Mercy Health announced Thursday it will fire 347 workers due to “increasing challenges to our reimbursement structure as we adjust to reductions mandated by the Affordable Care Act,” the company said in a statement. President and CEO of the Mercy system, Lynn Britton, said the Obamacare-induced layoffs are taking a toll on workers and their families.

ScotusCare: The Judge has a few choice words. Ambiguous. Steve put up one of Supreme Court Justice Scalia’s words of dissent from today’s King vs Burwell decision – I agree. Former judge Napolitano, a strict Constitutionalist who, due to his attitude and oratory is a favorite speaker on the conservative trail (I have heard him twice in person – he can hold a crowd and get them on their feet!) also had a few choice words. I was glancing at SCOTUSblog when it was announced real time and then happened to catch the judge on Fox:
My immediate reaction is that the chief justice has yet again resorted to a nearly unheard of construction in order to save the statute,”

Yes, I have been on a bit of a sabbatical lately and it will continue as I realized that life, after 9 years of GraniteGrok, had just tipped way over in being out of balance. I’ve said often that this hobby, over time, became more of an obsession, and then went beyond and when I noticed that my first post was 9 years and 5 days in the past, I went “uh-oh”. One only had to look at my house to see the effects of benign neglect because of what became so important that it literally overruled almost everything else. So for the last month or so, I’ve been rebalancing things to a more “sustainable” situation (heh!) and that will continue – but I will put up a few posts now and then – and besides, Steve asked for some content as his son’s graduation (Congrats, Steve!!) was more important than writing, so a few posts from me will go up. So here’s one:
TMEW and I like to frequent the local establishments, even in this age of online. I stopped by one very successful business and as we were sitting, the owner stopped by. Knowing each other, we immediately started to talk about the Prez wannabees and we traded some observations. Then he asked:
“she has a choice: either avoid discussion of the issue or resign.”
Will she listen to the people who know her best, Republicans in Cheshire County, and remove her name? Decisions have consequences and NH State GOP Committeewoman Bergeron is now learning that her decision to sign an amicus brief with other “Republican luminaries” supporting gay marriage to the Supreme Court (running counter to just about every State level GOP Platform affirming traditional marriage is between one man and one woman) has really riled up her Cheshire County constituents. As my last post indicated, why can’t our so-called “leaders” listen to the voters that put their butts into their seats based on Republican ideals and act that way?
With her action, Bergeron put HER agenda before that of her Party’s Principles – and now they have reacted to that selfish action. Jim McConnell called and let me know that this resolution / request of an action was introduced into the Cheshire Republican Committee for consideration. It will be published in their newsletter and will be voted upon at their next meeting (emphasis mine):

From Bearing Arms, there was a line in here that made me laugh out loud (reformatted, emphasis mine):
A Hamilton Township, Ohio couple didn’t exactly rise to the occasion Saturday night as they attempted to deal with an attempted home invasion.
Witnesses said a naked male was acting irrationally and attempted to break into two homes around the 10000 block of Murdock-Goshen Road, according to police. Witnesses said he was beating on doors, yelling and screaming, according to Hamilton Township Police Chief Jon Wheeler. 911 was called after he approached a house, but wasn’t able to enter, Wheeler said. Wheeler said evidence suggests that the man was able to enter the second home he approached. Witnesses reported to police that the man threatened a woman living in the home, and the man was then shot outside by the homeowner with a shotgun.
The male suspect was hit in the abdomen. The female living at the home was also “seriously injured by the gunfire,” police said.
The account provided above dispassionately describes the turn of events, and in so doing, undermines the urgency of events.
It was the conclusion of the author that cracked me up:

