GraniteGrok: Conservative? Check! ‘Grok: TEA Party? Check! Bill O’Brien supporters? Check! Mark Hounsell seeking out the ‘Grok as a platform? Hypocrite!

Mark HounsellDuring the Womens’ Defense League of NH‘s annual Gun Rally, Mark Housell ( now FORMER candidate for US Congress in NH’s CD-1) actively sought me out (not hard to miss – ‘Grok hat on, camera in tow) almost as soon as a “late arrived) to have me do an interview.  We tried to do it right then but the volume of the PA system was too loud so he waited until after the event had concluded – which took quite some time.  Then he waited as I interviewed several other people first so it was clear that he craved the publicity this Conservative, TEA Party, Bill O’Brien, multiple AFP award winning site could provide him.  Yet, this is what he told the Laconia Daily Sun as he exited the race (reformatted, emphasis mine:

Hounsell did say that those pushing a liberal agenda are making “blatant and unabashed attempts to buy New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District with out-of-state money,” while the state’s Republican party “is hog-tied by right-wing extremists passing as conservatives.”

Hounsell disagreed with the “big tent” analogy [of NH GOP Forrester’s big tent analogy -Skip]. “The people who are in that big tent are doing all they can to change it from a big tent to a pup tent,” he said, naming Bill O’Brien and Americans for Prosperity. “If you don’t pass their so-called purity test, you’re not really part of it. I don’t fit their definition of what a conservative is; that is, neo-con, Tea [sic] Party.

AFP – Remembering Andrew Breitbart.

March 01, 2013 A year ago today we were stunned by the loss of the prolific, insightful and passionate new-media general Andrew Breitbart. Breitbart’s persona was larger than life and his impact far greater than any circumstance. It is fitting then that his zany style and online ferocity effectively converted an army of thousands, each … Read more

Apparently, what was not good for the goose IS good for the gander

Obama’s political promises all come with expiration dates – every.single.one.of.them.  It seems that his political taunts do as well – at least those that can help him if he conveniently forgets that he used them against his enemies earlier.  Like when being a non-profit was BAAAD for Americans for Prosperity and but now good for his campaign organization assuming the exact same non-profit structure (it will allow him to hide the identity of HIS donors – malfeasance he accused AFP of during the campaign).

AFP certainly noticed the hypocrisy:

Today Americans for Prosperity, a nationwide organization of citizen leaders with over 2 million activists and 34 state chapters, released a new video poking fun at the president for his new non-profit, tax exempt group.

OFA Goes After ‘Dark Money’ (Wait -Is that Racist?)

From one 501-c4 to another, American’s for Prosperity–which was attacked by Obama and the media for being a 501-c4–would like to know what changed…other than Obama for America “changing” its name to to “Organizing for Action”…aaannnnd becoming a…501-c4. Americans for Prosperity Blogger of the Month – Steve Mac Donald!

AFP LogoYesterday, Steve let us know that AFP had selected him as their Blogger of the Month – my immediate response was:

YAAAAAAAYYYY!!!!!!!!  Way to go Steve!

Absolutely tickled pink!  In my estimation, well deserved.  Just about every day, Steve has made sure to let us know what his opinion is on a whole range of topics from those here in NH to national ones.  In all cases, he writes from a Conservative / Libertarian viewpoint and always trying to show how these pertain to the enhancement of personal Liberty and Freedom (or not) and free markets.  He has always amazed me with how he brings in different issues to his main point – and he wields his keyboard as a virtual stiletto in skewering the object of his disdain.  In each of his posts, there is almost always a “line to remember”.

Michigan AFP Tent Truthers?

You’ve heard by now, I hope, that the American’s for Prosperity (AFP) Tent in Lansing, Michigan (State Capital), was knocked down and overrun by angry Union protesters–while some activists remained trapped underneath?   (You can find Grok Coverage on that and more  here, here, here, and here.) AFP was there on the front lines to educate and … Read more

Update AFP -Michigan

Right to Work Coming Soon to Michigan
Right to Work Coming Soon… to Michigan!

Right to work Bills have passed both Houses of the Michigan State Legislature and the governor has already said he’d sign them into law.

Earlier today Tim Condon updated us with the video of union protesters knocking down the Americans for Prosperity tent in Lansing, trapping some activists under it.  It’s sad but none of us were surprised by this. Nor are we surprised by this from a recent email blast by Tim Phillips, President of Americans For Prosperity

Right now, the Left—union bosses, special interest groups, and even President Obama himself—is ramping up pressure for him to not sign these necessary workers’ rights reforms.

