The Biden-Harris Ticket on Religious Freedom

The Biden-Harris ticket has a position on religious freedom. Joe Biden promises to protect religious freedom… except when it is politically inconvenient. Both he and Harris advocate policies contrary to the religious convictions of many Americans. Joe and Kamala know the right words to say. We all have a right to practice our faith openly, … Read more

Basketball Player Uses Girlfriend’s Urine to Fake Drug Test, Finds Out He’s Pregnant. I can only imagine the look on his face when he was told he was transgender (heh!). Pregnancy vs drug tests – which is the chicken and which is the egg? (H/T: Instapundit)

And so it begins – resisting religious tyranny

Obama - shows more deference to Islam in Afghanistan than to First Amendment freedom for religion here in the USAlthough the political conversation over the last week or so has been Obama’s personal redefinition of what traditional marriage is, let’s not forget that he and HHS Secretary Sebelius decided that they were after yet another “First” – the First Administration that felt they had the authority to redefine what a religious organization is or could be.  Function as a house of worship (for now)?  “There was an exception for that!” with respect for the supremacy of the Right to Conscience – although the HHS mandate required that all health plans for employees provided for abortions, abortifacients, sterilizations, and birth control.

But if you are a religious outreach or ministry of some type (e.g., halfway house, hospital, educational, soup kitchen – anything that demonstrated a caring for the poor, the downtrodden, or the needy), even if connected to a House of Worship, Obama and Sebelius decided that they could decide that you were NOT a religious organization for their means.

As the cartoon shows (sent by Grok friend Karen a bit ago), we see exactly what Obama thinks of the First Amendment:

Rebuttal to Alison Therriault – No, there is no extreme jeopardy to women’s right to control their lives in NH

by Skip

I submitted this in rebuttal to a Letter to the Editor in the Laconia Daily Sun (P. 7, March 23, 2012) (slightly expanded here):

It used to be that becoming an adult meant becoming independent and being self-responsible for their own well-being. Economic dependency on family was left behind along with the toys of childhood. It meant sober realization that what one wants, one earns. “Deserves” becomes relegated to childhood status;”earned”, its mature replacement.

Ms. Therriault shows her wish for maturity in stating “I control my body”. True enough; that’s what adults do – exhibit self-control. You have the ability to decide, within the statistical limits of reliable birth control and human discipline, how many children to have, when to have them, and when to start that family (it seems, too, that marriage is becoming more and more optional in today’s society. No wonder single moms are becoming the biggest proponents of “Government that gives you more with other peoples’ money” but that is grist for another letter).

And if you think that I am misquoting Senator Jeanne Shaheen and saying she cherishes abortion over Liberty, read her own words

by Skip

“…a power grab as Government is reaching into yet another part of our private lives to force us to fulfill the selfishness of Progressive politicians such as yourself, putting your ideology ahead of our freedoms”.

From her own official US Senator website and the transcript of her Senate floor address from Feb 7.  Read through it – how often do you read the words “freedom” or “liberty”?  Does she quote one of the Founders?  Does she reference the Constitution?  Does she talk about Government overreach?  Does she talk about freedom of choice for all people, regardless of any special identity group?

What is her highest value?

…I also commend the President for standing up for women’s health and reaffirming the recommendation of the Institute of Medicine to protect access to affordable birth control for all women.  The decision to require health plans’ coverage of contraception with no copays or deductibles will change the lives of millions of women and their families for the better.

Ah yes, the Institute of Medicine – this batch of unelected bureaucrats have decided, in all of their fantabulous wisdom, that their pronouncement of a “want” (or even a “maybe should have”).  Look, in terms of actual medical advice, they certainly should give it.  But the United States is neither a hospital or an academic Ivory Tower.  Instead, this is a political matter, a cultural matter, and one that should be rightly measured against the timeless principles of the Constitution.

What Jeanne has shown us, however, the game plan is plain from a Progressive’s standpoint: consult “the experts”, do not question them, and immediately put their expert recommendations into policy.  After all, they know better what we need than we do.

My questions is,  how long do the Progressives think that they can play King Canute and believe they can tell the Laws of Economics to suspend themselves (“with no copays or deductibles”).
