The Return of The Bride of The Son of SB 11 [Date of vote confirmed]

New Hampshire Senate Bill 11 will get a formal vote in the House this week, according to a post at CNHT.org.   The post states the full vote is May 22, but was sent to me with an update: the vote will be held this Wednesday, May 15th.

(Note: We received confirmation.  The vote is Wednesday May 22nd)

The date hardly matters, except as relates to our need to act against it.  To the best of my knowledge this is the same exact bill that was set aside last week.  No effort has been made to deal with the broad language that set off red flags last week.  It is still a bad bill.

There is also the question of why this bill is even needed…

CNHT asks…

“…why do Exeter and Stratham need this legislation which “permits municipalities to establish water and/or sewer utility districts and to enter into intermunicipal agreements for the establishment of such districts” considering that the Merrimack Valley Water District has been in existence since 2004 by virtue of RSA Statutes: Chapter 53-A, Chapter 33-B, Chapter 38, and Chapter 362.”

If statutory authority already exists, why introduce a bill like SB 11, with such broad language, unless you are after something more?

House Republican Leaders Comment on Passage of Fiscally Irresponsible Budget

CONCORD – House Republican Leader Gene Chandler (R-Bartlett) and Ranking Republican on the House Finance Committee, Rep. Neal Kurk (R-Weare), offered the following comments in reaction to the passage of HB1 and HB2, the bills dealing with the State budget.

Rep. Gene Chandler (R-Bartlett), House Republican Leader

“When 40,000 people in our State are looking for work, this budget will squeeze an additional $39 million out of our small businesses that they would have otherwise been able to reinvest to grow and create jobs. When incomes are stagnant, this budget raises the gas tax, tobacco taxes and down shifts costs that will raise property taxes. When our roads and bridges need attention, this budget diverts and additional $27 million from the highway fund to other agencies. When our economy is struggling to grow at 2% per year, this budget grows government by more than 5% per year. It’s not a logical plan to grow our economy.”

Stand With Stephen Forster & Forster’s Christmas Tree Farm

The Town of Henniker has cited Stephen Forster (Forster’s Christmas Tree Farm) with illegal use of his property. But State law provides that Mr. Forster may use his property for Agri-tourism,  also known as “agriculture,” a legitimate use of the land. Henniker has apparently acknowledged this but will not rescind its citation unless they are … Read more

Dateline Dover NH: Judge Lewis Hear’s Motions to Intervene…or Something.

Today Superior Court Judge John Lewis (D- Durham), will hear from a number of individuals who object to this rubber-stamping the ACLU’s request to suspend voter registration requirements relating to domicile.  Lewis agreed with the ACLU and League of Women voters.   The AG and Secretary of state are on that list of those who disagree, as are a few others, each asking that the hasty decision be rolled back.

But one of the most important factors weighing in on today’s hearing has to be that the New Hampshire State Supreme Court has already declared jurisdiction over the case and will fast track their hearing should Judge Lewis fail to clean up the mess he has created.

So what happened at the hearing today?

New Hampshire's Torch of Freedom, as seen from the Maine seacoast....

One of the great things about my chosen home of New Hampshire—like a majority of people in the state, it’s not where I grew up—is the extraordinary number of friends and people I get to visit and talk to (thank you RLCNH and GraniteGrok.com and NH GOP).

One such conversation recently was a true eye-opener. Scary even….

The speech transcript:

Coalition of NH Taxpayers – July 7, 2012

Will we continue to bring government back to essential purpose of protecting freedoms and not assuming that it must find a solution to every problem, real or imagined?

In concluding his 3rd State of the Union Speech almost 30 years ago, Ronald Reagan left us a guide for the never-ending battle for freedom.  He said,

Let us be sure that those who come after will say . . . that in our time we did everything that could be done. We finished the race; we kept them free; we kept the faith.

The Great Communicator also warned us that,

Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.

In our time – this legislative term in New Hampshire in Concord – there are those among us who did everything we could.

  • We cut state-funded spending by 18% because the over-spenders had left us almost a $900 million deficit.