You know, I had all but finished writing about Mr. Al Letizio – you remember the one, yes? He’s one of the two Windham Clown Princes of Politics on their School Board – and the good folk bounced the two of them (the other being Dennis Senibaldi) from said Board after the scandal that Kimberly wrote about (yes, the Examiner.com rolled over at the wisp of a legal retaliation by them like a two day old puppy that had lost control of itself) the no bid, not read, “energy saving” contract that was, IMHO, worthless.
I have no idea why I thought of it tonight (whilst having dinner out with TMEW), but I remembered that someone came up to me during the 603 Alliance event and told me that Al Letizio was passing word around and saying that I was lying about him in my previous posts. That he was calling others as well and telling them others too. Hmm, I still have all those emails…
After all, he was at the meeting, check in hand, for Planned Parenthood’s Action Fund – you remember, the political arm of Planned Parenthood whose mission is to get rid of NH GOP Committeeman Steve Duprey’s sitting Republican US Senator, Kelly Ayotte (R-NH). Yeah, having it both ways at once. Sorry, his “justification” in my eyes doesn’t wash, that he’s raised lots of money for pro-life Republicans as well. That’s hedging, pandering, and not being honest – straddling and triangulating really only worked for Bill Clinton.
Anyways, it seems like the US House passed a bill today that the President of Planned Parenthood (who was at that same meeting with Steve Duprey) at which Cecile Richards was RATHER upset:
The U.S. House passed the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would ban abortions after nearly five months, 242-184 on Wednesday, the two-year anniversary of the conviction of infamous abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell.
Remember Kermit? The abortionist that finally brought the true reality of abortion in the country’s living room – failed abortions, utterly miserable Third World conditions, neglected live births, “kept” children (in formaldehyde and freezers) and dead mothers (better than the back ally coat-hangers we’ve been fear-mongered at for decades)? And this is what Cecile Richards had to say about it: unconstitutional….hurt women?
After only three months on the job, Elissa Voccola is no longer the executive director of the New Hampshire Republican Party, WMUR.com has learned. Party sources said Voccola’s last day on the job was Friday and the parting was by mutual agreement.
Hmm, that’s pretty much code speech of “resign and we go easy else we quote The Donald”.
Voccola, 26, joined the NHGOP in early February after serving as executive director of the Connecticut Republican Party since mid-2013…While in Connecticut, Voccola reportedly had open disagreements with 2014 gubernatorial nominee Tom Foley on hiring, allocation of resources and fundraising. It’s unclear if any similar problems led to her departure from the New Hampshire post.
But I’m betting DiStaso hit this dead nuts on (even as Republican Jim Rubens was on the same kick):
“Defeating Islamic terror, shrinking government, growing the economy. These are the issues that matter most. Instead, we’re debating social issues like abortion and gay rights. That’s from a George Pataki ad (if you don’t know, he thinks he can be the next Prez) – just ignore them, a nothing burger on the grander scheme of things. And he’s completely oblivious that Big Government IS using those issues and demanding that we live our lives accordingly. THAT is why she AND Obama are emphasizing them! Take a read

Yup, to me, Joe Taxpayer, they want to spend a whole lotta money for not a whole lot of paying riders – and NONE of them will be full-boat payers, either. With all of the rail projects around the nation, be it subway, light rail, or regular rail, they just refuse to see the fiscal problems of them – especially that of the the MBTA – the system they want NH attached to. Here’s the “Anti-Planner” with some stuff from California’s woe-in-progress for its “desperately needed” high speed rail. I generally don’t repost an entire post, but I just couldn’t figure out what parts that could be left out without “losing the story” (emphasis mine):
California Representative Nancy Pelosi famously told Congress it would have to pass the Obamacare bill to find out what it said. Now California officials are telling residents they will have to spend tens of billions of dollars building the San Francisco-Los Angeles high-speed rail line to find out how much a ticket will cost. As one official says, “We will not know until late in the game [meaning after the line is built] how everything will turn out.”
Can you say “man-made disaster”? Who the heck does that kind of thing without figuring out the costs?? No entrepreneur I know – but politicians, yes, those self-assured incompetents, certainly know “it’ll all work out in the end”. Question is, whose “end” is going to get reamed? Not theirs, I bet….
