Socialism - Power over people

Notable Quote – Richard Fernandez

The elite wanted a world without God and they got it. Andrew Sullivan argues that with the decline of traditional religions the godless world has embraced political cults.  They are finding the resulting world an uncongenial place. Everyone has a religion. It is, in fact, impossible not to have a religion if you are a human being. … Read more

Breaking News: Texas Judge rules Obamacare unconstitutional.

Hardest hit: Women and children, Poor,  Legacy of Obama

Breaking: Obamacare ruled unconstitutional by Texas judge – here’s what he said

A judge in Texas ruled Obamacare unconstitutional in light of Congress passing a budget that excised the mandate from the original legislation. U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor in Fort Worth said that the Affordable Care Act passed under the aegis of former President Barack Obama became unconstitutional after the budget passed by Republicans that cut out the tax penalty for not purchasing insurance….Texas and nineteen other states argued that the U.S. Supreme Court had found the healthcare legislation constitutional on the basis of the existence of the mandate. Once the mandate was eradicated by Congress, they claimed, that completely undermined the constitutionality of the bill.

Judge O’Connor agreed with that reasoning Friday.

OK Jon Hopwood – bad thing to do what you did: an old white guy, attacking Rich Girard, and using the N word

That’s right.  Jon Hopwood really doesn’t like Rich Girard.  As in REALLY doesn’t like Rich Girard.  So over at Ed’s post (“Manchester Fool Committee Strikes Again“) where he opined about Manchester Ward 2’s David Scannell and his role in deliberately publishing lawyer Karen Hewe’s letter about Rich Girard correcting Rachel Phelan’s Op-Ed on Manchester teacher negotiations. I’d suggest that you go read it for better understanding the following context (or not – there’s not much context needed for this loser):

So while he accuses Rich of assorted unnicities, he forgot his own, rather Politically Incorrect, peccadillo.

Democrat US Rep Ted Lieu: Govt should be able to regulate your speech

I have a post in my head about the larger Constitutional topic but once again, we see that Constitution is a GREAT constrictor of nascent totalitarians like US Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif).

California Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) blatantly confessed on CNN that he “would love to be able to regulate the content of speech” but that he’s stopped by that pesky First Amendment, which keeps his powers in check.

Appearing on CNN with host Brianna Keilar, Lieu was asked to discuss the congressional hearing with Google CEO Sundar Pichai about political bias within the company and how it might affect the country. Keilar at one point questioned Lieu about what politicians can do to put a stop to online trolling and conspiracy theories. Lieu confessed that he would love to regulate speech but that the First Amendment prevents him from doing so. To his credit, he does add that it’s better that the government not regulate free speech.

I’m not sure about that “to his credit” bit. Here’s the verbatim quote:

OK, I grudgingly agree with this only because GUNS!

Oh, and one more – if it can serve as a backup generator during power outages (I’ve already got a cable for that!). Prius and guns – never thought I’d use both of those words in the same sentence. (H/T: Powerline)

Parkland Massacre – Investigating Panel recommends arming teachers. Heads exploding in 3…2…1…

Wow!  Just wow! What is Parkland kiddie David Hogg going to do about this? A breath of fresh reality (reformmated, emphasis mine):

Florida school massacre panel recommends arming teachers

The panel investigating the Florida high school massacre recommended Wednesday that teachers who volunteer and undergo extensive background checks and training be allowed to carry concealed guns on campus to stop future shootings. The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission voted 13-1 to recommend the Legislature allow the arming of teachers, saying it’s not enough to have one or two police officers or armed guards on campus. Florida law adopted after the Feb. 14 shooting that left 17 dead allows districts to arm non-teaching staff members such as principals, librarians and custodians — and 13 of the 67 districts do, mostly in rural parts of the state.

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, the commission’s chairman, pushed the measure at the Tallahassee meeting. He said most deaths in school shootings happen within the first few minutes, before officers on and off campus can respond. He said suspect Nikolas Cruz stopped to reload his AR-15 semi-automatic rifle five times, all of which would have been opportunities for an armed teacher to shoot him.

