Dover, NH has an interesting voter checklist.

It seems that Republican candidates can get a hundred pieces of their political mail returned when mailing first class to just two wards, but Democrats get just a handful of returned mail, if any, from voters they claim to have known personally who moved or passed away.

How can that be?

Yesterday I had the privilege of presenting some hard facts to the entire Ballot Law Commission (BLC) regarding the “unprecedented” citizen petition (RSA 654:38) to purge the voter checklist in Dover , NH . The petition was the idea of Dover resident David Scott a former Dover City Councilman and State Rep.

Dave Scott lost a race in Dover back in 2004 by 30 votes. He mailed 300 letters to same day voters in that race and 150 came back undeliverable by the USPS. He became suspect of the Dover checklist and how many people on this list of about 15 thousand really live in Dover .

In 2006, State Rep. Phyllis Woods ran for re-election and did a targeted mailing of voters in two wards getting back about 100 post cards as “undeliverable.” Rep Woods gave The Coalition of NH Taxpayers those and other returned mail, which I used as an exhibit yesterday.

This hearing was about a new mailing David Scott did weeks after this last November 4, 2014 election.

Once again with Spring, the little birdies start tweeting again – even if Spring is measuring 11 degrees outside and this is pretty good one.  So, one would think that the NH House Speaker Shawn Jasper (Democrat appointed, if you don’t already know) would be a fine upstanding supporter of Free Speech.  After all, not only is Free Speech protected by the US Constitution:

First Amendment, US Constitution:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

But so does our NH Constitution, as the Bill of Rights comes FIRST in our Constitution – to protect Individuals FIRST (and then and only then does it talk about Government):

[Art.] 22. [Free Speech; Liberty of the Press.] Free speech and liberty of the press are essential to the security of freedom in a state: They ought, therefore, to be inviolably preserved.

And if our Lawmakers can’t even follow that, well, they (at the least) deserve all the mocking that we citizens can muster!  After all, they ALL swore an oath to protect and preserve it – not to ignore or subvert it.  And the words make it clear – Inviolate to deny Free Speech to an Individual. But, I guess, the Democrat supported NH Speaker of the House has decided that he knows better and has his own Pen and Phone:

I have said for years that the primary reason why the NH Highway Fund is in such a stupid financial position is that Politicians refuse to do the right thing – let that fund do what it is supposed to fund and stop raiding it.  And, instead of constantly using taxpayers to pay for the lack of true priorities by lazy politicians (who love to claim they have “solved” the crisis – but rarely ante up that Government created the problem in the first place).

Lately, the “wonder cure” is to put expenditures on auto-pilot – which is exactly what and how the Highway Fund has been used.  And it is in BIG trouble because that auto-pilot has been buffeted like a jet in the thunderstorm as politicians keep taking, and taking, and taking more out of it.

Thankfully, it seems like SOMEONE has decided that this cannot continue and one of the smartest Legislators in the NH House is trying to do the Very Right thing.  Yet another little birdie sang what seemed to be a happy, melodious song to me this morning – and then the Democrat appointed NH Speaker of the House and his Majority Leader decided that their duet would go off key – from my taxpayer ear, rather flat indeed:

I share Leon R. Albushies’s concern (see his 3/11/15 letter in the Laconia Daily Sun, laconiadailysun.com) about our failing public schools and what that means for our society, freedoms, and prosperity.  Public education has been declining for at least the last 50 years, especially since the Federal Government has increasingly controlled public education.

Why do our public schools provide such poor results?  Are American children less capable than other children before they go to our public schools?  No.  Is funding the issue?  No.  Some schools with the worst results spend $25,000 to $30,000 per student.  Public education costs have increased as fast as healthcare costs, but without improvements.

Our public schools don’t provide better educational results because providing better educations to our children is a lower priority than the self-interests of those in charge of public education, the educational establishment (e.g., teachers colleges, unions, administrators, teachers, government bureaucracy), and Democrat politicians.

This letter is addressed to the Republicans who plan to sponsor a budget amendment that will increase the NH State Gasoline Tax by 8 cents, paying for a DOT budget shortfall. It is also addressed to any Republican who votes for such an amendment.

We read over the weekend that you are sponsoring an effort (without public input) to increase the gas tax by another 8 cents, after it was just raised 4 cents.

I find it hard to believe that we have no other means, no other government waste or abuse, to fill this budget shortfall.

Raising the gas tax (and please do not call it a “user fee” or “toll”), yet again, is a hit on consumers, who are seeing their healthcare, housing, energy, food, and phone costs rise every month, while the Federal Government continues to devalue our dollar. Most consumers cannot absorb a hike such as this.

Last time it was the German Professor, this time it is the Spanish and the French.

In December of 2012, (UNH Associate Spanish Language Professes Marco) Dorfsman altered the student evaluations of his colleague, French lecturer Emilie Taplin, by lowering her student evaluation scores. Court documents state that Dorfsman changed the average scores for every class Taplin taught that semester, as well as her overall average awarded by students. The tampering made it appear that her performance fell below acceptable limits for her department, court documents state.

Long story short, Dorfsman’s alterations could have prevented her contract renewal–so he was trying to get her fired.

Ted Cruz plans to announce Monday that he will run for president of the United States, accelerating his already rapid three-year rise from a tea party insurgent in Texas into a divisive political force in Washington.  Cruz will launch a presidential bid outright rather than form an exploratory committee, said senior advisers with direct knowledge of his plans, who spoke on condition of anonymity because an official announcement had not been made yet. They say he is done exploring and is now ready to become the first Republican presidential candidate.

The senator is scheduled to speak Monday at a convocation ceremony at Liberty University in Virginia, where he is expected to declare his campaign for the presidency.
