Ah yes, the White House actually dared folks to ‘shop the picture; Grokster Susan has one here that speaks to the serious side of what Obama is trying to do (and it isn’t just the Second Amendment). *I* think, given his absolute personal disdain for guns and those that own them, this does a better … Read more
Or as Grokster Susan put it: Guns, Grub and Groksters!
But not in the way you think – every once in a while we Groksters all get together, go to a restaurant, have a good long meal, and yak. Yes, we normally gets heads turned around to stare at us as almost any topic that we discuss here on the ‘Grok gets discussed then – only faster, more in depth, and certainly a whole lot louder than just on the ‘Grok’s pages. Given our numbers, we do tend to stick out – big time – where ever we go!
Well, it had been a little while since we had a meeting, so I called one – Groksters AND wives, husbands, and girlfriends (for there would certainly be no GraniteGrok unless those special folks allowed us to do what we believe we need to be doing). So, yesterday, we gathered for a GrokMeet and…a GrokShoot.
Since becoming involved in Republican politics back after the 2006 elections where the Republicans first got mauled (for not understanding and standing up for what they used to say they were), I have said, over and over again, that elected Republicans needed to stay engaged with the local media outlets – write the guest columns, write the Letters to the Editor, and write the commentary. Scared of their own shadows and whatever political beliefs they held, none of the Establishment Old Guard bothered to do so (with the possible exception of doing so RIGHT before the election – just like some politicians that come to the Belknap County Republican meeting one meeting before Nov. 6th and one meeting afterwards – with the latter being mostly optional). Let’s not get Democrats riled up, eh? How’d that work out fer ya?
It has been very refreshing that I see folks that I am dubbing the New Conservative Republicans willing to stand up and do such – NH State Rep. and Belknap County Convention Chair Colette Worseman, NH State Reps Bob Greemore and Herb Vadney and some others. Finally, folks willing to answer back the Democrats instead of cowardly shivering in their shelters or retreating from the field of ideological battle (for make no mistake, the Democrats are even more ideologically based than many people with Rs after their names). Now I also get to add freshman NH State Rep Jane Cormier to the mix with this guest post that is also appearing in the Weirs Times:
Honor is the Only Way Out of This Mess!
(With a good dose of Conservatism, of course…)
Rep. Jane Cormier
As a newly elected member of the NH House of Representatives, (Belknap District 8 including the towns of Alton, Barnstead, and Gilmanton), I would like to introduce myself to you, the readers of the Weirs Times. I have long loved this local newspaper for its honesty and integrity. Each week, the Weirs Times offers a conservative platform which is reminiscent of former President Reagan and his definition of conservatism: “The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority and more individual freedom…”. How true. But, as a dedicated conservative, I also know personal honor is central in true conservatism. Without honor and integrity, especially from those who serve us in political office, our republic is doomed to fail. Honor is what makes us better as a nation and a people. Together, conservatism and honor are an unbeatable team. In my humble opinion, Republicans will start winning elections again when we embrace these two ideals. But, that is a discussion for another day.
This past Thursday was a Line in the Granite – People who take the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights of the US Constitution AND Article XX of the NH Constitution very seriously. They gathered on the steps of the NH Capitol this past Thursday to let the politicians under the Golden Dome know of their seriousness and willingness to fight for that Right – especially for efforts that will result legislation that will not solve the problems they purport to address.
Certainly there were a number of folks addressing the crowd (estimates ranging from 250 to over a thousand; I’ll stick with about 6-700 for a good show of folks on a poor weather work-day afternoon). Unfortunately, I could not be there due to work – thanks to Bill Wynne of the G

