“If people in the media cannot decide whether they are in the business of reporting news or manufacturing propaganda, it is all the more important that the public understand that difference, and choose their news sources accordingly.” —Thomas Sowell
First, there is this story: “Rep Fred Maslack sponsored a bill to register “non-gun-owners” and require them to pay a $500 fee to the state. Thus Vermont would become the first state to require a permit for the luxury of going about unarmed and assess a fee of $500 for the privilege of not owning a gun.”
So there it is. Once again, it is taking flight around the internet as if this is recent news. But…In all reality, Maslack proposed the bill in 2001. Yep! Maslack has not been in the Vermont house for over ten years. This a great story…grabs some real traction with the anti-gun nutjobs. (I suspect it was one of them who breathed new life into it). Straw journalism, if you will. And that’s okay…many sheeple will fall for this…along with the blogosphere…many will get caught in its web of deceit.
But, since the proverbial horse is out of the barn, Why not entertain the possibilities, if perhaps, there might be another Fred Maslack out there crafting such a law for consideration. I think it not unfair to assume how anti-gun liberals would receive the law. No abuse would be left uncommitted. The scorched earth would follow. The howls and cries would harken forth about a law that violates their very sacred liberties, never mind how they want to violate mine by taking away my right to own guns. Suddenly, we see collectivist progressives turn aggressively into Liberty advocates…and before they catch themselves…To late! already said it…yep, you liberals are phonies…but we knew all along.
So yeah, you might find this making its way into your inbox. Its all true…but its not “news.” Not new News anyway…Picture this, three liberals gathered around and apple computer giggling..saying, “watch this…” while hitting the send button…Now that would be news….not so much.
