I frequent a small number of energy sites and blogs, some of whose writers or editors have allowed Trump Derangement Syndrome to filter their content. Put another way; they get a lot wrong. Like the unavoidable 2018 recession. Sure. And hey, we have another oil price spike.

Except that we’re not. A few dollars a barrel is not a spike. But like most forms of media, any breeze that might blow against the face of Mr. Trump’s (unexplainable!) economic success is the sign of a coming storm. Except it’s not.
Certainly not with oil or gas prices. Why? A commitment to energy security as more than just an election talking point or a diplomatic weight on someone else’s side of the scale. We don’t need blood for oil wars (real or imagined). We’re optimizing our capacity.
The other oil and gas producers are dismayed. Nothing seems to create a real spike.
We’ve itemized a few examples of what would have in the past but doesn’t anymore. Downed Drones and seized tankers barely moved the needle: typical holiday and seasonal changes – nothing. Iran takes out 20% of the global Capacity in Saudi Arabia, meh!
Did you know that OPEC cut production by over two million barrels a day in early December? It’s true. The oil glut is keeping prices stable. It’s not changing the price all that much, and that annoys the left-leaning energy “journalists.”
A spike in gas prices or heating-prices will have an immediate drag on the economy. So, not only do they want us dependent on foreign nations, many of who hate us, they are so petty that diminishing or vanishing the disposable income of middle and low-income families is a price they are willing to make them pay if it makes Trump look bad.
There are plenty of words to describe that, feel free to choose your own, but please remember to self- cen**r in c*mmen*s.