Data Point – US Income more equal than advertised

In short, the widely reported explosion of inequality in the past three decades is likely a myth, built upon outdated and flawed statistics… Whereas Piketty and Saez show a massive century-long swing of almost 20 percentage points in the income share of the top 10 percent, the adjusted figures show a much flatter curve with … Read more

“It’s all part of the “our political belief killed 100 million people in the last century” starter kit.” – getting a communist finger tattoo

Or wait for it – the Democrat Socialists of America.

Yeah, if I saw a job candidate coming into my firm and I saw that tattoo, s/he would be quickly shown the door. Anyone thinking that they should allow such nonsense (given that the DSA has already said that there should never be a profit (er, without it, who would be able to hire ANYONE?) and that private companies should be taken over by “the workers” (yes, I’m on their email list so I see this anti-American crappola all the time)) deserve what they get – which if they really take power would be destitution and a free stay at the “Re-Education Seaside Resort”. That is, if they weren’t subjected to the communist holocaust  alluded to in the title of this post.

So, the San Francisco “steering committee” of the Democrat Socialists of America decided to set themselves apart from everyone with this cute design.  No, not as flamboyant as the typical MS-13 gangsters we’ve been seeing in the news that ordinarily would have jobs in a traveling circus as the Tattoo’d Man decades ago – but just as dangerous.  Yes, as dangerous.  Not physically, at least not at first, but certainly their root ideas are and we only have to see the carnage that “government directed life” wreaks upon a country (g.e., “She who forgets history ends up with Venezuela“).

My, don’t they feel….entitled? Illegal immigrant caravan “migrants” demand money to go away.

Last time I knew, that was call “extortion” (“nice country you have there, shame if we were to enter it”). Yup, that’s what they’re doing – people that shouldn’t be here, didn’t bother to follow our laws, making demands on no basis at all.  How about another choice: go home?  Oh, and note how they’ve learned the lingo from the American Left who holds that America is horrible (reformatted, emphasis mine):

Migrant group demand Trump either let them in or pay them each $50G to turn around: report

Two groups of Central American migrants marched to the U.S. Consulate in Tijuana on Tuesday with a list of demands, with one group delivering an ultimatum to the Trump administration: either let them in the U.S. or pay them $50,000 each to go home, a report said. Among other demands were that deportations be halted and that asylum seekers be processed faster and in greater numbers, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported. The first group of caravan members, that included about 100 migrants, arrived at the consulate around 11 a.m. Alfonso Guerreo Ulloa, an organizer from Honduras, said the $50,000 figure was chosen as a group.

“It may seem like a lot of money to you,” Ulloa told the paper. “But it is a small sum compared to everything the United States has stolen from Honduras.”

Right. Let’s see, 10,000 illegals X $50,000 works out to be $500 million – that’s not just “walking around” (pun intended) money.  Yet, they feel entitled for that

And Obama is still trying to convince us that Obamacare is “affordable”

Mmmm, yeah, and I kept my doctor, too:

“And most folks can find coverage for $50 to $100/month. That’s probably less than your cell phone bill.”

Yeah, we’ve heard that line as well.  Of COURSE it’s affordable – when someone else is paying for it (and not when it’s not).  Now, my cell bill, for two lines, is much less than $100 but a bit more than $50.  But tell me, WHO else has health insurance for that amount of money – if they have to pay for it themselves?  Especially as Chief Proctologist & Hectorer-in-Chief (in politics, that is) Zandra Rice-Hawkins (who is rather upset because REPUBLICANS ARE SABOTAGING Obamacare – who would EVER think that??):

Sidenote: WHY is Rice-Crispies being quoted in the Charlotte Observer?  Why would they down there care about what’s happening here in NH?

Notable Quote – Karl Popper

For in our own time, the earlier, naturalistic revolution against God replaced the name ‘God’ by the name ‘Nature’. Almost everything else was left unchanged. Theology, the Science of God, was replaced by the Science of Nature; God’s laws by the laws of Nature; God’s will and power by the will and power of Nature (the natural forces); and later, God’s design and God’s judgment by Natural Selection. Theological determinism was replaced by a naturalistic determinism; that is, God’s omniscience and omnipotence were replaced by the omniscience and omnipotence of the Natural Sciences.

