COVID19 was a test, and almost everybody failed. We saw failure from politicians (expected), to Judges (not at all surprising in NH), to public health officials (a bit surprising), to doctors and Hospitals (alarming), and of course “The Media” (do they know how to do anything else?).
Politicians have one job to do. Protect their constituents based on the precepts of their State Constitutions. Few made the grade, and most did the polar opposite. Instead of protecting natural rights, they took them behind the prison laundry every day and introduced them to “little” Bubba.
The appropriate response 246 years ago would have been to roll a cannon up the governor’s door or simply start an armed rebellion. Tar and feathers might have been generously deployed. These days the appearance of order and civility means abandoning our rights to Bubba’s will while we work through the process. Writing letters, emails, phone calls, internet pamphleteering, protests, and ultimately legislative remedy.
And we can’t just roll a cannon up to Sissy Sununu’s house even as political theater. “Her” bowels moved at the mention of a legally armed citizen stepping on his lawn while exercising the right to free speech. A right he tried to regulate out of existence as if he were no different than the average Democrat.
At the time, there was no difference.
This pro-gun™ governor even canceled his outdoor inauguration over concerns about armed protesters.
Chris Sununu failed the test, and while he dialed it back a bit he’s still failing, by not making it widely known that much of what he was told to say was a lie and what he did would never work as advertised.
Not the least of which was that the COVID19 vaccines were safe and effective.
Admitting you were misled into denying people their rights then being part of the solution is better than all the other choices. And he could make that statement without saying a word. All he has to do is tell his “Republican” sycophants in the State Senate to get these bills to his desk so he can sign them.
And they are on the way to the State Senate.
Judy Aron gave us the good news this morning.
“… HB1003 which would prevent health care providers from refusing to treat patients based on vaccination status.
We also passed HB1099 which prohibits the Dept. of Health and Human Services from requiring vaccine passports in order to receive services and HB1466 which allows for prescription drugs to be sold for off-label purposes.”
And we need them, as well as the others in the pipeline. We know this because ‘They” failed the test. The governor, the AG, the court, the Department of health, all the way down to numerous local authorities.
Failed.
Public health is not a right. It is a privilege. A benefit of modern western society that is, more often than not, is compromised by people who seek elected and appointed office. And they need to be held accountable or restrained however possible because two things are clear.
Their oath of office means nothing, and the courts cant find a right protected by the Constitution they won’t willfully abrogate.
It has to be written out in clearer language despite the increased likelihood of that being bastardized for the benefit of the latest liberty-neutering fad.
Our thanks to the Republican majority House for moving these and bills like them forward.
