Morning Update: The Macabre Cadre of ‘Rats’

Today, on the Morning Update: Has the online right gone too far in its response to the response to the Lindsey Clancy case? Debate is welcome and necessary, but we need to discuss a deeper, darker problem.

Welcome to your Wednesday, September sixteenth, two thousand and twenty-six morning update.

I’m a big fan of Konstantin Kisin. We agree on many, many things. But he has a very interesting take on the response from the right on the Lindsey Clancy case. Quote,

The entire online writer spent the last month screeching about the Lindsey Clancy story. She pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility. At the time of writing, the jury had deliberated for five days, declared itself deadlocked twice, and continues; a mistrial is possible. As you know, a mistrial is exactly what happened. Naturally, with a case of this nature, there is much conjecture and speculation. There is also a debate about whether she was capable of criminal responsibility or not. All of this is understandable, reasonable and legitimate. Even the debate about the death penalty is, in my view, perfectly rational. What is not reasonable, rational, or legitimate is what I’ve seen in response to this story. How many commentators who’ve spent the last weeks using the story to drive a wedge between people? According to the internet, if your girlfriend supports Lindsey Clancy, you should immediately dump her. A view endorsed by a whole host of prominent online commentators.

Clancy was a model citizen, parent, and mother prior to her psychotic break.

Her husband has forgiven her and views her as ill, not as evil.

And it very much looks like what the defense contends.

Quote,

This is, in other words, one of those issues about which reasonable people can reasonably disagree. Twelve people who sat through five weeks of evidence cannot agree for a reason. But slopulists are incentivized to deny that such a thing exists. The possibility of reasonable people having a respectful disagreement is a direct threat to their business model, whose purpose is to present any event as a debate between good and evil. The progressive left spent the last several decades practicing this model to perfection, and the online right has now embraced it with open arms.

I see it differently.

Many of the same progressives who have embraced Lindsey Clancy and are defending her, are the ones who insist we must be able to kill babies up to birth. At least a few of them, maybe more than a few, are also in favor of something like assisted suicide for children who happen to be ill or disabled.

Quite a few of them praised Luigi Mangioni, and continue to celebrate the assassination of Charlie Kirk and Brian Thompson.

This is also, coincidentally, the Kill Ice crowd. Many of the same folks who are upset that Crooks only clipped Mr. Trump’s ear and didn’t put a bullet in his brain, and that none of his other would-be assassins even got close. They are, coincidentally, also the source of almost all of the violent rhetoric online and in public.

People who wish their political and ideological opponents could be silenced, imprisoned, or even killed.

There’s plenty of mental illness out there. And not nearly enough is being done to correct it or prevent it.

Lindsey, of course, tried to kill herself after killing her children. But the bigger problem is the culture of death that is attracted to her and her case.

I’m not incentivized at all by her personally or her mental state.

I’m incentivized by the mental state of the evil bitches and bastards who are praising whatever it is she did and acting like it was necessary and that it was okay.

I think there’s tons of room for debate about everything. That’s kind of what we do here. But there’s a much bigger picture, something bigger than the Clancy trial.

If you let those who “other” human life, no matter where or what, you have to accept that those individuals are going to elect people who think the same way as they do into positions of power. And by doing that, we are emboldening the exact same death culture that probably led to every single act of genocide in human history.

We can disagree on Lindsay’s mental state. I think we all agree she needs medical attention, as to whether or not she should be in prison for the rest of her life. Again, I agree with Konstantin. Always open to debate.

But we oughta be able to agree that there is a coincidence to the Macabre cadre of rats attracted to the darkness that surrounds this sad tale. And that they represent an existential threat to human flourishing.

We also have to recognize that there is an awful lot of coincidence when it comes to the sort of people that they support for elected office. They support the party of death, the Democrat Party.

I think you can draw a pretty short line between the two. And November is coming.

That’s it for today. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