Tim Phillips continues…

GrokTV Event: AFPF Defending the American Dream – Adam Nicholson

Events the size of the Americans for Prosperity Foundation’s Defending the American Dream Summit 2012 take a lot of project management – setting up the overall theme, what workshops to offer (what are the activists needs all up and down the experience levels?), what speakers can energize and inform the attendees, what venue is big enough to handle all this not just with meeting rooms and big halls, but with food, beds, power, video provisioning, audio provisioning, ISDN lines, tables, chairs, lights, power cords (yes, sufficient power can be a BIG deal – the Hilton Washington DC had to bring in a massively huge trailer with diesel generators to supply all the additional power!) – you name it, somebody has to realize that it is needed, get it, put it into place or have it ready when needed, set it up, fix it when it fails, and make sure it doesn’t grow legs and walk off (yes, Security).

Here, we talk with Adam Nicholson, State Communications Director for AFP.  His gig for for the event was to plan and provision Radio Row while creating the schedule all of the live and recorded broadcasts for all of the radio shows that decided that the cost of doing remotes at Defending the American Dream was a great idea (as well as your lowly blogger!).  While we worked with him on getting our slots for Radio Row and getting guests to interview, this Project Management gig for the event is not what he usually does – have a listen!

GrokTV Event: AFPF Defending the American Dream – NH GOP edition (sorta)

Travel 500 miles and what do you get?  NH folks who are willing to talk with you.  Earlier, it was Bill O’Brien, Speaker of the NH House that attended a couple of the workshops that the Americans for Prosperity Foundation had at its Defending the American Dream Summit 2012.  This time, it was two activists, Diane Bitter and Alan Glassman who were on the hot seat and helping me out was fellow Grokster Don Ewing.

Funny thing; both Don and I are Members of the NH GOP State Committee yet ended up grilling Diane (Rye Republican Chair, an NH GOP area Vice-Chair, and Assistant Secretary, and is a much beloved and respected activist in the TEA Party / 9-12 Project / Liberty & Freedom movement) and Alan (Barnstead-Alton Republican Committee, Belknap County Republican Committee, and also an NH GOP Area Vice-Chair) on a number of topics including one that was prescient for what came up at this week’s Belknap County Republican meeting – NH GOP Leadership unwilling to maintain Party discipline when elected Republicans “stain the brand”.

GrokTV Event: AFPF Defending the American Dream – NH Speaker of the House Bill O’Brien

AFP - Defending American Dream 2012This past weekend was the Americans for Prosperity’s Defending the American Dream Summit; a gathering of free market and Liberty and Freedom loving activists who came to go to workshops to sharpen their skills and to listen to an impressive list of well known (and loved) Conservative and Liberty speakers.  GraniteGrok was invited to come  and spent the weekend on Radio Row where, obviously enough, radio talk hosts came in to do their shows remotely and to interview some of the speakers and notables that were at the event (we were the only blogsite allowed and the only ones doing live video of our interviewees!). So besides the first interview series (“What is your American Dream – and Obama’s?“), we had a fair number of folks to yak with.  What was curious were the number of NH folks that came down from NH to attend the workshops, listen to the speakers, and of course, stop by Radio Row and yak with us!  Imagine that – travel over 500 miles just to be with GraniteGrok!

And one of them was a surprise to see: NH Speaker of the House Bill O’Brien.  Part 1 here, Parts 2 and 3 after the jump.

AFPF American Dream Summit – This pretty much summed up the mood!

Americans For Prosperity - Defending the Dream Summit 2012-SummaryWell, got home at about 2:15 am this morning.  Am absolutely convinced that Washington DC is the pits to try to get out of when you are driving a car, don’t know the city, and the GPS is absolutely convinced that you HAVE to go up the street that the DC DPW folks have closed for repairs (3 times, in fact!).  I consider it an hour stolen from the life.

AFPF American Dream Summit – “What is your American Dream? Obama’s version?”

Well, I didn’t get the interviews I wanted to this morning at the Americans for Prosperity Defending the American Dream Summit, so I changed gears and found a number of attendees just arriving that agreed to a quick Grok “micro-interview”.  Two questions:

  1. What is your version of the American Dream?
  2. Contrast that with what you think the Obama Administration’s version of the American Dream is?

Short, simple, and to the point.  Even two of my old Samsphere blogger buddies, Bob Weeks and Eric Telford, assented to answering my questions.  So, what were the answers?

Americans for Prosperity Foundation: Defend the American Dream Summit 2012

I drove down here to DC yesterday for AFP’s Defending the American Dream Summit 2012.  There’s a packed agenda  for sure, and I have some slots tomorrow (10 – 2pm) and on Saturday ( 8 – 3pm) for the ‘Grok to be on Radio Row so am hoping nab some good interviews.  I’ll put up “sticky posts” when we go live.

AFP-NH has released its 2011-2012 Legislative scorecard for New Hampshire.  In my review of the score card results there is not much that will surprise anyone who makes it a habit of paying attention to what happens in Concord.   But not everyone lurks in the Political sausage factory so lets take a quick review.

NH House Score Card…

Every Democrat in the New Hampshire House received an ‘F’ except for Domingo Baldwin in Stafford County and John Gilmas in Hillsborough;  They both got a C.

And the NH House Republicans who got an ‘F’ like the majority of Democrats…
