COMPLETE REPUDIATION: PRO-GUN CANDIDATE WINS GABBY GIFFORDS’ FORMER HOUSE SEAT

For those that don’t remember, Gabby Giffords was the Democrat CongressCritter that was shot in the head by a mentally ill person – and yes, a tragedy.  Her husband, former astronaut Mark Kelly, formed an anti-gun group called Americans for Responsible Solutions and spent millions this election cycle supporting other anti-Second Amendment candidates – but ended up with very little to show in the end. Even after her event, Newtown, Aurora, and the gun free college zones, the message did not resonate well at all.   For a Conservative Pro-Second Amendment Republican to have taken her former seat, man, complete wipe-out:

On December 17, pro-Second Amendment candidate Martha McSally (R) was officially declared the winner in the race for Arizona’s second congressional district over pro-gun control Representative Ron Barber (D-AZ-2.). Arizona’s second district is gun control proponent Gabby Giffords’ former seat and the contest she campaigned hardest for during the months prior to the November 4 mid-term elections.

A Letter from a reader to NH US Senator Kelly Ayotte

Senator Ayotte:

I’d like to remind you that the NH State motto, the state you purport to represent, is “Live Free Or Die”.  Live Free from the tyranny of Government, not without government, but with the liberty of the people.  Taking more and more of my hard earned income is a form of tyranny; it curtails my ability to provide for my family and makes it harder for me to secure my family’s liberty.

I wish that instead of being concerned about missing “The Nutcracker” you had been concerned enough to read the bill before you passed it; for that, I thank you for finally showing your true concerns.  Your pattern of voting has made it clear to me that you do not stand for conservative principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility and individual liberty.  Your voting and rhetoric clearly indicates that you wish to consolidate more power in the Federal Government, taking it away from the individuals.

Ah yes – did Kelly Ayotte decide that fidelity to her oath to “preserve and protect the US Constitution” was important enough and stay in DC to help some of the few Republicans that decided that the defending the Constitution was THE point of the CRomnibus vote?  And defending the Senate’s role in that Obama and his )  ?  No, she threw a hissy fit because she actually had to work over a weekend:

“I think this is ridiculous,” Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), who had already returned to New Hampshire with plans to “to see The Nutcracker with her daughter this weekend,” told Politico.

(yes, Steve quoted this as well)  Aw, poor lady (“poor” at $174,000/year paid by us) – sorry, I don’t care if you are in the “opposition party” to Harry Reid; you all failed to do the job we sent you to do (pass a real budget and do it on time) so stop whining.  You all had ONE job to do and failed to get it done.  Stop the kvetching or resign and let someone else go and do the job.  But while the above quote was written before the CRomnibus vote (WHICH now we know she voted for), now you can go ahead and ask her something else.

Conservative HQ

The Republican establishment has become infected with a new viral epidemic of “Ted Cruz derangement syndrome” apparently brought on by being forced to actually work at the job of being a United States Senator.

“Patient Zero” in this epidemic may be New Hampshire Republican Senator Kelly Ayotte who complained bitterly before last weekend’s rare Saturday session to debate the Cruz – Lee constitutional point of order on the “CRomnibus” that it interfered with her plans to go home and watch a performance of the holiday classic the Nutcracker.

Ayotte, by the way, has an F score of 44% on Conservative Review’s Liberty Score, compared to Cruz’s score of 95% and Mike Lee’s score of 100%.

Yeah, but we got that sunscreen bill passed.  FREEDOM!

Let’s see how this attempt at a pre-set coronation works out here in “retail politics” New Hampshire:

Although the specifics are still hazy, The New York Times reports that a group of deep-pocketed Republican donors and bundlers has hatched a plan to clear the GOP field of all insurgents to make room for a favored “establishment” candidate—preferably Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, or Mitt Romney. But there can only be one.

For the first time in decades, the Republican Party is facing a wide-open primary with up to a dozen serious candidates representing virtually every branch of the party. Republican leaders, hoping to minimize damage to their eventual standard-bearer, have already sought to compress the formal primary season and reduce the number of candidate debates.

So once again, does the GOP want to alienate its activist base?  I keep saying it but will they listen: we may not win but you will lose.  How can one expect to win when the strategy is to cut out the most motivated voters in the Party?  And do it well in advance in such a way that the “now on hair trigger” Conservatives can truly say “See!  We were right”.  And rather than “You have made them not care“, they may well turn it into “You have made them fighting mad”.

Washington Democrats and Republicans just passed a budget that rewards the special interests at the expense of the American people.  Senators Ayotte and Shaheen and Congresswoman Kuster voted for the special interests.  Congresswoman Shea-Porter voted for the people over the special interests.

The budget was created by the political party establishments, including President Obama, Speaker Boehner, and Majority Leader Reid, and special interest groups.  The 1600 plus page document is heavy with pork, favors for supporters, and support for wasteful, ineffective, and unpopular programs.

In an unbelievable act of betrayal of the American people, this budget puts taxpayers back on the hook for potentially trillions of dollars of losses incurred by the big banks.  Congress repealed the Dodd-Frank provision that prevented banks from gambling with taxpayer insured money, a factor in the 2008 financial meltdown.

This budget deal denied the recently elected Senators and Congressmen the opportunity to start fixing the problems, created by current and previous Congresses, that the voters sent them to address.

Rumor has it that Republican National Committee-woman Julianna Bergeron has set a purity test for state committee party members in her County (and presumably the whole state).  The test is simple.  If you didn’t vote the entire Republican ticket, you should not serve on the NHGOP state committee.   She did not mean if you voted for a registered Democrat, she means “if you left a box blank, because the candidate was not your cup of ‘tea,’ –you should not represent Republicans in NH.”

Think about that.

If you could not vote for the guy who helped advance the progressive agenda (Scott Brown) and whose voting record and policy positions violate many planks in the documented and agreed to NH state Republican party platform (voted for by the state delegates), then you are not the right sort to be a New Hampshire delegate says Julianna Bergeron.
