Crashing the “bash”

Concord, NH- At one point about 30 protesters gathered outside the Hermanos Cocina Restaurant in Concord NH on Monday night to greet as many partygoers as they arrived for a far left bash with the nutroots blogger Markos Moulitsas Zuniga, better known as the creator of the “Daily Kos”. Additional special guests were our two US House reps– recently the objects of a missing persons "milk carton" campaign— Carol Shea-Porter and Paul Hodes.

While the scarce-pair dined with their fellow ‘Kossacks’, cars drove by and beeped and waved at the sidewalk Tea Partiers in solidarity.

Every so often, one of the attendees would come out and engage us as we walked up and down the sidewalk in protest of present policies and proposals all destined to ruin our market system and economy as we know it. At one point, Skip started to do a video discussion with one, but when pressed with facts, he went away, apparently unwilling to face such things. Early on, to his credit, Hodes came up the sidewalk and had a few polite words with several of the folks lining the path, but nothing prolonged, nor of substance. THAT he no doubt was saving for his comrades at the private party.

Later on, an apparently clueless/angry woman came out of the restaurant approached Jane and Ann Marie and asked, “Who ARE you?”

Writes Jane:

Being that we are no one special, “just people” was our reply. She then asked where we get our information. “Common sense” we said. She then tried to play the ‘blame Bush’ game so we reminded her that it wasn’t going to work anymore.

After all, Bush had nothing to do with the failed $787B stimulus package, the $181B deficit of July alone, and we also reminded her that what with Medicare, Amtrak and the PO going broke under government management, how could that same government expect to take over everyone’s health care, even if that WAS constitutional, to which she replied emphatically, “YOU MAKE ME SICK”.

Ah yes… typical and predictable. Proof if anything that these people are clueless and don’t have much ammo in their boxes or brains in their heads — and definitely working off pure emotions incited by the Obama media.

When another cranky partygoer walked by me as I was holding the Obama/Joker image, she called me a "racist" and that I "should be thrown in the stockade." I guess she wasn’t feeling very tolerant at that moment. As she got in her car and began to drive away, she stopped in the road, rolled down her window, and started barking at us one last time before finally leaving.

To our surprise, a short while later, she joined us! Having been sufficiently rattled by our presence, and unable to accept the reality that there are people that disagree with the left-wing agenda promoted by loons like her and her comrades partying with Hodes and Shea Porter, she was back toting her own sign and took a position just down from where we were stationed:

Hey Carol, DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS!

I got this note from Jim in Texas:

Although not a resident of New Hampshire, I have a very good friend there that keeps me informed of what is going on there and the misinformation that is flowing throughout the country.

I am a resident of Texas and have been for the past 18 years. I am a transplant from the Midwest and it was one of the best moves I have ever made.

Texas is a wonderful state in which to live and work. There is no state income tax here and it is pro business thus pro growth. Texas today is ranked at the top of the country in job creation and currently has a budget surplus even without state income taxes.

Now I have been following, through my friend, the debate in New Hampshire over healthcare reform and it is become obvious to me that your Representatives are doing their best to distort the record of Texas and anyone else opposed to Obamacare.

I read the Shea-Porter comments regarding healthcare and particularly laughed when I heard that Tort reform wasn’t working in Texas. (Click here for audio of CSP’s remark) Obviously right out of the leftwing playbook, Shea-Porter is doing her best to carry Pelosi-Obama water but Shea-Porter like the President is playing loose with the facts.

There is no question that healthcare has to be reformed but you cannot have true healthcare reform without addressing tort reform along with all other issues.

Tort reform in TX was initiated in TX by GW Bush in 1995 and was amended in 2003 by Rick Perry. It capped malpractice claims which affected the amount of insurance a Doctor has to carry thus the cost to doctors. As a result the number of doctors in Texas increased by 57% since 2003 which improved healthcare and reduced medical complaints. The so-called public “option”—no less than a government takeover of the entire health care system—is apparently off the table. Senator Kent Conrad (D-ND), appearing on FOX News Sunday, said, “The fact of the matter is there are not the votes in the United States Senate for a public option. There never have been.”

