NBA, MLB Ratings Crash After Protest-Filled Debuts

People want to watch sports and not be preached at for the length of an entire game (or in the case of NASCAR, for 300, 400 miles). With the NFL sending signals that they are going to also be Social Justice Preachers, I’m betting that will add to the decreased revenues as well.

I am not surprised in the least.

They’re betting that a majority of their fan base is all in for this new sect of secular humanist religion – I’m betting we’re not:

As the NBA and MLB return from their coronavirus-imposed hiatus, it appears TV viewers are not interested in what the increasingly woke leagues have to offer. With both baseball and basketball draped in all sorts of Black Lives Matter and social justice symbolism for their opening games, a substantially smaller number of fans tuned-in to the rest of the week’s games. According to Outkick.com, neither league did well. As for the opening games, Outkick reported that the return of the NBA on TNT saw the following numbers:

Lakers-Clippers: 3.4 million
Pelicans-Jazz: 2.1 million

ESPN’s MLB return numbers were also underwhelming:

Yankees-Nationals: 4.0 million
Dodgers-Giants: 2.8 million

Outkick’s Ryan Glasspiegel added more ratings numbers on Twitter. “To be fair since I compared MLB vs NBA return night 1, here is night 2,” (July 24) he wrote, adding:

MLB (last Friday, ESPN)
Mets-Braves (4p) – 922K
Brewers-Cubs(7p) – 1.0M
Angels-As (10p) – 797K

NBA (last night ESPN) (July 31)
Celtics-Bucks (6:30p) – 1.3M
Mavs-Rockets (9p)- 1.7M

…The virus didn’t stop people from watching Tom Brady golf with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson back in May. Indeed, the charity golf match earned record TV ratings in May. Dubbed “The Match II,” the game featuring Tom Brady, Phil Mickelson, Peyton Manning, and Tiger Woods peaked at an amazing 6.3 million viewers and raised more than $20 million for charity.

I’m now pretty much done with professional sports except for the UFC’s MMA matches. They know their audience wants to see mixed martial artists in action. Period. Nothing else for either free eyeballs or pay-per-view rates. Concentrate on the product and don’t participate in the fad of the day (Black Lives Mafia) that is now in Overreach mode.

The NBA is now back on TV and twice now I’ve had to watch the tail ends of their games before the WMUR news comes on (at least they haven’t politicized the weather yet but I have to be careful in not giving them any ideas…). Sorry but with the political statements (instead of the traditional names) on their jerseys and politicizing their court surface like a billboard near a strip club, I’ve had enough.

I can’t fast forward fast enough.

Laura Ingraham has a book out called “Shut up and Sing” where the premise is that she didn’t want to pay to go to a concert to hear someone sing or play but then get treated to some lame (most often, Leftist) singer or band or actors in a play deciding their expertise extends to kvetching about my morals and my politics in being such a horrible person.

I hope the ratings continue to collapse. Send the virtue-signaling owners and players a message. The question is, are they willing to listen, or are they willing enablers of those bullying their sports? I know I’m no longer in their demographic and they are making LARGE bets that their desired ones are all in on this stuff
