Data Point – which is flying off the shelves faster: toilet paper or ammo?

Where to put all that milk

Yeah, the “Featured Image” as we call them is the spoiler, sorta. I dunno, to be perfectly honest. I’ve gone to our local Shaw’s, Lowe’s, Walmart, and Market Basket.  Really, do people actually think they can eat all that toilet paper?

And then everything else with any kind of shelf life didn’t last long on the store shelves.  In getting a few little NORMAL SHOPPING things the last couple of days, all I can do is chuckle when I see what has been bought up (seriously, yesterday at Walmart there was NO MILK in the fridge case) and what hasn’t (and plenty of tuna fish in cans at Shaw’s). No bread now, most meats are gone (except for the more expensive cuts of meat).

But now guns and ammo are the next thing of value being snapped up like crazy and a lot of it is being driven by FIRST TIME BUYERS (more on that in a moment). Reports are coming in from everywhere – from California to NY to Texas to Michigan. And everyone in between.  Lots of people are finding out that their politicians have outright lied to themgetting a gun is not as easy as buying a pen or a book or whatever other object was used to demonize firearms. And the people are ticked – they want to protect themselves and theirs NOW and they’re finding out they can’t.  There are, in many Progressive / Democrat dominated States, many hoops and builtin delays to obtaining the firearm and ammo in order to exercise your Second Amendment Right to self-defense.

And ammo!  Ammo IS flying off the shelves just like a few years ago during the Obama “gun salesman of the eight years” when many (including your lowly scribe) thought that Govt was going to cut off the supply altogether. Certainly, the Democrat Prez Wannabees decided that they wanted to replace Obama in that role and sales started up once again in response.

And now coronavirus, and the fear that with food being in short supply, has thinking people that civil order may breakdown.  So ammo sales are soaring.

Ammo.com has a quick chart of their sales showing how much of a jump ammo sales by caliber they have seen. Pretty impressive upticks:

Caliber Breakdown of Ammo Sale Increases Due to Coronavirus
When it comes to the calibers of ammunition Americans are buying, our data shows the following increases:

40 Cal (S&W) ammo: 645% (this may be in part due to the partiality of Asian-Americans to the round and their increased concerns for security during the coronavirus outbreak)
223 ammo: 563%
7.62×39 ammo: 386%
12 gauge shotgun shells: 368%
9mm ammo: 308%
5.56×45 ammo: 296%
45 Auto (ACP) ammo: 272%
22 Long Rifle (LR) ammo: 263%
380 ACP (Auto) ammo: 212%
308 Winchester ammo: 106%

The post has another chart on State level buying from them as well…NH ranks only 31st on that list. Guess many of us have sufficient rounds for more (although the standard answer is “how much is enough” is always “MORE!”).

And how many ‘fridges does does that lady have to store all that milk – was SHE at my local Walmart?