Not that it matters in the great scheme of things. Because the American people’s adamant opposition to ObamaCare does not matter all that much to their representatives. Besides expanding government’s reach to control the lives of the American people, what matters most to Congressmen are their prospects for reelection. They desire nothing more.

And now the American people are learning that, at least in the Senate, they are not willing to lose their seats over this bill.

To put this revelation in perspective, despite having 58 Democrat Senators plus two Independent Senators that caucus with them, and 256 Representatives—more than enough to pass any bill they desire—Congressional Democrats allegedly cannot summon the votes in the Senate to enact their top agenda item: socialized medicine. And why might that be?

The American people have made their voices loud and clear: They do not want a government takeover of their health care. They do not want rationing boards to eliminate “overhead” costs and cut out “unnecessary” tests and procedures that really means less quality care administered to America’s seniors. They do not want the unsustainable debt the program would produce to be passed on to their children and their children’s children.

However, while a prominent senator declaring the public “option” dead on arrival in the Senate is certainly good news for the American people, it should be taken with a grain of salt.

Congressional opposition to this proposal is contingent upon the continued opposition by the American people to a proposal that threatens no less than the quality of health care their families and friends receive.

And if the American people stop making phone calls, writing letters, and visiting with their Congressmen to express their opposition to the takeover, then representatives may start to believe that the coast is clear. That perhaps they can get away with it. And that is when they can and will deliver the deathblow to the nation’s health care system.

Since when has speaking up become “un-American”?

I was in Portsmouth on Tuesday broadcasting “On The Air With Jennifer Horn” live from outside President Barack Obama’s town hall at Portsmouth High School. I had a firsthand view of the protests that took place, and there is no question that there is a certain “Astroturf” sensibility to some of these protests.

But, at least in Portsmouth, it was not the anti-government, health care protest that looked manufactured. With charter buses dropping off crowds of protesters from other states, professionally printed signs and an AFL-CIO banner, it was the smaller group of pro-government health care protesters that had the appearance of corporate organization.

Since when have we, as a nation, demonized the expression of free speech? For the past few weeks, citizens across the country have been attending the town halls of their elected representatives to express their concerns about the massive redefinition of health care delivery contained in H.R. 3200, and they have been excoriated and attacked for doing so.

They have been referred to as mobs by the press, told by the president of the United States to “get out of the way” and were called “un-American” by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democratic Rep. Steny Hoyer, of Maryland. They have been shouted at, assaulted and, in one case in Michigan, threatened in the dark at their own home after speaking up about their concerns.

In 2003, then-Sen. Hillary Clinton said: “Since when has it been part of American patriotism to keep our mouths shut?” She was right. The cornerstone of our democracy is our First Amendment right to free speech. The First Amendment also guarantees our right to “petition the government for a redress of grievances.”

When the president tells you to get out of the way, the House speaker calls you un-American and your elected representatives refuse to hold town halls for their constituents, public protest becomes the only redress left to you.

You REALLY want to “reform” healthcare in America? Here’s how…

There are two things you never talk about at work- politics and religion. This  week John McKay, the CEO of Whole Foods, broke that rule is now paying the price. On Tuesday Mr. Mckay wrote into the Wall Street Journal and editorial about Obamacare–in fact the article is entitled “The Whole Foods Alternative to Obamacare”.

Mr. McKay, the founder and CEO of one of the “greenest” companies in the country, gave a perspective to the healthcare debate that has been sorely missing: that of a business owner.  Mr. McKay lays out 8 things that he would like to see done in regards to healthcare and they are fantastic. In fact I was shocked to read them, as I had wrongly assumed that the owner of such a company would have to be in the bag for Obama and his agenda. Boy was I wrong!
