In Bob Clegg’s mailers, he claims that he will “Oppose Planned Parenthood Funding” and he will “Stop government funding of Planned-Parenthood.”
He has Facebook ads where he proclaims himself as “Pro-Life,” including an ad featuring former state senator Kevin Avard saying “Bob Clegg is Pro-Life and holds the values that we share…”
However, on the Citizens Count survey question where it asks, “Do you support state contracts with Planned Parenthood”, Clegg answer is:
So, Clegg will vote for a contract funding Planned Parenthood if PP “meets the requirements and has the ability to perform.” This directly contradicts Clegg’s claim that he will oppose Planned Parenthood funding.
Bob Clegg is running in the Republican primary for Executive Council District 5 against Dave Wheeler and Wheeler is committed to voting against all contracts for Planned Parenthood. Wheeler backs that up with his history for having never voted for a PP contract in all the years he served on the Executive Council. In 2011 and 2015, Wheeler’s vote helped to kill PP contracts.
From Leaven for the Loaf:
With two of his colleagues, [Dave Wheeler] denied PP a Title X family-planning contract in 2011. (Ten other Title X contracts were approved that day, all with contractors who didn’t double as abortion providers.) It wasn’t Dave Wheeler’s first pro-life vote, but it was a particularly emphatic one.
A Dave Wheeler quote from Leaven for the Loaf:
We’re starting to get these nice notes from Planned Parenthood here. They’ve got flowers on them, and a sticker, and they say “Don’t defund women’s services.” You know, it’s kind of funny that they’re embarassed to say “Don’t defund abortion.” They won’t say it, but that’s what our issue is. We’re not against cancer screenings and the other things. Just stop doing the evil, and maybe we could support the good you do.
Leaven for the Loaf recognized Dave Wheeler’s dedication to defunding Planned Parenthood:
Executive Councilor Dave Wheeler, for consistently upholding the idea that taxpayers shouldn’t be subsidizing any abortion provider.
Pro-life organization Cornerstone Action has endorsed Dave Wheeler for Executive Council. If you care about protecting life and defunding Planned Parenthood, vote for Dave Wheeler for Executive Council in the Repubican primary on September 8.
