ Îpa.
I could go on it reads, at great length, but I’ve reached my limit on trying to type all the weird letters.
So it’s obviously okay to rename things.
In fact, it’s okay to rename them en masse whenever the urge strikes you, for whatever reason you choose to express.
More from Jeff Childers. Quote here at home, thanks to Progressives Progressive Thinking. Washington’s football team became the Commanders. Cleveland’s Indians became the Guardians. Aunt Jemima Syrup became Pearl Mining Company, transforming a familiar breakfast topping into something that sounds like a Delaware subsidiary manufacturing ball bearings for municipal grain elevators. I should add that.
Barry Obama’s name replaced the existing monikers of schools and roads. They renamed Mount McKinley Denali, which I confess I like better just because it sounds more interesting. But that’s not the point. The people who don’t like you renaming things, who like to rename things, are a little miffed. The point, of course, is that renaming things is a left-wing obsession.
And refusing to acknowledge the changes (is) dead naming, their rules.
Rub it in their face every chance you get.
That’s it for today. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
