Tom "counseled" our Republican NH State Senators. Me? Merely "counsel"? Pshaw! Naw, I turned up the heat a bit in doing what Tom requested: a reply!
Indeed.
This malarky about RGGI being a free market entity is merely that – malarky. If it was, the free market would have created it, on its own, a long time ago. By definition, if Government has to create "a free marketplace" and then strictly regulate it on an on-going basis and force participation, it is neither "free" nor a "marketplace" – it is just another governmental program taking money from someone’s pocket and placing it into other pockets.
I will also point out that, once again, New Hampshire politicians, with this program, have lied to their constituents. By using some of the proceeds of the last auction (approx $2 million, if I remember right?) and putting into the General Fund, it showed that the State only wishes to redirect other peoples money and once again, failing to keep promises made. Again, you say? Think Highway Fund and how that has been raided over and over for purposes other than the original intention; it just took a far shorter time with RGGI to do it again. Nice going!
And all this before even getting into the geophysical analysis of carbon / greenhouse gases / temperature cycle. One and one-half degree Celsius change over the last 120 years is a mere blip on long term geologic time frames – the earth has been far warmer in the past without any input from human activity. Given that China now output approximately 1/3 MORE carbon than the US (and building 7 new coal fired electrical plants per week), NH’s participation in RGGI would be akin to spitting onto a 5 alarm fire and slapping oneself on the back for having "done good" (when set on a global scale). Also, as Tom rightly points out, other "fire departments" are deciding to not show up.
Thus, the State of NH is enforcing these costs only on NH citizens for what is a global situation (IF one believes there is such a situation). However, I am quite sure that the Chinese Communist Central Committee is beside themselves with glee, as they sign contracts to sell us their green energy windmills, with money borrowed from them, that when placed into usage, will create much more expensive electricity that our manufactures will have to buy, who may well find their NH and American products too expensive to compete against Chinese ones, because of higher taxes (implicit or explicit) and energy costs.
Kindest Regards,
