New Hampshire’s Electile Dysfunction (ED)

For years New Hampshire Democrats have argued that refusing to let out-of-state college students vote in New Hampshire denies them their right to vote. That is a lie, but it reveals an essential truth. They are subverting your rights.

As Ed Naile reminds us here,

States give licenses to citizens of their state. These two girls are both lawful residents of their home states, California and Arkansas. And have every right to vote there.

Unless progressive federal judge LaPlante offers NH citizens the right to vote in California and Arkansas – we have a problem. A 14th Amendment, equal rights problem.

Neither the New Hampshire legislature, our Governor, any judge, state or Federal, nor any body charged with the interpretation of election law can give us the right to live in New Hampshire and vote in another state.

These students, many paying out-of-state-tuition (because they fail to meet college residency guidelines for the discount), must vote in New Hampshire or (we are told) this is vote suppression.

But they can always vote in the state that issued the driver’s license in their pocket, wallet, pocketbook, or purse (in person or absentee). Their vote is not, nor has it, or will it ever be suppressed by any legislation passed in New Hampshire.

New Hampshire election law, its interpretation, or the narrative around it not only denies you the same voting rights as out-of-staters, but it is also incapable of creating parity to make you equal.

Those votes change the outcome of elections that affect your rights and property while denying the right to do the same.

In other words, their voting rights “laws” give out-of-state voters more rights than you have as an actual resident domiciled in New Hampshire.

All this talk about voting rights and vote suppression is about giving someone who does not live here the right to suppress your vote by erasing it with theirs.