Hegel and Marx replaced the goddess Nature, in her turn, by the goddess History. So we get laws of History; powers, forces, tendencies, designs, and plans, of History; and the omniscience and omnipotence of historical determinism. Sinners against God are replaced by ‘criminals who vainly resist the march of History’; and we learn that not God but History will be our judge.

-Karl Popper (A Pluralist Approach to the Philosophy of History)

Yep, the Progressives’ “Arc of History” bit – a crock in its entirety.  History just “is” – it is just what has happened in the past and has no agency, in and of itself, to sway the agency of actual live humans.  A recording, yes, but nothing more (regardless of the nonsense that Obama spewed in using it). Same with nature – nature is also “just is”

Oh Wait! Wasn’t that all supposed to make it go down??

The Democrats want complete civilian disarmament such that only The State has the ability to utilize Force. So they pass law after law to make that happen because SAFETY AND SECURITY! Which of course, the rest of us know will never happen.  Of course, these Safety folks have no regard for the flip side: Rights and Freedom.  Which, I point out, they don’t care about.  And yet, this happens (reformmated and emphasis mine):

Of course, watch the meltdown when you point out that the state with the most strict gun control had it’s already high homicide rate jump up nearly 18 percent from 2014 to 2016. California, a state with every gun control imaginable, witnessed an 18 percent rise in firearm homicides from 2014 to 2016. This rise in firearm homicides comes despite the fact that Democrats, gun control groups, and the establishment media constantly claim that states with the strictest gun controls see lower rates of violence and death.

Ayup – the thought of “mice and men” streams through my head at this. And yet, it is never enough. EVAH!

SJWs – Holding student grades over a statue; er, about that Power Imbalance they keep yammering about?

It is the end of the semester; my students did their final semester project Presentation and last night I finished up with the giving them their final grades.  One more “activity” done – six still left on the plate but this really will free up a lot of time (about a day to 2 days a week). Another month and one more will be done as well (but much less time has been spent on that this year).  So, in surfing around, it looks like others are also tallying up their students’ grades – and one set of SJWs are looking to use their students’ grades as a political cudgel (translation: no boundaries in conducting political warfare and it doesn’t matter who they hurt; reformatted, emphasis mine):

Teaching assistants at the University of North Carolina have threatened to hold up to 2,200 grades if school officials do not reconsider their plan for the controversial “Silent Sam” statue. This past Monday, UNC officials announced the memorial to Confederate soldiers would be housed in a new campus facility. That evening, protesters took to the streets to voice their displeasure. On Friday, activists announced online that 79 teaching assistants had signed a petition in opposition to the Silent Sam plan, and indicated they would “withhold [the] grades” if Chancellor Carol Folt and the UNC Board of Trustees did not relent.

I believe that the operative word is extortion – and they should be legally treated as extortionists!  All over the “Silent Sam” (an unknown Confederate soldier) statue that was toppled by student / SJW vandals because SLAVERY!  Anything they deem to be “wrong” must be destroyed, erased, and thrown down the Memory Hole – not just put somewhere else.

Data Point – Climate change is mostly about virtue-signaling, not actually doing (unless you are the US)

About that “Paris Accord”? Reformatted, emphasis mine:

Nineteen nations “believe” in climate change. How are they backing up their statement of faith? China was praised for signing on to the Paris Climate Agreement and in Argentina reaffirmed its commitment to controlling greenhouse gas emissions. Last year, however, China increased those emissions by 1.7 percentIndia, the fourth largest source for CO2, saw their emissions grow by 4.6 percent in 2017. Luckily for them, they too were praised for signing that “nonbinding communiqué.” Overall, the European Union raised their CO2 output by 1.5 percent. France, home of the Paris Agreement, is leading the diplomatic effort to save the planet. They increased their greenhouse gas emissions by 3.6 percent. . . .

If the nations paying lip service to climate change aren’t meeting their goals, imagine how poorly the oil-drilling, coal-mining Americans must be doing.
