Started off as an alert at 10:30 that The One was going to interrupt The Donald’s decision on The Apprentice – many thinking this was a political tactic.  Switched over to Fox – who knew Geraldo was going to be Da Guy to announce it?

What I know so far – OBL killed a week ago in a mansion in Pakistan by a US bomb.  It has been confirmed by DNA analysis – the US has sole possession of the body.

Thanks to the men and women of our military and intelligence to find him, verify it was him, and then to carry out the mission.  Can you imagine HOW MANY people had to keep their mouths shut during this past week?  May those that have given much and those giving all to have this news rest easy – Mission Accomplished!

I will also say this: thank you to both President Bush and President Obama for keeping up the pressure and the hunt.

GrokTV – Herman Cain at the Granite Oath PAC Presidential series

Once again, GraniteGrok was invited to Ovide Lamontagne’s Granite Oath PAC Presidential Series of speakers.  Given McCain-Feingold, that’s the term he and the folks that have so far spoken.  Me?  It puts a smile on my face to say "Prez Wannabees".  Either way, declared or not, the vast majority of the folks crisscrossing the nation between Iowa, New Hampsha, and South Carolina, will make a run for the Republican nomination to "marginalize" Obama as President.

One of them, for sure, is Herman Cain, the night’s special speaker.  I find him to be likeable, warm, and open – and takes no small amount of pleasure in cracking a smile or a joke.  While not the most well known of the candidates, I think the phrase "Once you’ve heard him, you won’t forget him" rings true.  Perhaps a bit more true in a formal Event setting than in this "house event" style gathering, but he has a way to pull you into the speech in a "Preacher" style that while brims over with charisma is not short on facts either.

Question: how does a ticket made up of Herman and Michele Bachmann strike you?

The Job of Creating New Jobs – How We Can Get Granite Staters Back to Work

When I was campaigning for Congress last year, I told voters that helping get people back to work was very important to me.  I meant it then, and I still mean it now.  That’s why I am conducting a major jobs initiative this week, bringing together job creators (the small business owners that are the backbone of New Hampshire’s economy), people looking for work, and your Representative in Congress.  Together, we’re discussing ways Washington can help and what it should do (or in some cases not do) to help businesses grow and create new jobs.

You see, in the free enterprise system, things work best when the private sector creates jobs and government plays a supporting, encouraging role.  Government can assist the private sector by protecting it from over taxation, over regulation and limiting its intrusion into our daily lives.  Government can create an economic environment for businesses to expand with confidence by handling our nation’s finances responsibly, which in turn creates the predictability that companies need to plan for tomorrow.  That is the best recipe for job creation.

You know, this would be more fun if he could actually articulate an argument.

As regular readers know, I am wont to go back into recent history to "repurpose" stuff I have created on email and Facebook threads. I toyed with the title of the post:

  • Tying up a Lefty in knots?
  • Vocabulary matters in debates?
  • A mighty run, jump….splat?
  • Gay marriage advocate left speechless

There were others, but failed to write them down, so they’re gone for good (and better than the above, too).  However, even though the the topic is on gay marriage, it really is illustrative when folks who have oft been accused to defend their values and philosophy (er, that would be we Groksters) decide to confront a Liberal and force him to defend his (a bit comedic value to boot).  In essence, we primarily wanted the debate (the issue being somewhat secondary). And!

Blithering ensues.

Back Story: back when Jack Kimball won the race for NH GOP Chair, RLCNH Chair Andrew Hemingway (On FaceBook) made an announcement to that effect that was picked up by the NY Times:

Andrew Hemingway, chairman of the Republican Liberty Caucus of New Hampshire, said Mr. Kimball’s win was evidence that the Tea Party and similar groups were pushing the state’s Republican Party to the right. Mr. Hemingway’s group helped a large number of conservatives, including many with Tea Party support, win election to the state legislature in the fall. 

Keith David Halloran (gay marriage supporter) then decided to take that snippet by Andrew Hemingway and twist it, hectoring Andrew because what Halloran wanted was an answer to suit himself (reality and plain hearing of plain speaking seemingly not established quality for  Mr. Halloran).  Given that Andrew is a ‘Grok friend, we fulfilled our mantra of "…flying to the aid of rock ribbed Conservatives everywhere!". 

Now, the question and what should have been the definitive answer that should have ended the question.

Keith- We do not write legislation or really work in the legislative realm. We are so busy working to get good people elected and we trust they will do the right thing once there. It will be up to the state reps to take up that battle.
