The Left has been doing this for a long time:
- Transsexual has become trans male or trans woman
- Gay no longer means “happy! happy!”
- Transsexual has transmogrified into trans male or trans woman
- Abortion bad, “Pro-choice” / “Reproductive Justice” / “Body autonomy” is the new hotness
- Libertarian has become “selfish!”
- Conservative has become “evil” / “hateful”
So forth and so on. I’ve said for years that our language is being Frequent commenter Allen spurred this thought post with this: (emphasis mine):
no one will mention the shooter. it’s not “shooter violence” it’s “gun violence”. it’ll be “the gun the gun the gun” and anyone that mentions the shooter at all will be called a racist and dismissed.
nothing gets in the way of the narrative. the legislation is being cut-and-pasted together as we speak.
And it should be “shooter” and not “gun“. And it should be “crime” and not “violence“. “Shooter Crime” – a better description. One that, I think, better describes how Conservatives think. Someone is responsible – not a metal / plastic thing. After all, crime IS violence in one form or another – and crime committed by a person can be punished (lots of “violence” often goes ignored like a school yard fight that is taken offsite). The concern is not an ideology, as the Left would want everyone to think, but back to a person
The Left uses this tactic all the time in its efforts to change the culture (and then change the politics). Take a moment and think of how the Left does its arguing and demanding on the issues. Think of the language they use. Think of how they use the language to change the debate (for the worse): Justice (their way), Equality (their way), Marginalized (emoting their way), Fairness (their way)….it never stops. hile I wish that our common language was left alone, the Left won’t.
They can’t. They stop, they lose.
Time for us to do the same. It should be Shooter Crime and not gun violence. I plan on using that going forward.
