In mid-November, I related a conversation I overheard where someone said that Republicans thought the virus wasn’t real. Fake news. I explained that this was not true. They believe that the virus is real; it’s the political response “as a preventative” that is fake.

[E]veryone I know accepts that this Flu exists, and it is a mortal threat, but not the threat advertised to a majority of Americans. It is also not the biggest threat. The political response is a bigger threat to America and Americans than SARS CoV2.
The propaganda poster for the COVID-ERA features brave frontline workers wearing masks, hypodermic’s and test kits in hand. Behind them are the obedient people, all masked, lining up to get vaccinated.
I object.
I object not to the hard work of doctors and nurses. I do not even object to your right to believe that masks slow the spread. You can wear a diaper on your head if you think that helps. But it doesn’t. None of it does. And while you might find and share some study suggesting they could or might, the mountains of evidence that suggests otherwise disproves the theory.
Rather than reassess the notion based on what you can see with your own eyes, the politicians lying to you encourage you to call us anti-maskers.
Here is but one example of the hundreds just like it why they are wrong.
Masks stop nothing but people exercising their free will. In fact, there is no evidence to correlate the political response to a reduction in cases. That’s the gold standard, yes? Positive cases.
Your politicians have failed miserably.
Locking people up together and forcing them to wear masks, anecdotally, correlates more with a rise in cases. Forcing them to lay-off employees and close businesses correlates to a rise in cases. And the evidence increasingly suggests a significant loss of life and quality of life due to the political response, mostly to people who have nothing to fear from this virus.
[I]n our analysis, full lockdowns and wide-spread COVID-19 testing were not associated with reductions in the number of critical cases or overall mortality.
Overall mortality? What does that mean? It’s not fake news. Dozens of studies estimate that millions of lives will or have been lost because of the politics.
Many millions more will suffer a reduced quality of life, well above the threat presented by COVID19 because of the political response.
COVID19 is real. It poses a threat to people with multiple comorbidities, high glucose levels, most of who are 70 or older. Distancing and lockdowns, and curfews, and masks do not stop it from killing them. Herd immunity does not protect them. They are at high risk from COVID19.
You and I are at high-risk from the political response.
There is only one of these things over which we have any control.
Note: Sweden did have a late autumn spike in cases just like the rest of us; similar mortality demographics except that they didn’t kill anyone (to the best of my knowledge) with heavy-handed public-health policy.
