The Obama Administration is convinced that their latest planned regulatory regime for everyday appliances will put more money in people’s pockets by forcing changes meant to reduce the cost of operating them.

People who can’t afford a car do save an awful lot of money on gas.  I suppose we could apply this same thinking to microwaves, refrigerators,  stove tops, ovens, ranges, dishwashers (and every other appliance eventually).  If you can’t afford the appliance you will save on all the electricity it would have used, right?

The planned regulations would make appliances cost more. and likley eliminate any and all low cost appliances that can’t meet the governments mandated standards.

While the rules may save a bit of energy (and there is nothing wrong with that, though it should be the consumer choice, not Government Mandate), it will also drive up the cost of the appliances/devices, which will harm the lower and middle classes.

Even under the best of circumstances the progressive nanny-state compulsion to centrally plan is based on the idea that individuals with money and power cannot be trusted to do right by anyone else.  Nor do they trust a free people, exercising choices with their own dollars, to act as a check on others.

The progressive solution to this problem is to take that money and power and entrust to individuals and agencies of government, who– free from interference from producers and consumers–will decide what is best.

My fellow Americans:

We have all been saddened and outraged by the vicious videotape of Islamic State terrorists beheading an American journalist. Our hearts go out to James Foley’s family.  However, anger and sympathy are not solutions.  We, the American people, must come together in a righteous determination to defend freedom and civilization from barbarism, savagery, and terrorism.

We must calmly, methodically, and with the same grim determination we brought to winning World War II, implement strategies that eliminate the growing worldwide threat of radical Islamists prepared to kill us as individuals and our values as a civilization.

From the President through all his Progressive surrogates (Maggie Hassan, Jeanne Shaheen, Carol Shea-Porter, and Annie Kuster included) you hear that America has all these issues that make America bad, bad, and badder. They say we have these inequalities (of pretty much the kind that appear out of nothingness and into the nothingness that is permanently between their ears when it comes to Individual control (but as dense as lead when it comes to Collective control)); we have social inequalities they say – some real but mostly perceived, – but to solve them these Progressive politicians divide us by gender, they divide us by race, divide us by socioeconomic status and demographics (sure, toss in whatever the heck sex / gender means anymore).  And they say the way to solve all our problems and make everybody happy is to mandate equality of outcome.  If we just make you all the same, you’ll all be happy.

Now, if this had happened at any other point in the year, I would be less suspicious, but the weekend before the primary when that is where the candidate grades are posted, the coincidence demands speculation.

• Does Scott Brown have even more to hide?
• Is Walt doing more than just hiding his residency to avoid taxes?

One candidate for governor of New Hampshire has the financial resources (millions of dollars, largely his own) to plaster the airwaves with self-promoting propaganda, 30 seconds at a time.

The other candidate, Andrew Hemingway, can afford to run some ads during the last few days of his campaign, but he’s counting on grassroots support by word-of-mouth from people who know him.

I know Andrew. I know him very well, having served with him as an elected official in Bristol — he was the chair of the budget committee, when I was the selectman member of the committee. I want to offer these first hand observations and you can decide if this is someone you’d like to see as your governor.

Fact: In the years prior to Andrew’s service as budget committee chair, the budget process was cumbersome and cantankerous. So much so, it was impossible to find 13 people who wanted to serve on the budget committee and there was open hostility between the budget committee, department heads, and selectmen. Andrew set a tone of civility and respect that was infectious. He repaired the relationships with the department heads and selectmen, so that it became cordial and not confrontational. The committee had a full complement of 13 members. The end result was a reduced budget that was presented to Town Meeting that had the unanimous support of selectmen, department heads, the town administrator and budget committee — to the penny. The body at Town Meeting decided to add money to the budget. Can you imagine?

The Daily Signal is reporting crime rates in Chicago after the state of Illinois ‘Relaxed” its gun control laws.  Illinois is issuing concealed carry permits to law-abiding citizens, even though all the Liberal ‘lights’ continue to resist.

The data will  mean nothing to them because crime has nothing to do with liberal gun policy.  But it should mean something to everyone else.

In 2004 Ohio began issuing Concealed Carry permits.  In 2012 they issued 76,810 permits.  In 2013 that number rose to 145,342 (which includes renewals). Then there’s this story...

An Ohio woman who is licensed to carry a gun but had only recently started carrying one for protection put it to good use earlier this week.

“Two gentlemen came out of the woods, one holding a baseball bat, and said ‘You’re coming with us,’” Burns told WBNS, adding that Gracie was little help in deterring the men.

“I said, ‘Well, what do you want?,’ and as I was saying that I reached in to my pocket and slipped my gun out, slipped the safety off as I pulled it out,” Burns said.
