Promise me this…
The Donkey’s running for President are locked in battle. Socialists all, they are competing to become the candidate who promises to give away the most tax dollars of yours. They are promising to give away everything to anyone who might be a potential voter whether or not they are a citizen. Why are they in favor of giving away free stuff and opposed to eliminating taxes is? Aren’t they both ways to give things to the people?
The competitors are not limiting themselves to giving away current period taxes. No, no, they are promising to borrow money to give away. Bottom line, they want to economically enslave you. These mental giants are promising to economically enslave not just you… but also your future generations too. They don’t want to redistribute wealth, they want to control you by economically enslaving you.
The Socialist Dream…
Socialism promises a dream, a utopia. It sounds great. As Marx wrote “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.” But those promises are simply never realized. What’s worse, once tried, the recovery from it takes generations.
The socialist cycle goes something like this: Promise the world on a silver platter. Elect a socialist. Raise taxes and grow government. Nationalize industries. Get excited about the increased government revenues. Make even grander promises and grow the government even larger. Run out of money to pay for the promises and the government. Raise taxes, borrow money, and grow the government. Raise taxes, borrow money, grow the government and print money to repay debt. Continue until no one will lend to the nation. Chaos in the streets follows. The economy collapses because the value of money is nearly zero. Elect a tyrannical ruler to end the violence in the street. Consolidate power. Incur massive human suffering. Drive the nation back to the stone ages economically.
Capitalism fails…
On the other hand, capitalism fails miserably by comparison with the promises of heaven… but it works. Yes, it is run by humans who make mistakes. But, they recognize their mistakes, try to recover and do better. All earthly systems are going to come up short against socialism’s promises. Reality just doesn’t exceed our dreams… and why is that?
Mankind must make choices among the real existing economic systems. What we know is that capitalism and free market economies have raised more people out of poverty than any other. We know it has accomplished this in a shorter period than any other system ever devised. That is more people benefited, faster than ever before in the entire recorded history of the world.
Results matter…
The Democratic presidential candidates promise free stuff e.g.: free college, universal basic income, “Medicare for All,” debt forgiveness and the Green New Deal. We have not heard yet whether they support reparations for the generations of Americans who actually paid for their college education and paid for their medical care. But it is pretty certain that the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus will be involved in delivery of all the promises. That is quite simply because there aren’t enough dollars in the world to pay for their promises.
History tells us “Freedom and Bread” was a promise used by Adolf Hitler and the National Socialist German Workers’ Party (Nazi). Stalin promised a great socialist-Marxist society that included better food and better worker conditions. Chairman Mao promised democratic constitutionalism and the dream that “farmers have land to till.” What these socialist leaders promises created was many millions of dead people.
Conclusion:
Simon and Garfunkel wrote the song, The Boxer, in which they sing, “…I have squandered my resistance… For a pocket full of mumbles, such are promises… All lies and jests… Still a man hears what he wants to hear… And disregards the rest…”
Will America be wiser than the Boxer? Can we avoid the siren’s song of socialism?
