“Gun Control has Racist Roots” … Wait. What? Part II

Grokster Scott’s post was not what I was expecting and certainly the folks in the video were speaking their hearts.  But in putting up some of the quotes, I think he missed one – and the one that makes the most importance, so I transcribed it.  Rev. William Owens Jr., Founder, “God, Guns and the Constitution” start speaking at 2:07 (and ends the clip) has the following to say (emphasis mine):

This Administration is far from the truth. The agenda is becoming more and more obvious to all, that it’s a distraction. It’s a reason, an excuse to carry out an ideology that is more evident every day, every week that goes by, that it is anti-American. And when you touch the Second Amendment, you can’t become more anti-American because America would not be without her guns. And guns would not be necessary without her God.

We call upon Americans, both black, white, Hispanic; Republicans, Democrats, Independents and even those that are not of our faith to agree upon this: without God, without guns, without the Constitution, America’s end will come with haste.

For when they change our Constitution, they will take our guns. And when they take our guns, they will also seek to take our God. That’s when America will fight back.

All of what the Reverend says is true.  Read that last paragraph, for that is what Obama and his Progressive perps are in the process of doing.  Wilson, TDR (at the end), FDR, LBJ – Progressives all and made no secret at all that the principle reason for the Constitution was to limit people like them.  Is the fence of the Constitution standing like an armored wall, or more like a bulging fence whose bottom is being pushed out more and more?

Data Point – Do Americans want more taxes or want more spending cuts?

Obama is saying that a majority of Americans want his approach to cutting the deficit: balanced.  Problem is, he already got a boatload of new taxes and is already looking for more.  Balanced: just like his use of the word “investment” means “spending more tax money”, his use of the word “balanced” means “more money … Read more

Notable Quote – John Stuart Mill (his Harm Principle)

The sole end for which mankind are warranted, individually or collectively, in interfering with the liberty of action of any of their number is self-protection … The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. Biden: “if it only saves one life!”

From The Blaze (emphasis mine):

An armed elderly man in Dallas shot and killed a suspected burglar after finding him trying to break into his Dallas home this week. However, he was also forced to defend his actions after the would-be robber’s family showed up at his home.

The homeowner, a repeat burglary victim, found 33-year-old Deyfon Pipkins attempting to climb in the house through the window and fired at least one shot at the criminal, hitting his target.

Dallas police Sgt. Calvin Johnson told KDFW-TV that the homeowner is covered by the so-called “Castle Doctrine,” which provides legal protection to gun owners in Texas and other states who are forced to use deadly force against a home intruder.

“It means they don’t actually have to retreat once someone comes in their home,” Johnson said. “You have the option of using deadly force if you believe your life is in danger.”

Old man at home.  Young man trying to come in – without a key or invite.  “My home is my Castle” – an acknowledgement of the right to self-defense of Personage and Property.  After all, nothing says “malfeasance” to a “host” than using the back window instead of the front door.  But wait, there’s more!

Maybe the start of a Revolution? The number of firearms firms pushing back grows

Grokster Susan saw the ball starting to roll with LaRue Tactical; quickly Olympic Arms and York Arms followed suit in publicizing that they would no longer sell to any State entity within a State that makes it illegal for its citizens to own the same hardware that its law enforcement can purchase.

The word, and the will to fight back and stand up to Governments that are morphing from public employees to rulers of the public, is spreading; update from NC Gunblog:

Notable Quote – Max Weber

Scarcely fifteen years ago, when American workers were asked why they allowed themselves to be governed by politicians whom they admitted they despised, the answer was: ‘We prefer having people in office whom we can spit upon, rather than a caste of officials who spit upon us, as is the case with you.’ This was … Read more

HB617: Thanks to BOTH NH Democrats AND Republicans, filling up is going to cost us all $0.15 / gallon

Yup, that’s right.  The NH House’s Public Works and Highway Committee members decided that it was so durn important to fix roads and such, they couldn’t be bothered to really set a priority list and bump down others much less important (remember:  “Maggie the Marxist” – she choose diapers over students??  $2 million for adult diapers? great prioritization)  HB617 was just passed out of that Committee, 17-0, with nary a “limited government / less taxes” Republican throwing a single “Nay!”.  Not one Republican could say “er, is this really not a good thing to do right now with gas quickly heading towards $4 / gallon WITHOUT the State of NH helping it along??  Here are those Republicans:

