It has become increasingly difficult to find subject matter outside the context of that thing we’re all experiencing as a planet. Yes, the Kardashians. No, the other thing. But I’ve been trying. Because all (that thing) and no play makes Blogger a dull boy.
But everything is infused with it. The thing. You can’t turn on a TV, laptop, or mobile device and not see it.
And many of us are doing what my kids prefer to do. Shelter in place, glued to a screen, venturing out only to relieve your bladder or fill it again. How does the fridge refill itself, I wonder?
Personally, I have had to good the fortune of working at an essential business. We’re not as cool as the gun industry. But we provide technical systems and support to some grocery store chains, the logistics industry (shipping), and yes, a global company that makes paper and toilet paper. If they remain open, then so must we for all the inexplicable reasons you’ve already contemplated.
Why, toilet paper?
For the record, broken or otherwise, I happen to think all businesses are essential, a point I have made before even though no one asked me. Hey, I’m a blogger. I don’t wait to be asked. It’s all about sharing. And sharing is the reason not all businesses get to be essential. Not after the media ignored the crisis, ragged on the president for doing things about it, insisting there was no worry, then scaring the crap out of everyone 27/7 about the end of the earth while insisting the president wasn’t doing anything.
Someone needs to point out that certain corporate media outlets might not be essential unless by that you mean driving politicians to force people out of work because less than 1% of the population has the flu.
But that’s the new paradigm. Moving forward tyrants, petty or otherwise, will feel emboldened to demand things of the free market and the free people in the name of public safety. We did it before we can be made to do it again.
Mark my words, we’ll need a few new laws to constrain that impulse as soon as we are able. And that would be this coming November. If we are allowed out by then, not that they could actually contain us.
We should make a point of looking at who among the political darlings paraded before us has the least knee-jerk tendency toward using the boot of government to keep us down.
Here’s a hint. We don’t want folks who put feelings before free speech. The party that wants the government to decide when you are not a person so they can extinguish your life (especially now that the womb is no longer the limit of that death sentence). No politicians who think the same government that should be able to do those things (and many more) should have all the guns.
You know who I mean. Democrats. They need to be sent a message: being surprised by liberty is more valuable to us than knowing tyranny.
Freedom is nothing if you are not free.
And stop laughing at the preppers. They already had toilet paper. The next question is how many of them know how to make it at home?
