And Veep Pence throws it back at him.
Obama’s Attorney General Eric Holder on Wednesday appeared on MSNBC, where host Ari Melber asked him: “There is a lot of talk about America being a leader as a democracy, quote unquote, in the 1800s when women and African-Americans couldn’t vote. What kind of democracy is that?”
Holder lit into America with a vicious question for Trump supporters. “Exactly when did you think America was great?”. “It certainly wasn’t when people were enslaved. It certainly wasn’t when women didn’t have the right to vote. It certainly wasn’t when the LGBT community was denied the rights to which it was entitled,” Holder said…
CHASER: Mike Pence’s response
— Vice President Mike Pence (@VP) March 28, 2019
Progressives/Socialists/Democrats never can see the underlying goodness of America – only its faults. They bring them up but never state that one by one, wrongs are righted. Holder doesn’t mention that 600,000 Americans died on righting the wrongs of slavery, for instance. What nation has been perfect from the get go? And Holder never addresses that the state of man has been slavery for most of mankind’s history – in all locations and all peoples/nations. Yet, we paid a terrible price to rectify that wrong.
The only good that Progressives ever see is their future vision of a Utopia that can never be – they ignore actual human nature that refuses to be enslaved – for that is what their vision requires: human slaves that must bend their knees and minds to someone else’s demands. They cannot see the goodness and exceptionalism that is America of which Pence shows only four. How can these not be “greatness”?
Yet, all they can see is UGLY. This is the nature of Progressivism – conformance above all in which the good IS the enemy of perfection.
What Holder said is a gaffe – the accidental telling of a truth. Sure, he has tried to backtrack that line but we all know that’s just emergency PR / crisis management. Remember, he also said:
Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial, we have always been, and we, I believe, continue to be, in too many ways, a nation of cowards
I’m not even sure that rises to the level of Hillary calling us deplorables? We are liars in his eyes, quite willing “self-deluders” that refuse to see ourselves through his eyes. Frankly, he is one of the sowers of division in the United States – a secondary horn to the President that most destroyed race relations here in the US with their tactics of identity politics and pitching one race against another that continues today (see Carlos Cardonas of Laconia NH on his version of Latino identity politics). These self-appointed grandees show the worst of Progressivism – unless you agree with them, you are scum. Both of them call the rest of us, either covertly or overtly and living in a State that is 93% white and only 2% Hispanic, racists. That’s one of the most powerful slurs one can use against another (unless, of course, you’re like me and go “I’ve been called far worse by far better people than you”).
It has but one reason – to silence you. You’re not supposed to answer back to that as they are completely convinced they ARE morally superior to everyone that isn’t them.
The only proper response, because they won’t listen to facts or view things from someone else’s viewpoint, is to simply say “Up Yours”, laugh, turn around, and keep on laughing. They will double done on their racial discord – giving up more chances to mock them once again.
UPDATE: This from Steven Greene probably sums up the feelings on the right who may agree with Holder but just quite the way Holder believes:
I can think of an eight-year span when I started having some doubts, based solely on upper-level management in the Executive branch.
