When the National School Boards Association sent a letter to the United States Attorney General making a comparison of parents to domestic terrorists I knew that would backfire. You can’t fire off shots at a mama bear who is defending her cubs.

So About That DEMAND NH State Rep Jan Schmidt Issued?
The DEMAND was that we take down the image of her daughter who had threatened a Conservative on Facebook (and either Facebook agreed and took it down or was deleted as it did seem like an imminent threat – as in END THIS WOMAN”):
A Study in Contrast: Heartfelt apology vs “EXTORTION!” NH State Rep Jan Schmidt does not disappoint
On one hand we have someone that returned to offer a heartfelt apology; it wasn’t asked for, nor sought out. And it was offered to those directly affected. It didn’t have to be offered – but it was. Nothing was asked for in return – it was a gracious exchange. And on the other hand, … Read more
UPDATE: Karen Costura-Hoffman: A perfect example that apologies are good for the soul.
…That being said, instead of maturely offering my perspective on why I felt the way I did, I hurled some rather distasteful insults toward those who happened to disagree with me, including Skip. I apologize to him and to anyone else I upset. UPDATE: Karen sent in her apology – it is below in full. … Read more
Meadowstone Farm Apologizes (For Violating NH Election Law)
Earlier this week we reported, with images, a blatant violation of New Hampshire election law. Meadowstone Farm posted pictures on Instagram (which they quickly removed) depicting cut up campaign signs. The proprietor has apologized formally on their business website. I would first like to apologize to the Northern Grafton County Republicans, especially those whose signs … Read more
Apologies, apologies – both show the rot in our culture…and both involve Obama
Obama Apologizes to California AG for Complimenting Her Appearance
“President Obama has apologized to California attorney general Kamala Harris for calling her the nation’s “best looking” attorney general at a California fundraiser yesterday, according to White House press secretary Jay Carney.
“He called her to apologize for the distraction created by his comments,” said Carney. “He did not want in any way to diminish the attorney general’s professional accomplishments or her capabilities.” He added that the president “fully recognizes the challenges women continue to face in the workplace and that they should not be judged based on appearance.”
…His remarks caused a stir among feminists and others upset that the president commented on Harris’s appearance.”
We were not a family of means growing up but my brother and I were taught and expected to know our manners and know how to behave both in public and in private so as not to embarrass either ourselves or worse, Mom. Yes, I grew up in what I consider now to be a much more chivalrous time when it wasn’t out of the ordinary to hold a door open for a lady, regardless of age, to seat a lady first before taking my seat at dinner, to hold the use of cruder words / jokes for times “with the boys”, to show manners, and complementing the ladies was an ordinary occurrence (or, expected at some types of events). While just being polite was a large part of it, it was NOT as many feminists seem to believe…
A correction on the Republican vote on HB617 (the gas tax hike)
I was just sent this by a loyal reader (emphasis mine): Skip, you had a fact wrong in your blog about Jennifer and the stupid committee vote. You included the minority leader. Chandler did not vote; he had to be elsewhere. Two days earlier he had signed in opposition to the bill. Your larger point … Read more
An apology and a retraction
Our official motto is “Spank’em when they’re wrong and Thank’em when they’re right”. That can be applied to ourselves as well (as well as it should). We try to get all of our facts rights. With GraniteGrok closing in on 10,300 posts, we pretty much get it right almost all of the time. Almost. This … Read more
