Dear Board of Health members,
I am requesting that you hold either an emergency meeting or move your regular meeting to Monday, February 7th to provide a recommendation to the Board of Alderman to lift the mask mandate for their Tuesday, February 8th meeting.
There is time under RSA 91-A to post this legally. The data supports lifting this mandate, which was recommended without data gathering or enforcement. I pray the board will have the same nimble response in eliminating the mandate as you did in creating the mandate.
In a rare move, I entered two Nashua businesses yesterday, both unmasked. When I checked out, the clerk said ‘isn’t it great that the mask mandate is over?” I responded that it had been over for me for a while now. She chuckled. The woman at the next register overheard and questioned – it’s over?
The Clerk responded yes, it’s over – she peeled her mask off and walked out. I chuckled.
I entered the second store again unmasked and no one questioned me.
The NH Covid dashboard data is as follows: Yesterday, we were back to levels that existed in early November. At Southern, there was 1 Covid ICU patient over the weekend.
The hospital numbers have come down from a high 2 weeks ago of around 470 to 292. This is a dramatic drop for hospitals that were never overcapacity.
Additionally, the BoH failed to tell the public that additional ICU beds are set up yearly in the winter due to the heavier winter sickness season. This is not unusual at all. Not for a second do I believe that Nashua masking policy affected this.
This report was published in the Atlantic in mid-December and I think it is important for you to understand what your public reads because the Board provides no current information or reports for the public to review.
