Silencing the Public at the Nashua Budget Meetings – Right To Know
The City of Nashua has just begun the Budget Review Committee meeting for the 2023 budget. The City will hold 6-7 budget meetings over the next month. Per the City’s NRO 5-14, any committee of the Board shall have public comment at the beginning and the end of the meeting. Alderman Dowd, a seasoned politician, chairs this board. This year, Alderman Richard Dowd decided to cancel public comment and change the name of the meeting to a “working session”. Nowhere is “working session” defined in the charter, NRO’s or policy.

The People’s Republic of Keene has rescinded its mandatory mask mandate city-wide. The Nashua Board of Alderman is scheduled to revisit theirs tonight, and it seems likely it too will be mothballed.

Snow.

My name is John Cawthron. I am a resident of Nashua. The mask mandate put in place by the previous Board is hurting our city. I myself will not wear a mask and do not patronize any establishment in a city that enforces this mandate.

I have expressed my concerns regarding the fitness for duty of Steve Bolton, Nashua’s Corporation Counsel, through numerous private communications with the Mayor and the BOA. My concerns have fallen on deaf ears.
