Today, funding for the Highway Trust Fund comes from the federal gas tax. The federal gas tax is 18.4 cents per gallon and 24.4 cents per gallon for diesel. Leftists do not think this is enough to fund their vision.
Socialist states, like California, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado are already contemplating this so-called “alternative.” New Hampshire has discussed it repeatedly over the years. Here’s the game… and it is a game.
The administration is trying to figure out how to pay for its $1 trillion infrastructure plan. The plan calls for $160 billion for the transportation department. Got that? 16% of the infrastructure money goes to transportation. But that doesn’t mean transportation won’t bear a disproportionate tax burden. What are we going to do, stop trucking food to the cities? Are we going to quit wearing clothes?
Here’s how Buttigieg explains his take on the gas tax:
“I think all options need to be on the table. As you know, the gas tax has not been increased since 1993, and it has never been pegged to inflation, and it’s one of the reasons why the current state of Highway Trust Fund is that there’s more going out than coming in …
In the long term, we need to bear in mind also that as vehicles become more efficient and as we pursue electrification, sooner or later, there will be questions about whether the gas tax can be effective at all.”
Electrification of all vehicles is nonsense
Forget about the electrification nonsense. The government is working to force us all to electric vehicles. It is not increasing electrical generation capacity. We already use nearly 100% of what we can produce. Where is the additional power going to come from to power all the electric cars?
We are not building new generation capacity. There are rolling blackouts and brownouts in some areas. Instead, the transportation nominee wants to consider taxing Americans on the number of miles they drive. Here’s how Buttigieg rationalizes increasing taxation on everything that moves:
“A lot has been suggested recently about the idea of vehicle-miles-traveled-based, so if we’re committed to the idea of user-pays, then part of how you might do that would be based on vehicle miles traveled …
But that raises, of course, concerns about privacy and there remains some technological questions too. These are examples of some of the things that could be part of the solution, but I know that’s going to have to be a conversation, not only in the administration, but with Congress too.”
The Biden administration will move forward with a version of increasing taxation of your right to move. They see taxation based on the number of miles driven on any given day as the answer. Here’s the thing, rural America will be disproportionately impacted.
Rural America will be disproportionately impacted.
Think about where you live. The further outside of metro areas you live the higher your taxes will be. It does not matter to Buttigieg how the distance is covered. It does not matter why travel is required. He does not care whether there are alternatives or if they are economically viable. Many people travel 20 to 30 miles one way to work. Can you take a bus to where you are going?
How many malls are in your neighborhood? What kind of travel is associated with grocery shopping? Want to carry those bags on the bus? Farmers and those who live even further out well, they are screwed. What if you live a few hours from a metropolitan area? You will be punished because you don’t live in the inner cities.
This plan is designed to benefit city dwellers and punish non-Biden areas. It will further concentrate population. Think about that. Biden won 16% -17% of American counties in the election. Guess who he’s now planning to punish? That’s right everyone who did not vote for him… Come on man… This is male bovine excrement.
This is a prime example of why rural folks feel forgotten about. This tosses cities like Boston and New York and Chicago and LA a bone. It’s always about what’s best for those who live in the cities. Who gives a crap about those who grow and transport your food?
Then there’s the political payback… always good for economic decision making
Who cares about the little people who do the dirty work no one else is willing to do. It’s about those who work in fancy offices in the big cities. Screw the loggers and miners who work in dangerous conditions. This is biting the hand that provides heating options, and the food for the very people who despise them.
Come on man… unity? Who is bullish!tting who? This is: Let’s screw over the 86% – 87% of the counties in the United States who didn’t vote for Joe. Sometimes we all have to take one for the team? The Biden Team? Yeah… well maybe not. We’ll see.
New Hampshire; you voted for Pappas, Kuster, Hassan, and Shaheen. BOHICA… Bend over, here it comes again. Don’t forget you asked for it.
