Mark Steyn’s title is recycled here without remorse or regret becasue it nails “it” on the head. Please do him the favor a click, and perhaps a listen since we stole the headline, because while he is talking about the UK cops in this instance, there is bleed over into current-day America.

Mark relates ridiculous uses for the constabulary while actual crime goes uninvestigated and unpunished.
Back here in the States, UK-minded liberal mayors and governors are imposing fees and fines for attempting to evade their virus socialism, complete with an army of officers to eat out our substance, to borrow this time from Thomas Jefferson.
Taxpayer-bankrolled cretins are issuing instructions on how to correct your behavior if you’d like to avoid losing a few hundred more dollars for refusing to accept their encouragement.
In what ought to be a parallel universe, actual crimes go not just unpunished but encouraged by the same rabble by which I mean those Democrat mayors and governors. Theft, assault, destruction on public and private property, arson, and even murder progress with limited interference from the locals whose law-enforcement the rabble (among them released criminals) have promised to undermine.
They are holding society hostage, promising no peace until they get their way.
But “we don’t negotiate with terrorists” translated through the filter of the Left means we don’t negotiate; we just give in entirely and as quickly as possible. They are, after all, the Left’s terrorists.
But forget to wear your mask in public or distance without setting something on fire or looting someone’s livelihood, and you’ll get a stern talking too followed by a citation if you persist in your unlawful behavior. It’s for your own good. Imagine the guilt you must feel over this added and unnecessary stress to the community and its resources.
And don’t forget to pay that fine promptly. These Liberal mayors and governors are hurting for cash, having kneecapped, or shut down the engines of revenue in the name of public health. Well, the ones that are not already on fire.
Businesses that are fleeing the urban paradise and taking what’s left of their loot with them, never to return. A trend the rabble will label as white flight even when many of the victims have been business owners of color or the people who employ minorities.
And we’ve not even touched on the rampant speech and thought crime which is an epidemic all its own. A sad state, and we’re on the same path as the UK, which, as Mark notes, has become a land where everything is policed except crime.
Or maybe not. Maybe America will wake up in time to set matters right. Literally. Unseat the rabble and put an end to the Flu d’état.
Anyone, anyone, Bueller? Bueller?