I was forwarded this email by Mary Bonser and she has given permission to publish it (emphasis mine, not Mary’s). I do wonder if the NH GOP will accept its warnings? After all, now former NH GOP Chair Wayne MacDonald claims that blogs are ruining the Party. Which is yet another problem – if a lowly blog can ruin an entire State Republican Party, one of two things is true (after Mary’s Letter):
Regina Birdsell, Chairman
Rockingham County Republican Committee
P.O. Box 772
Exeter, NH 03833
January 27, 2013
Dear Regina,
Please accept my resignation as a Committee Member and Area 3, Vice Chairman for the Rockingham County NH Republican Committee. I will also be leaving the Republican Party.
As a woman in my sixty’s this is not a decision that I make lightly, as I have been a Republican all of my adult life. However, it is something I have been seriously considering for almost 2 years as I have watched the NH Republican Party lose its noble purpose and stumble in on itself.
Saturday’s Annual Republican State Committee Meeting was a watershed moment for me and for the NH Republican Party.
At the meeting it became clear that the party has no idea that it is in a rut of inconsequentiality and proceeded in major ways to dig the rut deeper. It was a ridiculous demonstration of awarding people who have failed demonstratively with, what amounted to, “participation awards”, merely for showing up, apparently.
I can no longer waste my time with a party that operates in a stifling bell jar of delusions of former grandeur. The NH Republican Party is now the pathetic old high school football star that still wears his “letter” jacket and hangs out in the town square as the world leaves him farther and farther behind. The NH Republican Party has lost its way and doesn’t know it, and doesn’t want to know it, and anyone who tries to tell them is marginalized and even demonized.
Back on the road tomorrow at the NH GOP meeting at the Bedford High School – schlepping all the equipment and hoping to be able to live stream from there and talk to interesting people. And yes, Groksters get to vote as well – new by-laws and new officers. It should turn out to be…..interesting. … Read more

All organizations need a Number Two person, and at this place in time for the the NH GOP, a good one is needed indeed. While NH State Rep Al Baldasaro led off the 2nd Amendment Rally on Saturday, NH State Rep JR Hoell also addressed the crowd and I caught up with him afterwards for a quick interview on his take of HB135 and the Democrats wishing to strip away the ability of NH Citizens to defend themselves where … Read more
As speakers continued to address the crowd at the Pro-2nd Amendment Rally this past Saturday, I continued to watch the crowd to see if I could find some folks to interview. While I was doing the recording of the Free Staters’ “Thank YOU!” to NH State Rep. Cynthia Chase, I saw a man coming up … Read more
From time to time, we accept and post up guest posts from either folks that we consider to be “notables” or from someone who has something to say. I have also had the policy that I accept anonymous submissions as well and have put some up in the past – people who have something to say but cannot afford to reveal their identity for fear of retribution. This post has both attributes:
“DEPUTY DAWG” as quoted by the Union Leader. Wednesday, January 23, 2013.
“I was in the Army. We used to say the best defense is a good offense,” Shurtleff said. “But I do not believe that should be true on the streets of New Hampshire.’ The Deputy is implying that, if left to our own devices, we the people will become proponents what he called “the best defense is a good offence”; i.e. we would shoot first?
If his HB 135 is passed, the streets of New Hampshire will offer every criminal armed with a weapon, bats, knives and even toy guns to harm anyone at will, without fear for their lives.
The Deputy is retired from the U.S. Marshals Service and has immunity from his HB 135, under “The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA). Will he leave his home without his “piece” so he can defend himself?

I will add this: with his utterance, that Paladin correctly identifies, of “I was in the Army. We used to say the best defense is a good offense” shows a radical and perverse view of armed lawfully abiding citizens (common among Socialists and Democrats in law making positions, it seems). It also shows a weak example of Obama-lite: a strawman argument that ascribes a combat mentality to a civilian population that is accepted by no one (except by Shurtleff himself).
This past Saturday was a two-fer for rallies that we attended. The first one was a Right To Life Rally and March – a Pro-Life affirmation that even the unborn children deserve have the Right to live a full and exemplary life even in the face of the 40th anniversary of Roe vs Wade. After … Read more

Also at the Right To Live Rally this past Saturday at the NH State House was Ovide Lamontagne – easily the “Gentleman of NH Politics”. He has always been a strong advocate for the Right To Life; thus, seeing him with his ready smile was not a surprise. While he chided me a tad for … Read more
Representative Chase? A message from the Free Staters of NH from the 2nd Amendment Rally – to paraphrase Sally Fields “We really like you, we really do!”. Note to Cynthia – if you REALLY thought that your outburst was going to chase them off, well, they have a sign for you: Heh!
Along with the Right To Life Rally, there was a Second Amendment rally at the State Capital in Concord – I would have to say at least 400 enthusiastic, full throated, and intense gun owners and those whose political beliefs do not ride on the latest political fad but on the simple words of the … Read more
