Too Much Ink and So Little To Write About

“If either the right wing or the left wing gained control of the country, it would probably fly around in circles.” —Pat Paulsen

I seriously cannot fathom how much press has been given to the Notion of Stephen Colbert running for President.  And he will likely end up garnering votes, even if such a notion is satirical. Mickey Mouse and other such ficticious characters have traditionally done so.

But we must not forget the Stupid People.  Those who vote for a candidate because the candidate is physically appealing or has nice teeth or speaks well or is the “chosen one” It is those same people that think “Plastic Jesus is an actual hymn.

Well, I don’t care if it rains or freezes,
Long as I have my plastic Jesus
Riding on the dashboard of my car
Through all trials and tribulations,
We will travel every nation,
With my plastic Jesus I’ll go far.

Winston Churchill once quipped, “The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.” Is that to say people are dumb? Well some certainly are….others are simply glazed over…as if reading the assembly instructions to a new gas grill.

So what of it? And who am I to make such value judgments?  Well, I vote…I read and I write. But, then again Edith Sitwell thinks some now reading and writing are better-employed keeping rabbits.

What I do know is this. We have to pick a President (sort of) by popular vote. And that president has to be somebody who can provide sound leadership, judgment and vision to get this Republic out of the ditch and back to a place where all Americans can prosper. And not just prosperity for the select few who lie and tell us they care about people, but everybody.

Stephen Colbert announces the formation of an exploratory committee for a run for President. I get it. But what is worse? his announcement? or the Washington Post publishing a story where the reader might actually think this is a serious notion? I fail to see how this sells Newspapers.

Pat Paulsen ran for President…I loved Pat Paulsen…Stephen Colbert is no Pat Paulsen…He is a Schmuck.
