What’s Wrong With This Picture?

Individuals in traditional communities have pride in their good names and act accordingly. Families inside communities are strong and healthy. They tend to take care of their own. This minimizes the need for policing and social aid. Neighborhoods full of strong families tend to produce their own monitoring systems.

Families watch out for each other and their neighbors.

There is a strong sense government power ought to reside at the lowest feasible level exists. Each level of the community relies upon its own resources. This reduces the need for a strong central government and policing. People rely on institutions that exist where they live and work together.

This requires a community with a strong religious sense. People voluntarily adhere to a moral code. This is an enormous source of order and peace. Americans call them Judeo-Christian values. Marxists don’t have them.

In such communities, the role of the police is limited. These solutions are organic and community-driven. All are oriented toward the common good of community members. Remnants of such community spirit may survive here and there. They no longer dominate.

Breakdown of society

There has been a steady decline in civic spirit since the sixties. What we see now are dysfunctional neighborhoods and communities. They are “coming apart” primarily due to family breakdown. The Sexual Revolution turned society upside down.

It broke the social links carrying commitments and duties. The replacement was a do-your-own-thing individualism. It advocated the freedom to do whatever pleases the person. It removed responsibility and accountability from the social contract.

Marxist ideology plays a role in shattering communities. It introduces a class struggle narrative first dividing communities then pitting one part of society against another. We all used to be average Americans. It creates a culture of resentment and anger. The anger and resentment are focused on all types of moral restraint. It is highly corrosive of society.

The result is a society that is a meeting place for individual wills. Each has its own set of attitudes and preferences. Community is replaced with a world that is solely an arena for the achievement of self-satisfaction.

Today an appeal to community fragments cannot renew society. There is no reasonable expectation of successful minimization of the role of the police. Family life is fading. As a result, order is breaking down. Religion is losing its influence. In places like this crime, immorality and corruption thrive.

So many police are needed today in places where strong communities no longer exist. In their place are empty social spaces. Those empty social spaces need police to prevent the chaos of clashing wills. Chaos destroys all in its path. What we are witnessing is the empty social spaces calling for defunding the police. When it happens mob rule asserts itself. What’s Wrong With This Picture?
