Not An Orignal Thought Between Them

by Steve MacDonald

The progressives are looking for a name for Kathy Sullivan’s 501(4)c secret-donor non-profit.  Well how about "Amercian Bridge?"

Why name it that?  Because it would fit nicely with a national group ‘American Bridge" set up by David Brock, a prominent democrat political operative, who runs an array of groups under the left wing "Media Matters," a non-profit that does not need to disclose it’s donors either–and from whom he will tap resources to fund his new group meant to do battle with similar groups on the right.

From the New York Times

Mr. Brock said in an interview that he planned to formally file papers with the Federal Election Commission on Tuesday to set up American Bridge as what is known as an independent-expenditure-only political action committee, meaning it will be able to take in contributions of unlimited size from individuals and corporations but must regularly disclose its donors.

Would it be far fetched to suggest a connection?  If we look around will we find democrats setting up 501(4)c groups in states all across the country?  Should we expect that some of their undisclosed donors will be the usual suspects, who shift money back and forth between states the way Ray Buckley shuffles money between in-state committees here in New Hampshire?  Should we even care?

I don’t care.  As long as it’s legal I am unconcerned with what or how the democrats shuffle their dollars about.  Opening a 501(4) c is simply the same old whore in a new dress, but the timing is what amuses me.  So my point is that Sullivan’s great idea can probably be traced to an email or a conference call from the mother-ship where many of those "people she’s been talking to" about her 501(4) c hang out and make decisions for the national party, which seems to have resulted in more than one of these popping up for the same stated purpose.

So does being a central planner mean never having to admit you have no original thoughts of your own? (tweak!)

I think you should call it New Hampshire Bridge.  At least then there would be some honesty about the source of the idea.  Besides it has a leading sense of bi-partisan outreach that democrats claim but never exhibit.  So does that make it a liberal bridge to nowhere?