Gene Chandler (r)
William Friel (r)
Edmond Gionet (r)
John Graham (r)
Walter Kolodziej (r)
Mark McConkey (r)
David Milz (r)
Franklin Tilton (r)
Kevin Waterhouse (r)

Yeah, one of them is “mine”: Frank Tilton from Belknap.  You got one too? Look at the first name, though: Minority Leader, Republican Gene Chandler.I guess in this time of skyrocketing gas prices for the regular folk, an 85% increase in the NH gas tax is but a mere pittance on behalf of the “Live Free or Die Leviathan”, eh? Not one of them asked themselves (as seen by their votes) “who needs their money more – us or them”?  Well, we know now BY THEIR OWN VOTES how they feel about “oh, you guys can make out fine with less“…  The current Highway trust account is so leaky, they have to create a brand new one?  And I forgot – raising ‘some” vehicle registration fees?  And the Republicans went along with this?

Nice messaging, dudes.  Lower income folks are already having to make hard decisions and you Republicans are just about to make it much harder…win friends, influence people, and gain Republican votes – GREAT GOING!  Good thing that Senator Chuck Morse has decided to be the adult Republican in the room and say “DOA when it comes over from the House”.  Yes, this is one bill I will be glad to see the Senate stop dead.

Yeah, I didn’t forget about the Democrats (after the jump)….they are probably loving the fact that the Republicans just gave them cover to raise a tax that hits everyone in the State.  I’m betting that somebody’s gonna have to go over and pick them up off the floor, they’ve been laughing so much….

Progressives – just make it too expensive for the ordinary guy to own a gun: a de facto confiscation

A typical handgun in the typical gun store can be had from $300 to $900 (and of course, can go WAY higher).  Until the Progressives started on their current ‘don’t waste the Sandy Hook crisis” jeremiad to disarm the populace (even as they admit their gun grabs would NOT have stopped any of the recent mass killings), the cost of an AR (you know, the kind of semiautomatic rifle with cosmetics that cause pansie Democrats to have to change their shorts often) would be in the $1 – $2,000 range.  The incremental costs are mostly just the ammo and range time.

Well, not only have NY State Legislative Democrats (with a few Republicans on par with “useful idiots”) already stuck it to their gun owners already, but are about to pile on with more:

The latest bill, introduced in the New York State Assembly by Democrat Assemblyman Felix Ortiz, seeks to force all gun owners to purchase at least $1 million in liability insurance to cover any damages caused by firearms. It would be a mandatory requirement for anyone who owns a gun, as those who refuse to comply within 30 days would have their firearms confiscated.

“Any person in this state who shall own a firearm shall, prior to such ownership, obtain and continuously maintain a policy of liability insurance in an amount not less than one million dollars specifically covering any damages resulting from any negligent or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such person,” the bill, S2353, states.

“Failure to maintain such insurance shall result in the immediate revocation of such owner’s registration, license and any other privilege to own such firearm,” the bill adds.

Data Point – 8 Worst ROI college degrees

A few years ago, I was horrified that a young lady had gone to an Ivy League school, a very expensive school, simply to get an early childhood education degree (think: daycare teacher).  She was in tears (in the article, that is) over the fact that the money she could earn with that very expensive … Read more

Consider the consequence of a decision – or the keeping of a promise

Unlike our Tranparency-in-Chief Obama who has, over and over, promised that his Administration would be the most transparent ever (as in former EPA Head Lisa Jackson using TWO unofficial email address to keep official business, well, opaque to the public), this boss was very transparent as to what would happen:

A southwest Ohio woman says she was fired three days after the November election because she voted for President Barack Obama.

She dared him

The woman has filed a lawsuit in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court seeking damages starting at $25,000 against Q-Mark Inc. and its president. The Dayton-based company is a sales firm representing manufacturers and defense contractors.

The Dayton Daily News  reports that Patricia Kunkle alleges that company President Roberta Gentile told employees last year that Obama supporters would be the first to be terminated if he got re-elected.

He met the dare….how dare he!

The company says she was laid off for economic reasons and cited uncertainty over U.S. defense spending.

Given the sequester and its impact on the military budget AND the uncertainty of whether it will be held off plays a role in any biz decision.

Kunkle had become a full-time employee of the company in May 2012 and says she never received any negative evaluations or disciplinary action.

Obamaphones – free for “the indigent” but man, are we paying the sales folks well!

It isn’t enough that the FCC decided that the Rural Telephone Fee was going to be switched paying for landlines and now to cellphones.  It isn’t enough that costs have skyrocketed well beyond even the most “liberal” estimates and that millions have received them that aren’t supposed to (sure, just like with Medicaid, fraud costs are down WHEN YOU AREN’T LOOKING FOR IT!).   So how DO all the phones get out to the “needy recipients”?  Must be at some Government office with trained and professional social workers who swiftly and efficiently evaluate each and every case decided with deliberateness and thoughtfulness?

Not so much:  from CraigsList:

Ways that Progressives are bound & determined to get rid of guns – including a visit to your home

Molon Labe - AR-15Well, it is well known that the Left is going bat crazy in trying to rid the American populace of any guns that are of any consequence in defiance of the real purpose of the Second Amendment – defense against a tyrannical govt.  Much has been made that the Founders could not have foreseen modern sporting rifles (aka “the scary looking guns that have Progressives changing their panties often”), so we should be limited to muzzle loading muskets.  I thought this observation is truer to the real intent “to have comparable arms to the modern British soldier” – kinda puts that snarky musket comment in different light, eh?

Any ways, we’ve seen all kinds of machinations around the theme of “Progressives don’t trust ordinary law abiding citizens with cool looking guns” whose main technological capability, being semi-automatic, is well over a 100 years old. We’ve seen the list of banned guns, we’ve seen the list of approved guns.  We’ve seen the craziness of the number of rounds in a magazine (where 30 rounds for an AR is the STANDARD size, not a high capacity size) to limit them as low as 3 (and NY has made it 7 for any firearm taking a detachable magazine).  Cosmetic stuff too – shrouds, foregrips, variable stocks, thumbhole stocks; stuff that have no different in making the basic technology “more lethal”. Gun registries – either legally (as in NY) or de facto (at the national level).

But there have been other stuff proposed that are less well known – but just as useful in removing the ability for lawful citizens to exercise their Second Amendment Rights to contemporary and well known & distributed firearms. So, lets review a few of the more flagrant ones.

From US Senator Diane Feinstein’s S.150 – “To regulate assault weapons, to ensure that the right to keep and bear arms is not unlimited, and for other purposes”.

So, now the Pentagon is in the business of discriminating?

I keep wondering – if our military’s main mission to kill people and break, why are they so bent on doing social engineering?  I listened to the Eldest and the Youngest (both combat vets – Marine / 101st) as first “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”  goes by the board – neither had nice words on that at all.  In fact, the report back at the time was that many of those in his squad would not re-enlist (in fact, I remember seeing a recent poll of enlisted which, if true, means that the Army and Marine will have little problem in reaching the Obama downsizing projections).  Most recently came the info that women would be able to fill combat roles in the infantry (including the elite forces) – immediately the Youngest’s first retort was “look how beat up my body is from my year of full time combat patrols – at 26.  There is no way that a 5’5″ – 130 lb woman is going to consistently ruck a 120 lb pack for miles in the mountains at 8 – 10,000 feet altitude and still be as effective as they guys.  Sure, we got hurt and we had all kinds of stress injuries that slowed us down – but I’m 220 and 6’1″ and can better haul that gear.”

He then added – “glad I’m out.”

Well, the soon departing SecDef Leon Panetta has decided to make yet another huge social engineering experiment – and providing an object lesson in Progressive discrimination in how they veiw gays vs straights:

Facebook Doodlings – in which I may have called out Lloyd over at TreeHugger

Well, I do go over to TH from time to time, and even leave comments.  Well, there was a post by Lloyd (“90 by 50 plan could reduce New York City’s emissions by 90% by 2050“), someone that doesn’t always take kindly to Conservative or Libertarians assaulting what seems to be an Environmental Communitarian mantra.  The Urban Green Council wants to make it mandatory that buildings meet their standard of reducing their carbon footprint by 90% by 2050.  This will absolutely require massive expenditures by private owners – probably enough to bankrupt more than a small percentage.  And knowing how this works, they will use Government to make it happen.

Private Property?

So, I could not help myself – I left a comment for the author, Lloyd:

” there is no need for floor-to-ceiling glass” – Ah yes, THE phrase that marks a Liberal. We so declare that in our eyes, you should not want to “need” it, so we’ll pull a Bloomberg and just regulate it out of existence.

If you are looking for a firm foundation, when you see such a phrase, ask yourself: Since when did someone’s Freedom become limited by someone else’s selfish sense of “it has to be needed first”?

Freedom should always. just. be.  “Need” need not apply when talking about Freedom.  Thus, I was surprised, he actually responded – but the nuance did not surprise:
